HAMPTON - Everett I. Fleming, 88, of Hampton, died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at the Sioux Rapids Care Center in Sioux Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, with the Rev. Wilbert Trusheim officiating. Burial will be in the Morgan Center Cemetery , rural Dows.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

GREGORY J. HINDERMAN

MASON CITY - Gregory J. Hinderman, 43, of 84 Yorktown Pike, died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) in an automobile accident east of Garner.

ST. ANSGAR - Florence Ann Farrell, 87, of St. Ansgar, died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) at the Osage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Osage.

BRITT - Ruth Kemp, 97, of Britt, died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

JOYCE VAN TASSEL HUNT

MASON CITY - Joyce Van Tassel Hunt, 74, of Mason City, died Tuesday (March 20, 2001) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Mason City.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the St. John's Episcopal Church kitchen fund or Hospice of North Iowa.

HERMA GLADYS ROSETH

AMERICUS, Ga. - Mrs. Herma Gladys (Halverson) Roseth, 82, of Americus, Ga., died Saturday (March 17, 2001) at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.

Graveside services for Mrs. Roseth will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery , rural Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating.

Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.

Mrs. Roseth was born July 24, 1918, a daughter of the late Garfield Theodore Halverson and Millie Wicks Halverson. She was a homemaker.

Mrs.Roseth was secretary/treasurer at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Plains, Ga., for 20 years. She was a gift shop manager at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, and was a charter member of the Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Debbie Roseth of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Douglas and Jayme Roseth of Americus, Ga.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, James and Bev Roseth, of Plainfield, Ill.; and two grandchildren, Brandon Roseth of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Douglas Roseth of Americus, Ga.; two brothers, Garfield "Gus" Halverson and his wife, Shirley, of Kanawha, and Merlin Halverson and his wife, Marcella, of Kanawha; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Halverson, of Belmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Brandon D. Roseth on May 30, 1999; two brothers, Melvin and Ervin Halverson, and a sister-in-law, Esther Halverson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Home, P.O. Box 100, Hahria, GA 31632.

JOHN G. 'BUSTER' BACHMAN

BELMOND - John G. "Buster" Bachman, 86, of Belmond, died Sunday (March 18, 2001) at Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with Pastor Curtis DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell, with military rites conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard.

John Bachman, the son of John and Anna Hansen Bachman was born in Avery Township near Klemme. He grew up in the Goodell, Klemme, and Meservey areas where, as a young man, he worked for area farmers. He later moved to Des Moines where he worked in defense.

In 1941, John was united in marriage with Evelyn Bosworth in Des Moines. John entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and served in the European Theater during World War II. Following his discharge in 1946, John made his home in Des Moines.

He later moved to Kanawha where he was employed as a welder. John later operated Rhodes Cafe in Klemme and another restaurant in Ventura. Following his retirement, John moved to Meservey, eventually moving to Belmond after Evelyn's death.

John loved fishing, hunting and playing cards, especially cribbage.

He was a member of the Clear Lake American Legion.

John is survived by one brother, Elmer, and his wife, Mary Lou, of Meservey; two sisters, Vera Osborn of Reno, Nev., and Madeline Hines of Las Vegas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and one sister.

NETTIE MAE CHAFFIN

HAMPTON - Nettie Mae Chaffin, 88, of Hampton, died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, with the Rev. Wilbert Trusheim officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

GERTRUDE FERN (SMIT) STADTLANDER

MESERVEY - Gertrude Fern (Smit) Stadtlander (fondly known as Gert), 73, of 93 Minnesota St., went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday (March 19, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Reformed Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial at the Meservey Cemetery will follow the services.

Visitation was held on Wednesday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Meservey.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that memorials be given to Hospice of North Iowa or Opportunity Village in Clear Lake.

Gert was born Nov. 4, 1927, near Latimer to Dick and Ettie (Janssen) Smit. She attended country schools and then stayed home to help her dad raise her younger brothers and sisters after the illness and death of her young mother.

Gert was united in marriage with Louis G. Stadtlander of Feb. 20, 1948, at the Zion Reformed Church parsonage in rural Sheffield. They made their home in Meservey. Their lives were richly blessed by six children.

Gert loved life and especially loved family gatherings. She was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Meservey, the RCW, Meservey Legion Auxiliary and other organizations in the community, including the Golden Years Club. She babysat in her home for many years and enjoyed meeting people while working with Shirley at the Chit Chat Cafe.

Her generous and loving spirit will be missed by her family and a host of friends. They include her six children, Larry (Connie), Thornton, Shirley (Marty) Proctor, Thornton, Rich (Jennifer), Meservey, Beverly, Meservey, Dean (Renae), Clear Lake and Brenda (John) Bracklein, Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Janet) Proctor, Amy Proctor, Joshua Stadtlander, Rebecca Stadtlander, Brittany Bracklein, Chelsea Bracklein, Tyler Stadtlander and Alex Stadtlander; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Proctor and Spencer Proctor; two brothers, Willard (Arlene) Smit, Iowa Falls, and Dennis (Sue) Smit, Hampton; two sisters, Mildred (George) Wenzel, Belmond, and Esther (Al) DeVries, Sheffield; and many nieces and nephews.

Gert was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis G., in 1982; her parents; and her stepmother, Bessie.
