ST. BENEDICT - Betty Penning, 69, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at her home in St. Benedict.
Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Wesley. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery
in Wesley.

MILTON P. MARTIN
PLYMOUTH -Milton P. Martin, 75, of rural Plymouth, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 670 12th St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor James Grabitske officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and also one hour prior to the service at the church Friday.
Memorials may be directed to the Milton P. Martin Memorial Fund.
Milton was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Winside, Neb., the son of Alfred F. and Clara (Reeg) Martin. The Martin family moved to Mason City in 1936 and to rural Plymouth in 1937. Milton farmed the land near Plymouth for many years.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Church Council, Plymouth Elevator Board and the Central Livestock Association.
Milton is survived by one sister, Lorraine Dirksen and her husband, Walter, of Mason City; one brother, Pastor LeRoy A. Martin and his wife, Sharon, of Port Charlotte, Fla., 10 nieces and nephews, Merle Martin, Craig Martin, Linda Culek, Philip Dirksen, Paul Dirksen, Joel Dirksen, John Dirksen, Peter Martin, Andrew Martin and Racheal Bates; 22 Great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nieces and nephews.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and a brother, Gilbert.

MASON CITY - Frederick W. Easley Jr., 83, of Mason City died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Mike Ronan of Temple Baptist Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

GERTRUDE HEIMER
STACYVILLE - Gertrude Heimer, 66, of Stacyville, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery , Stacyville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Gertrude was born on Aug. 26, 1934, in Taopi, Minn., to John and Rose (Wettstein) King. She married LaVerne Heimer on Sept. 20, 1955, in Adams, Minn. She lived most of her married life in Stacyville. Her greatest joy was visiting with family and friends.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by one daughter, Deb Lange, and her husband, Dan, of St. Charles, Minn.; two sons, Doug, and his wife, Jeanie, of Rock Falls, and Dave and his wife, Michele, of St. Ansgar; eight grandchildren, Jake, Justin and Cole Heimer, Travis, Brittney and Shane Lange and Jordan and Derrick Heimer; five sisters, Mary Ann Heimer of Adams, Minn., Evy Bimberg of St. Louis Park, Minn., Bernice Horn of Coon Rapids, Minn., Bernette Willenbring of Anoka, Minn., and Diane Christie of Rochester, Minn.; three brothers, Ernie King of Austin, Minn., Bud King of Clear Lake and Bill King of Rochester, Minn.; and Robin Bowers, who was her special friend and caregiver.

LOWELL D. 'PETE' PETERSEN
DURANT, Okla.- Lowell D. "Pete" Petersen, 68, formerly of Mason City and the Fort Dodge area, passed away Sunday (June 3, 2001) at his home in Durant.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Amsterdam Cemetery
in Goodell, with graveside military rites conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard.
Lowell, the son of Clarence and Inez Oleson Petersen, was born on Feb. 21, 1933, in Hollandale, Minn. He went to grade school in Hollandale and LeRoy, Minn. After moving to Iowa, he attended and graduated from CAL-Latimer High School.
Lowell served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Europe where he worked as a cook.
After the war he returned to Mason City where he worked in construction as a union carpenter.
Lowell was united in marriage to Thelma Alm in 1974 in Colorado. The couple later moved to Oklahoma in the 1980s. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting coins.
Lowell is survived by his four sisters, Darlene Huebner of Anthony, Fla., Lucille Lauden and her husband, Ole, of Thornton, Janet Roderick of Fort Dodge, and Carole Molencamp and her husband, Ron, of Des Moines; and 18 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma in 1997; and one brother.

BRUCE K. HANNA
WODEN -Bruce K. Hanna, 67, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden with the Rev. Arlen Lloyd officiating. Interment will be at Grant Township Cemetery
with a flag presentation by the Woden Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Home, Woden, and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
Bruce Kay Hanna, the son of Gilman and Anna (Schauf) Hanna, was born Jan. 23, 1934, on a farm east of Woden. He was baptized and confirmed at Grant Lutheran Church. He attended country school and Woden High School, graduating in 1951.
On April 14, 1955, he married Doryce E. Sorenson at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake. They lived in Laytonville, Md., where Bruce served his country in the Army at a Nike Missile Site outside of Washington, D.C.
In 1957 they returned to the Woden area where they farmed and raised their family. Bruce and Doryce moved from the farm to their home in Woden in 1991.
Bruce enjoyed his family, farming, traveling, woodworking, fishing and his winters in Mission, Texas, with friends.
He was a lifetime member of Grant Lutheran Church where he served on the church board. He also served on the Crystal Lake Creamery Board, Woden Elevator Board and was a member of the Woden American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Doryce, of Woden; three daughters, Lori Hanna, of Seattle, Wash., Tammy Johnson and her husband, Scott, and their two sons, Ryan and Justin, of Britt, and Lisa Swingen and her husband, Doug, and their two children, Megan and Matthew, of Woden; one sister, Betty Buns and her husband, Kenneth, of Woden; a brother-in-law, Clarence Watson, of Britt; and many nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his daughter, Tresa, May 1, 1964; his parents; and a sister, Marjorie Watson.
