School Graduate interested in Literature and Great River Hospice.
According to her wishes, the body of Mrs. Gehermann has been cremated

Sandra Kay Gehrmann, 65, of Burlington, Iowa, died at her residence with family at her side at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006.

Born March 10, 1941 in Keosauqua, Iowa, she was the daughter of Marvin Leo and Reva Elizabeth Dossett. On August 11, 1971 she married William Henry “W.H.” Gehrmann II in Davenport, Iowa.

Mrs. Gehrmann was a 1968 graduate of Drake University with an English major. She taught English in the Burlington School System for 28 years.

She was a member of Burlington Golf Club, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed painting and playing bridge.

Survivors include her husband, William Henry “William H.” Gehrmann II of Burlington; one son, Brett (Diana) Mayhugh of Burlington; five stepchildren, William (Terri) Gehrmann III of Nacogdoches, Texas, Marie (Robert) Barnett of Conroe, Texas, Martha Gehrmann and James Gehrmann both of Houston, Texas and Kristin (Bryan) DaHarb of West Linn, Oregon; 15 grandchildren, Sarah and Tarah Mayhugh of Mediapolis, Iowa, Scott and Lance Underwood of Burlington, Stephen Allen of Iraq and Stephanie Allen of Burlington, William H. Gehrmann IV and Courtney Gehrmann of Nacogdoches, Texas, Cole and Merrill Rogers and Robert Phillip Barnett all of Conroe, Texas and Alexi, Jake and Max and Luke DaHarb all of West Linn, Oregon; great grandson, Brayden Underwood of Burlington; brother, Larry (Cheryl) Dossett of Wapello, Iowa; two sisters, Sue (Ronald) Pitzer of New Braunfels, Texas and Dee (Nick) Quinn of Kingwood, Texas; brother-in-law, Carl (Mary Lee) Gehrmann of Sun City, Arizona; and nieces and nephews, Charles, Conrad, Phillip and Frederick Gehrmann, Trent Dossett, Trisha Welch, Darcy Knouse, Kenny Harryman, Mark, Carie and Todd Quinn.
Her parents, grandson, Matthew Tyler Mayhugh, and nephew, Trace W. Dossett, preceded her in death.

Daniel Gerdes
January 8, 1925 - March 11, 2007

Memorials have been established for Prairie Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in
Mediapolis, Iowa and the South East Iowa Area Parkinson support Group.

Mr. Daniel Gerdes, 82, of Burlington, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.

Born January 8, 1925, in Colesburg, Iowa. As an infant he and his twin brother were adopted by Arthur and Florence Shively Gerdes. On July 23, 1950, in Burlington at Oak Street Baptist Church he married Dorothy Oetken.

Mr. Gerdes joined the Burlington Police Department in January 1952 and retired as Lieutenant in April 1980. He then worked 10 years in maintence for Mc Donald’s restaurants. He served in the Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946 as a Water Tender 3rd Class.

He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, Iowa State police Association Black Hawk Local unit # 3, and Chiefs of Police Association. He volunteered at Klein Care Center for 10 years singing in the quartet.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Elaine M. (Gordon) Carncross of West Chicago, IL; three sons, LaVerne A. (Ruby) Gerdes, Wayne E. Gerdes, and Steven D. (LoReah) Gerdes, all of Burlington; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two nieces; and a number of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother David Gerdes and one infant son Kenneth.

Everett Gerling
June 26, 1912 ~ November 12, 2005

-Visitation: Monday, November 14, 2005 12:00 PM to 7:30 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Services: Tuesday, November 15, 2005 1:30 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Cemetery: Kossuth Cemetery , Rural Mediapolis, IA

Everett William Gerling, 93, of Burlington, formerly of Kingston and West Burlington, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born June 26, 1912, in Hugoton, Kansas he was the son of William Fred and Nora May Bernhart Gerling. On January 8, 1949, he married Colette Smith in Fort Dodge. She died on December 3, 1985. On December 23, 1986, he married Dorothy Heuer Crowner in Mediapolis. She Died December 28, 2002.

Mr. Gerling was a farmer and truck driver. He also worked for the Des Moines County Conservation Board, retiring in 1977.

He was a former member of United Methodist Church in Mediapolis. He enjoyed his horses and tractors.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Kristy) Gerling of Galesburg, Illinois and Lyle Gerling of Sperry; five stepdaughters, Marjorie Allender of West Burlington, Lois Sweiter of Holland, Michigan, Linda Dillon of Burlington, Karen Bergren of Mediapolis and Becky Patrick of Burlington; one grandson, Travis Gerling; 15 step-grandchildren; 32 step-great grandchildren; one step-great great grandchild; one brother, Lesley Gerling of Kingston; and one sister, Opal Schaffer of Mediapolis.

His wives; parents; two brothers; Paul and Donald Gerling; two sisters Violet Hogan and Dorothy Beckman; and one stepdaughter, Donna Koons, preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and the Special Needs Foundation.

Adolf H. Gerst
July 8, 1929 - May 15, 2007

Adolph H. Gerst, 77, of Burlington, Iowa died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Burlington Care Center.

Born July 8, 1929 in Burlington, he was the son of Julius R. and Sarah Knapp Gerst. On June 30, 1951 he married Beverly M. Walker in Burlington.

Mr. Gerst was a 1949 graduate of Burlington High School, 1951 graduate of Burlington Junior College and 1963 graduate of Iowa State University at Ames.

Mr. Gerst was a teacher at Southeastern Community College for 27 years. He farmed with his brothers all his life. In addition, he worked at J.I. Case, Hawkeye Concrete in Morning Sun and Murray Iron Works.

Mr. Gerst was a member of First United Church of Christ, Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club, Blackhawk Auto Restorers, and Midwest Franklin Club. His hobbies included collecting antique cars, draft horses, and tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Gerst of Burlington; three daughters, Kim Royer of Burlington, Dianne (Tom) Smrdel of Peosta, Iowa and Laurie (Tom) Rappenecker of Sperry, Iowa; one son, Alan (Barb) Gerst of Burlington; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Knotts of Mediapolis, Iowa; and two brothers, Herbert “Dick” Gerst of Mediapolis and Ernest Gerst of Burlington.

His son, Scott Gerst, parents, three sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

Hilda Alice Gerst
July 6, 1912 - September 8, 2006

-Family Visitation: Tuesday, September 12th, 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM
-Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 13th, at 10:30 AM in the Oakville Apostolic
Christian Church.
-Interment: Oakville Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.

Apostolic Christian Church, and Great River Hospice.

Hilda Alice Gerst, 94, of Burlington, Iowa died at 11:10 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2006 at Great River Medical Center.

Born July 6, 1912 in Morton, Illinois, she was the daughter of John Menno and Caroline Malinda Slagel Steiner. On September 19, 1948, she married Carl Frederick Gerst in Morton, Illinois. He died June 7, 1976.

Mrs. Gerst was a homemaker. She was a member of the Oakville Apostolic Christian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Luanne Beyer of Mediapolis, Susan J. Gerst and Barbara Wagenbach, both of Burlington; one son, Frederick Gerst of Burlington; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister Wilma Wiedman and one brother Ivan Steiner both of Morton, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, four brothers, six sisters, and two grandsons.

Kenneth Graber
December 23, 1923 - October 11, 2005

-Cemetery: Friday, October 14, 2005 at 1:30 PM in Green Mound Cemetery in Trenton.

Kenneth Wayne Graber, 81 of West Burlington, Iowa died at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at Burlington Care Center in Burlington.
Born December 28, 1923 in rural Henry County, Trenton, Iowa he was the son of Joe L. and Alice Brannon Graber. On March 21, 1945 he married Cecile Ridinger in Trenton.

He was of the Protestant faith and graduated Mount Pleasant High School in 1943.
Mr. Graber worked as an electrician at the CB&Q and Burlington Northern Railroad Shops for 36 years retiring in 1985.

He loved to spend time with his family, travel, fish and his pet dogs, especially Twinkie.

Survivors include his wife, Cecile Graber of West Burlington; two daughters, Martha (Stanley) Widmer of Wayland and Rebecca (Fred) Barrionuevo of Cedar Falls; one son, Daniel (Betty) Graber of Burlington; one grandson, Todd (Marcia) Widmer of Iowa City; two great granddaughters, Sadie Widmer and Claire Widmer of Iowa City; one brother, John (Sherry) Graber of Trenton; and four sisters, Ruth (Max) Wyse of Wayland, Esther Hirschy of Mount Pleasant, Marilyn (Dean) Davison of New London and Josephine (Charles) Conner of Mount Pleasant.

His parents and brother-in-law, Elwyn Hirschy, preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established for Green Mound Cemetery and Des Moines County Humane Society.

Charles Graham
February 15, 1936 - January 12, 2006

Charles Graham, 69, of Burlington died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born February 15, 1936 in Stronghurst, Illinois, he was the son of Clarence A. and Ruth M. Waterman Graham. On March 14, 1953 he married Peggy Ilaine Astfalk in Kahoka, Missouri. She died October 28, 2000.

Mr. Graham was of the Protestant faith and worked as a machinist at Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad Shops for 42 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Mainliners and New London Country Club and a past member of Flint River Bow Hunters, Long Creek Conservation Club and Carthage Lake Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also served in the Iowa National Guard.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy E. (Larry) Blutt of Burlington; three sons, Michael (Debbie) Graham of Burlington, Dan (Lisa) Graham of West Burlington, and Scott (Missy) Graham of Burlington; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; one step great granddaughter; two brothers, John Graham and Thomas “Ed” Graham both of Burlington; and three sisters, Nora Webb and Mary Fisher both of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Frances Valenzuela of Watsonville, California.

His wife and parents preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for New London Country Club.
