AURORA, Ill. - Arlene E. Charlson, 68, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Lake Mills, died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at her home in Aurora, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel, Lake Mills. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel, Lake Mills.

Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, is in charge of arrangements.

CURTIS ALLEN HANSON

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Curtis Allen Hanson, 56, of 4110 DeBarr, Anchorage, Alaska, died Monday (March 15, 1999) at his residence.

Graveside Memorial services will be held at a later date at Rock Grove Cemetery.

MASON CITY - Julia R. Bray of Mason City, formerly of Charles City, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home, rural Charles City. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home, rural Charles City.

GORDON EUGENE CLARK

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Gordon Eugene Clark, 65, Sunnyvale, Calif., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died March 7, 1999, at his home due to complications from cancer.

Memorial services are planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999, at First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams Ave., Mason City. Interment will be in Sun Valley, Idaho, overlooking a favorite vacation spot Gordon frequented.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; daughters, Kelly Clark, Portland, Ore., Lisa Birse, North Potomac, Md., Sara Clark, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Jennifer Clark, Huntington Beach, Calif.; sister, Darlene Rhodes, Duncombe, Iowa; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Walter Dean Clark; father, Bruce Clark; and mother, Gladys Mulkins Clark.

Gordon Eugene Clark was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1951. Following graduation he enlisted in the Army as a simulated flight instructor.

He married Shirley Kupka, of Iowa City, in 1957, and later married Phyllis Correa. Gordon graduated with a Civil Engineering degree in 1960 from the University of Iowa.

Following residence in Marshalltown, Iowa; Illinois; Connecticut and Pennsylvania - his family settled in Costa Mesa, Calif.

Gordon was founder and CEO of Far West Data Systems from 1974-1982. Recent endeavors included CTW Associates, a major innovator for the Y2K (year 2000) issue.

He was an avid skier, tennis player and accomplished chef.

An academic scholarship will be created in Gordon's honor at Mason City High School, where he was an outstanding student-athlete.

Memorials may be given in his name to Mid Peninsula Hospice Service, 201 San Antonio Circle, Suite 135, Mountain View, Calif. 94040.

BILLY JOE 'BILL' FRAZIER

MASON CITY - Billy Joe "Bill" Frazier, 30, of 811 N. Harrison Ave., Mason City, died Monday (March 15, 1999) at his home of a diabetic seizure.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Riverside Church, 527 N. Kentucky Ave., with the Reverend Eugene Wolfley officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the church and will continue until time of services.

Billy Joe Frazier was born September 29, 1968, in Iowa City, son of Delbert and Betty Frazier. He grew up in LeMars and graduated from LeMars High School in 1986. He resided with Richard and Schera Kraft until the age of 20.

Bill moved to Mason City in 1993, and was employed at Winnebago Industries throughout his time in Mason City. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.

Survivors include his fiancee, Mendy Stangler, Mason City; two children, Dakota Joe Frazier, of Mason City, and Amber Jean Frazier, Washa; one sister, Brenda Frazier, Des Moines; three brothers, Delbert Frazier, Des Moines, Chancy Frazier, Des Moines, and Randy Frazier, Nebraska; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; his foster parents, Richard and Schera Kraft, LeMars; two foster sisters, Deborah Fiedler, LeMars, and Terri Brown, LeMars; a foster brother, Brad Kraft, LeMars; and other foster brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

HOWARD V. CHENEY

MASON CITY - Howard V. Cheney, 95, of Mason City, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at Good Shepherd Healthcare Center, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N. E., Mason City, with the Reverend Richard Scheerer, of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery , Manly.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, and will continue prior to services on Friday.

Howard Vernon Cheney was born May 10, 1903, in Millersburg, Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Cheney. Howard grew up in Millersburg and operated Cheney Hardware there. In 1951, Howard moved Cheney Hardware to Manly and operated the store until 1957, when he moved to Mason City and opened Cheney Hardware on the north side of Mason City until retiring.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, dancing and gardening. He enjoyed spending time at the Senior Citizens Center and, in his earlier years, was active in Little League Baseball.

Howard was a member of the Masons Lodge, Manly; and the First Congregational Church of Christ, Mason City.

Survivors include his son, Dale Cheney and his wife, Betty, Mason City; his daughter, Karen Chase, Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Barbara Boehmer, Dale Cheney, and John Cheney, all of Mason City, Kelly Mino, Martinez, Ga., Carol Cheney, Mason City, Jeffrey Chase, Minneapolis, Minn., David Cheney and Paula Walworth, both of Adrian, Mich.; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jessie Hahn, Maringo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther in 1968; his second wife, Beulah; one son, Don Cheney; and a sister, Marie Shaull.

MABRYN 'CONNIE' HENSEL

ALEXANDER - MABRYN "CONNIE" HENSEL, 79, of Alexander, died on Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, in Latimer, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

ETHEL KROPP

GARNER - Ethel Kropp, 85, of Garner, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Ethel Irene Kropp, the daughter of Herman and Lillian (Blumer) Baack, was born March 22, 1913, on a farm near Klemme. She attended the rural schools and graduated from Klemme High School. She received her elementary teaching certificate at the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and taught in the rural schools of Hancock County for several years.

On May 26, 1936, she was married to Caris "Barney" H. Kropp at the Immanuel Reformed parsonage in Klemme. They farmed in the Liberty Township for 10 years until 1946, when they moved to Concord Township and continued to farm until Caris' death in 1979. Ethel continued to live on the home farm until moving to Concord Care Center in October of 1994.

She enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing and working with ceramics and artwork.

She was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Garner Homemaker's Club and the Ventura Garden Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Carita A. Dahlberg of Hopkins, Minn.; her son, Carroll Kropp and his wife, Janet, of St. Joseph, Mo.; three grandchildren, Corey Lynn Kropp, Michael Macey and Cara Rose Kropp; her brothers and sister, Roy Baack and his wife, Bernice, of Thornton, Dorothy Howie and her husband, Jim, of Garner, Robert Baack and his wife, Ruth, of Britt and Richard Baack and his wife, Jean, of Klemme; a sister-in-law, Darlene Baack of Klemme; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Caris, Jan. 12, 1979; parents; a son-in-law, Douglas Dahlberg; a brother, Paul Baack; and a sister, Norma Mauritz.

ESTHER LOUISE GERTRUDE CONRAD

GARNER - Esther Louise Gertrude Conrad, 85, died Wednesday (March 17, 1999) at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will be at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at Friends Cemetery , Iowa Falls.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, is in charge of all arrangements.
