HAMPTON - Harry Collins, 90, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield (515) 892-4241.

GERALDINE FITZGERALD

NASHUA - Geraldine Fitzgerald, 84, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, Nashua. Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

BETTY JANE NODTVEDT

NORTHWOOD - Betty Jane Nodtvedt, 61, of 904 Ninth Ave., died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, Iowa, with the Rev. Selmer Hernes officiating. The family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in charge of services.

Betty was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Grand Marsh, Wis., the daughter of Michael and Bernice Krinke. She attended school in Grand Marsh, Wis.

Betty married Lawrence Nodtvedt in 1958. They lived in Kensett. She moved to Northwood in 1988. She enjoyed reading.

Betty was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett.

Betty is survived by her five children, Ellert Nodtvedt and his wife, Robin, Northwood, Clarence Nodtvedt and his wife, Vicki, Longview, Texas, Susan Jaspers and her husband, Dan, Rock Falls, Minn., Kevin Nodtvedt, Phoenix, Ariz., and Harvey Nodtvedt, Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Morgan Nodtvedt, Brooke Nodtvedt, Jackie Jaspers, Jack Jaspers and Jana Jaspers; one step granddaughter, Jana; three brothers, Jim, Timothy and Roger; and six sisters, Adalade, Dorothy, Rose, Daisy, Nellie and Nancy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; and one brother, Grant.

MAGGIE HEIDERSCHEIDT

ALGONA- Maggie Heiderscheidt, 92, died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at Good Samaritan Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Algona.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, with a parish rosary beginning at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

MABRYN "CONNIE" HENSEL

ALEXANDER - Mabryn "Connie" Hensel, 79, died Tuesday (March 16, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Latimer, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Interment will be in Alexander Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church Saturday.

Mabryn "Connie" Louise (Schaefer) Hensel, the daughter of Andrew and Eunice (Schuck) Schaefer, was born Jan. 21, 1920, at Lake Park, Iowa.

She attended and graduated from Lake Park High School and went on to graduate from the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Connie taught school at Alexander, Orange City, Sioux City and Humbolt, Iowa.

Connie was married to Donald Hensel on April 21, 1946, at Lake Park. The couple then moved to Oelwein, where Don owned and operated a service station. In 1948 Connie and Don moved to Alexander, purchased a grocery store, and started an egg business. As the business grew, Connie became a full-time bookkeeper for their company. She also continued to be actively involved in the farm and trucking company operations.

She was a member of Alexander's "Kitchen Klatter Band," the Alexander Cemetery Society and the Alexander Women's Guild, as well as being active in Franklin County's Little League Baseball program. Connie was an active member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ where she was also the choir director for many years.

Connie loved to spend time at the family cabin on Ten Mile Lake. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, boating, sailing and spending time there with her family and friends. She liked to work with crafts such as doll making, knitting, crocheting and making Christmas ornaments. Connie also enjoyed singing and playing the organ.

She was a very supportive mother to two sons, a devoted and loving wife for 52 years, and she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Donald, of Alexander; sons, Paul Hensel and his wife, Diane, of Alexander, and Mark Hensel and his wife, Marci, of Monticello, Wis.; four grandchildren, Andy, Christie, Lindsey and Allison Hensel; a sister, Althea Chinn and her husband, Bob, of Oakland, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Schaefer, of Hackensack, Minn.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Erwin Schaefer.

LYLE "PORKY" MATHERS

GREENE - Funeral services for Lyle "Porky" Mathers, 68, of 405 East Ely Street, Greene, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at the United Methodist Church in Greene, with pastor Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Tack Barnett Post No. 268, American Legion of Greene.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reid's funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at the church one hour before services.

Lyle Mathers was born Sept. 21, 1930, at Rockford, a son of Frank Burzette and Jennie Arvilla (Berk) Mathers, and died Thursday (March 18, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

He was baptized and received into full membership of the Rockford Methodist Church on April 18, 1943. He received his education in the Rockford Public Schools, graduating in 1948. During his early youth he was employed as a farm hand and later at the Rockford Brick and Tile. He also worked as a house mover and a school bus driver.

On Nov. 7, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Marine Corp, serving as a radio-telephone operator during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge on Nov. 6, 1953, he returned to Rockford, where he received his G. I. Bill training as an auto-body repairman from Blaine Crowell at Crowell's auto Body Shop.

On July 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Alberta Christine Heitland by the Rev. H. D. Clark at the Methodist Church at Mitchell, S. D. To this union was born four children. They made their home in Rockford, where he continued his employment at Crowell's Body Shop and later at the Ford Garage in Charles City and Klassi Motors in Greene. In 1957 they moved to Greene, where he leased the Davis Westside Texaco and opened an auto body repair shop, later relocating across the street. In 1983 he relocated his shop to its present location. He taught his son, Lyle Jr., the auto body repair business, from which he achieved great personal pride and satisfaction.

Lyle and Alberta were co-owners of the Mathers Nursing Home from 1968 until his retirement in 1992.

His interests included bowling, playing pool, cribbage and other card games. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed lake fishing in northern Minnesota and taking his family on many fishing-camping trips. During his retirement and while health still permitted, he enjoyed driving his pick-up around town, stopping by the auto body shop and visiting with his friends. At home he enjoyed having family around, watching his grandson's activities, and occasionally watching fishing shows and westerns on television.

Living family members include two daughters, Tracy Mathers of Des Moines and Tammy and her husband, Travis Litterer, of Greene; one son, Lyle Mathers Jr. of Greene; one grandson, Justin Dean Litterer; one sister, Shirley and her husband, Elvis Cullum; one brother, Leo Mathers of Jacksonville, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Mathers of Jacksonville, Ark. and Kathleen Cormier of Greene; a brother-in-law, Francis Diller of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 19, 1998; his son, Scott in infancy; three sisters, Esther Mathers, Helen Diller, and Baulah Taft-Bray; and three brothers, Frank, Lawrence, and Oscar Mathers.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Lyle Mathers Memorial Fund in care of the Greene Volunteer Ambulance or the American Legion.

ANNA STONECYPHER

OSAGE - Anna Stonecypher, 91, of Osage, died Wednesday (March 17, 1999) at the Faith Home in Osage.

Anna was born January 21, 1908, near Floyd, the daughter of William and Mary (Tjaden) Hess. She attended country school and Floyd schools. Anna married Ted Stonecypher Dec. 4, 1937, and they made their home on a farm south of Osage. In 1977 the couple moved into Osage. Ted died in 1992. Anna moved to the Evergreen Apartments in 1996 and has been a resident of Faith Home since November. Anna and Ted enjoyed square dancing, the Senior Center, and also traveling and crafts. Anna enjoyed her garden and baking.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Osage, with the Rev. Arthur Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage.

Anna is survived by one son, Ray Stonecypher and his wife, Marjorie, of Floyd; a former daughter-in-law, Helen Cross, of Charles City; six grandchildren, Denise Tjaden of Dumont, David Stonecypher of South Dakota, Tony Stonecypher and his wife, Kelly, of Floyd, Rhea Bender and her husband, Aaron, of Mason City, Rhonda Brougher and her husband, John, of Nora Springs, and John Stonecypher and his wife, Karen, of Mason City; four step grandchildren, David Lechner of Corpus Christi, Texas, Deneen Lechner of Osage, James Lechner of Clear Lake, and Dana Lechner and his wife, Nancy, of Corpus Christi, Texas; and a special friend and caregiver, Mary Schallock of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one grandson and three brothers.

JANETTA M. KNOEDLER PIERCE

BRITT - Janetta M. Knoedler Pierce, 82, died on Thursday (March 18, 1999) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt (515) 843-3839.

KENNETH D. HOSKINS

INDEPENDENCE, Kan.- Private services for Kenneth D. Hoskins, 91, of Independence, will be conducted in Mount Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Eytcheson, rector of the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal, officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be directed by Potts Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal, and they may be left at the church office or the funeral home.

Mr. Hoskins died Friday at 6:05 a.m. at Mercy Hospital, where he had been a patient since Feb. 1. Prior to entering the hospital, he had been a resident of Gansel House.

He was born June 28, 1907, in Bartlesville, Okla., to William O and Maggie (Smith) Hoskins. He moved to Independence as a child and attended local schools. He was a salesman until his retirement in 1979.

On May 27, 1927, in Fredonia, he married Virginia Stahl. She died in 1994. The couple lived in various communities before returning to Independence in 1979.

Mr. Hoskins was a member of the Episcopal church, a life member of the Elks Lodge in Mason City, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Blue Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and Shrine Club, all in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

There are no immediate survivors.
