MERLE A. MORRIS
LIME SPRINGS - Merle A. Morris, 87, of Lime Springs, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco.
Merle A. Morris was born on Sept. 9, 1911, in Longmont, Colo., the son of Mode and Lula (Hoblit) Morris. Merle's childhood was spent in Nora Springs.
On June 11, 1938, Merle was united in marriage to Wilma Combs of Cresco. Wilma died in 1997.
A retired farmer, Merle never lost his love of farming. He was always proud of his garden and shared its produce with family and friends.
He is survived by one brother, Robert and wife, Vivian, of Mason City; six nieces, Ardith Bradshaw and husband, Roger, of Charles City, Mary Lou McCauley and husband, Melvin, of Rockford, Dianne Jarosh and husband, Robert, of Mason City, Sharon Gatenby and husband, John, and Ramona Gager, all of Colorado, and Glenice Schinnow and husband, Robert, of Ida Grove; one nephew, Gary Morris and wife, Marji, of Forest City.
Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; his parents, Mode and Lula Morris; two sisters, Vera Clapp and Ethel Reynolds; and three brothers, Clifford, Jack and Kenneth in infancy.
No funeral services will be held as Merle requested. A graveside memorial service in Oak Lawn Cemetery , in Cresco, will be held at a later date.

LESTER GRAY
BUFFALO CENTER - Funeral service for Lester Gray will be Saturday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Bill Peake and the Rev. Dennis Redecker officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center and will resume one hour before the service at the church Saturday. Interment will be at Ramsey Cemetery , rural Titonka.
Lester Gray, son of Arnold and Sadie (Huisman) Gray, was born May 17, 1922, in Titonka.
On July 15, 1943, Lester was married to Ilene Mae Ites at Ramsey Reformed Church, rural Titonka. Ilene passed away Aug. 17, 1992. On Sept. 16, 1995, Lester was married to Luella Miller at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa.
Lester farmed until the 1960s, when he became a salesman for Walnut Grove Products. Lester was a member of the First Reformed church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. He enjoyed baseball and softball and pitched on the church's fast-pitch softball team. He also enjoyed watching the Cubs baseball team. Lester took pride in the care of his lawn and garden, but he especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with his family.
Lester passed away Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. He was 76.
He is survived by his wife, Luella Gray, of Buffalo Center; four sons, Lonnie Gray of Boise, Idaho, David Gray and his wife, Sandra, of Twentynine Palms, Calif., Paul Gray and his wife, Jean, of Oelwein, and Arnold Gray and his fiancee, Robyn Froehlich, of Forest City; three stepchildren, Linda Meyer and her husband, Art, of Waldorf, Minn., Dale Siemens and his wife, Patricia, of Lakota, Lori Homsey and her husband, Jerry, of Rake; eleven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Harley Hassebroek; three brothers, Alvin, Lloyd and Larry Gray; three sisters, Arlene Rafdahl, Lois Behrends, Dorothy Huesman; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ailts.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ilene; his daughter, Susan Hassebroek; an infant son, Gary; and two brothers, Richard and Vernon.

MANLY - Agatha L. "Peg" Johnson, 86, of Manly, died Friday (March 19, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
