VERONICA THADA

GARNER - Veronica Thada, 81, of Garner, died Thursday (March 25, 1999) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery , Garner.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Veronica Marcella Thada, the daughter of John A. and Mary (Chizek) Liska, was born Feb. 1, 1918, on a farm in Garfield Township in Hancock County. She attended school at Hayfield, graduating in 1935. Veronica worked at Hancock County Co-op Oil for five years.

On Aug. 20, 1952, she was married to Warren Willard Thada at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner. They farmed northeast of Garner until they retired in 1986. They moved west of Miller in 1989 and into Garner in 1997.

Veronica enjoyed flowers, gardening, sewing and homemaking.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her son, Glenn A. Thada and his wife, Jody, of Garner; her daughter, Marsha A. Doebel and her husband, Michael, of Clear Lake; a grandson, Derek Doebel; three stepgrandchildren, Joshua Schulze and his wife, Heather, Danielle and her husband, Cory Graham, and Jeremy Schulze; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Morgan Lynn Graham; five brothers and sisters, Walter Liska, of Sun City, Calif., John Liska and his wife, Agnes, of Garner, Rosemary Schroeder of Anaheim, Calif., Cletus Liska and his wife, Marge, of Clear Lake and Barbara Nedved and her husband, Lewis, of Garner; and two sisters-in-law, Marian Liska of Albert Lea, Minn., and Lillian Thada of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Thada, March 31, 1998; her parents; a sister, Doris Fosdick; and two brothers, Leo Liska and Donald Liska.

LAVERNE D. RINGLEB

HAMPTON - Laverne D. Ringleb, 70, of Hampton, died Thursday (March 25, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, with the Rev. Michael Bahde officiating. Burial will be held in Maynes Grove Cemetery , rural Bradford.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

NELLIE H. WOBSCHALL

NEWTON - Nellie H. Wobschall, 79, of 105 N. Second Ave. E., died Monday (March 22, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Newton, with the Rev. Lynn Elrod, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery , Glenville, Minn.

Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home, 105 S. Second Ave. W., Newton.

STANLEY O. PEDERSON

LAKE MILLS - Stanley O. Pederson, 73, of 302 E. Main St., Lake Mills, died Thursday (March 25, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Lake Mills. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery , Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the Stanley O. Pederson home, 302 E. Main St., Lake Mills, with a wake service at 8 p.m.

Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, is in charge of arrangements.

BILL ROBERTSON

GARNER - Bill Robertson, 87, of Garner, died Friday (March 26, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Garner, with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery , with graveside military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

William Craige Robertson was born at Collins, Iowa, on May 23, 1911, the son of Robert Craige and Nellie (Sperry) Robertson. He was educated at Collins and Alden, where he graduated in 1929. He attended Grinnell College and the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. From 1932-36, he published the "Hampton Reminder" in Hampton.

On April 4, 1937, he married Eunice F. Schumacher at Hampton. He worked in a shoe store in Oelwein in 1937, and from 1938-40 managed a shoe store in Waverly. From 1942-44 he worked for the Bellingham Marine & Shipbuilding Corporation in Bellingham, Wash. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician's mate. After the service, he was a salesman with the Perfection Manufacturing Company in Minneapolis and later with the Mishawaka Rubber & Woolen Manufacturing Company.

In the fall of 1949, Bill and Eunice moved to Garner and owned and operated the Grill Cafe. He was also an auditor for the International Shoe Company in Houston, Texas. Bill owned and operated Bill's Leather & Shoes out of the old bank building from 1960 until he retired in 1979.

He enjoyed his family, friends, music, fishing and golfing.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Club, the Masonic Lodge, the Garner Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa Restaurant Association. He had also served on the Garner City Council.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Robertson, of Garner; his daughter, Connie Mae Howard and her husband, Ted, of River Falls, Wis.; two grandchildren, Craig and Kimberly; and two cousins, Maxine Sperry Betts and Buddy Sperry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandmother, "Ma" Sperry.

ELDON T. 'ART' ARTHUR

MASON CITY - Eldon T. "Art" Arthur, 64, of 16054 245th St., Mason City, died Thursday afternoon (March 25, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

No services will be held and his cremated remains will be taken to California. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hospice of North Iowa. The family spent a private time of remembrance with Art before his cremation.

Eldon was born on Feb. 24, 1935, in Clarion, the son of Gaylen and Bertha "Lundy" Arthur. He attended school in Clarion and then began his own company called Wright County Roofing.

Eldon was married to Donna Hudgins on Sept. 15, 1954, in Eagle Grove. To this marriage were born three children. In 1970, he moved to California, where he was a foreman for Waukesha Diesel Company. In 1990 he moved to Mason City, where he has lived ever since.

He loved to fish for Northerns and Walleyes at Lake Cornelia, around North Iowa and in Minnesota. He enjoyed discussing politics and current affairs and working on cars. He also was a talented artist, making numerous sketches and drawings. Eldon was a wonderful father who loved and adored kids and will be greatly missed by his family.

Those thankful for having shared Eldon's life include his daughter, Danell Arthur and Mark Huth, of Cerritos, Calif.; his son, Steven and his wife, Lori Arthur, of Billings, Mont.; one sister, Sadie Scott of Bunston, Mo.; seven brothers, Alvin and his wife, Aileen Arthur, Clarion, Elmer and his former wife, Phyllis Arthur, of Mason City, Archie and his wife, Maureen, Leo and Carol, Leland and his wife, Carol, and Gayle and his wife, Gloria, all of Clarion; and Wayne and his wife, Barb, of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Jeramie, Brandon, Gina, and Shona Arthur, Summer Simpson, and Fallon Huth; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Stoltz, and Karson Zeitler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert, in 1975; and one brother, Larry Arthur.

DELMAR ADOLPH STEHN

CARPENTER - Delmar Adolph Stehn, 76, of Carpenter, died Wednesday (March 24, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Newberg Township Cemetery , Carpenter.

Friends may call from 3 until 6 p.m. Sunday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th Street South, Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

Delmar Adolph Stehn was born on Sept. 12, 1922, in rural Carpenter, the son of Adolph and Mabel (Smith) Stehn. He attended and received his education in the Carpenter School system, graduating from Carpenter High School in 1941.

After completing his schooling, he went into farming west of Carpenter and continued to farm until 1975. In 1965, he started working for the Northwood Co-op Elevator in the Carpenter Branch until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he worked part time for Red's Ag. Service in Carpenter.

He was united in marriage to Edna Floy on Oct. 20, 1945, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Thornton.

He enjoyed watching sports on T.V., cats and flowers, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren, as they were an important part of his life.

He was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter and also a member of the Carpenter Community Center.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Jim Stehn and his wife, Eldora, of Northwood, Ron Stehn of Shenandoah, Dan Stehn and his wife, Donna, of Cresco, and Kathy Stehn of Fairmont, Minn.; six grandchildren, Tracey Dunn of Perry, Toni Branstad of Charleston, S.C., Rodney Stehn of Northwood, Molly Stehn of Cedar Falls, and Katie and Maggie Stehn of Cresco; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Branstad of Charleston, S.C., Tiffany and Austin Dunn of Perry; a twin sister, Della Matt and her husband, the Rev. Joe Matt, of Austin, Minn.; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Russell Stehn; and one sister, Ethel Tesch.

FREDERICK 'FRITZ' CARL VIERKANDT

ROCKFORD - Frederick "Fritz" Carl Vierkandt, 82, of Valleyview Nursing Home, Eldora, died Thursday (March 25, 1999) at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Rockford, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Interment to follow in the Riverside Cemetery , Rockford.

Visitation will beginning at 11 a.m. until time of services today at the church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Frederick Vierkandt Memorial Fund.

Fritz was born July 4, 1916, the son of Carl and Mamie (Bessman) Vierkandt, in Buckeye. Following his local schooling, Fritz attended seminary in Minnesota. On Jan. 25, 1942, Fred was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country as a Technician Fifth Grade and was also involved in arranging the entertainment on the base. Fred's duty ended on Oct. 6, 1945, due to demobilization of troops. He returned home to later be united in marriage to Lou Ellen Teeter in Minnesota.

Fritz was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting pheasants, deer, rabbits and squirrels. He could also be found fishing whenever possible. Fred was an entertainer with his story telling and singing ability. He loved to visit with friends and family and always looked forward to family gatherings. After finishing all of his other activities, Fred would spend the rest of his time reading.

Fred is survived by one stepson, William and his wife, Bonnie Teeter, of Parkersburg, W.V.; two sisters, Lola Wilson of Iowa Falls, and Velma Peterson of Pahrump, Nev.; one grandson, Thomas Teeter; one great-granddaughter, Autumn; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lou Ellen in 1978; one infant sister, Kathleen; and one brother, George.
