JAMES LOVE

CHARLES CITY - James Love, 78, of 611 Ninth Ave., died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery , Charles City, with a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Family will greet friends at the Hauser Funeral Home an hour prior to the services Friday.

HAZEL F. T. BROWN

MASON CITY - Hazel F. T. Brown, 87, of 202 25th St. S.W., died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 E. State St., Mason City, with the Rev. James B. Norem officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and will resume on hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

JAMES "JIM" EUGENE KIEFER

MASON CITY - James "Jim" Eugene Kiefer, 52, of 516 Third St. N.E., died Saturday (April 3, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Greene, with the Rev. Galen E. Smith officiating. Burial will be in West Side Cemetery , Marble Rock, with military honors conducted by the Stroud-Gates Post No. 387 of the American Legion, Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

James "Jim" Eugene Kiefer was born April 14, 1946, in Des Moines, the son of Lewis and Ruth (Boyd) Kiefer.

Jim served in the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kan., and was honorably discharged on May 13, 1970, after receiving the National Defense medal for his service.

In 1967 he married Virginia Learn in Charles City. After her death, he was married to Cindy Knapp on June 4, 1983 in Mason City.

Jim loved fishing and ice-fishing and watching the Minnesota Vikings and WWF and WCW wrestling. He also enjoyed Western movies and Native American art.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy (Knapp) Kiefer, Mason City; his mother, Ruth Kiefer, Greene; children, Kevin Kiefer, Charles City, Kimberly Blair and her husband, Darren, Burlington, Bobbi Blanchard, New Hampton, Russell Kiefer, Samsula, Fla., Shawn Rose, Denison, Dale Nelson and his wife, Cynthia, Eagle Grove, Christy Hewitt and her husband, Tom, Mason City, Stefanie Tidemanson and her husband, Troy, St. Ansgar, Ray Stump, Mason City, Michelle Keough and her husband, Jim, Roseville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Virginia.

RUEBEN S. BLOMBERG

MANSON, Iowa -Rueben S. Blomberg, 87, died Sunday (April 4, 1999) at Trinity Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Pomeroy with the Rev. David Benedict officiating. Burial will be in the Evangelical Covenant Cemetery , Pomeroy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.

Rueben S. Blomberg was born near Pomeroy, Iowa, on Dec. 26, 1911. He died on Easter Sunday, April 4, while in route from his home to the hospital in Fort Dodge. Rueben was the second of three children born to Charles and Matilda Johansson Blomberg. His sister Elsie, brother Iner, and his parents preceded him in death.

Rueben attended school in Pomeroy where he graduated from high school in 1930. After attending trade school in Des Moines and working various farm-related jobs, he became employed by the Palmer-Pomeroy Telephone Company.

On March 12, 1939, Rueben was married to Mae Anderson after the Sunday Morning worship service at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Pomeroy. The young couple set up residence in an upstairs apartment in Palmer, where Rueben worked for the telephone company and Mae was employed by the bank. A few years later Rueben changed his occupation to carpentry, and he continued in that line of work until his retirement in 1973. His skill and craftsmanship are evident in his wood creations, many of which are now the prized possessions of family and friends.

Rueben and Mae were blessed with two daughters, Janice, Mrs. Robert Dugger, of Manson, and Jeanne, Mrs. Harlan Wittkopf, of Algona. Mae, Jan, Jeanne and their husbands all survive. Also surviving are Rueben's pride and joy, his five grandchildren. They are Rob Dugger, Kris Dugger, Tim Dugger, Justin Wittkopf, and Lynne Wittkopf. Rueben was also blessed with six great-grandchildren that survive.

Rueben was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Pomeroy his entire 87 years. He served the church in many capacities during that time. He and is his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 12, 1999. His greatest love was his family, all three generations of which referred to him affectionately as "Pops."

WILBERT (BILL) CHANDLER HAASE

DALLAS, Texas - Wilbert (Bill) Chandler Hasse, 64, died Saturday (April 3, 1999); he was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Dec. 17, 1934, son of Wilbert Haase Sr. and Mary Catherine Quinn Haase. He spent his youth in Mason City, Iowa, where he excelled in basketball and baseball.

He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force from 1954-59. After the military, he moved back to Mason City where he worked for Herb and George TV. He owned his own TV repair shop before moving to Texas in 1973. While in Texas he continued his career in the communications industry before retiring in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Haase of Dallas; his children, Ken Haase of Broken Arrow, Okla., Daniel Haase of Mason City, Lynn Evans of Jacksonville, N. C., William Haase of Mason City, Kimberly Knight of Madison, Wis., Michele Hill of Deer Park, Texas, SSgt. Robert Haase stationed in Great Falls, Mont.; and stepson, Scott Greene of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters, Sue Helm of Denver, Colo., Pat Whittington of Bedford, Texas, and Sherry Merriss of Kentwood, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and a godchild, Chandler Quinn.

Bill loved bowling, softball, the Minnesota Vikings and the Texas Rangers. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 2232 W. Fifth at Story Road, Irving, Texas, on Wednesday, (April 7).

RUSSELL F. STOCKDALE

DUMONT - Russell F. Stockdale, 85, died Monday (April 5, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dumont United Methodist Church, Dumont. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery , Aplington.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Dumont.

DELORES PORTER

LAKE MILLS - A memorial service for Delores Porter of 906 S. Grant, Lake Mills, Iowa, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. The Rev. Roger Dykstra will officiate.

Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the New Ulm Cemetery in New Ulm, Minn.

There will be no visitation. Memorial service arrangements were completed by Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills.

Delores Ann Porter, daughter of Vernon and Bernice (Swenson) Peterson, was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Winnebago County, Lake Mills.

She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.

In August of 1953 Delores married Elwood Porter at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. To this union one daughter was born, Ann Marie.

Delores graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1949. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1951. She continued her education and graduated from Drake University while teaching at the elementary level in several schools. She retired from teaching in 1995 at New Ulm Public Schools, completing a teaching career of 44 years.

Delores passed away Saturday (April 3, 1999) in rural Hancock County as the result of an auto accident. She was 67.

She is survived by her mother, Bernice Peterson of Lake Mills; three sisters, Verna Helgeson of Lake Mills, Joan and her husband, Ron Hall, of Rochester, Minn., Mary and her husband, Dave Dakken, of Waterville, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; her daughter, Ann Marie; her father, Vernon Peterson; and her brother-in-law, Kurtis Helgeson.

CAROL ELIZABETH DAVIS

HAMPTON - Carol Elizabeth Davis, 64, died Sunday (Feb. 28, 1999) at her home in Hampton.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont with the Rev. Robert Connor officiating.

ROBERT BIDWELL

SAN MARCOS, Calif.-Robert John Bidwell, 93, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at a local retirement residence.

Robert was born Aug. 12, 1905, in Kearney, Neb.; he lived in San Marcos for 26 years. He was a painter for Eric Lundeen Paint Contractors for 20 years.

He was an active member of the San Marcos Joslyn Senior Center and played on the Joslyn Center Billiard League. He was a member of the Bidwell Family Association and was a commercial artist for LA Printing and Central Printing of Iowa. He was the owner of Sunnyslope Hobby Shop in Sunnyslope, Ariz. He was an artist, showing his paintings at the San Marcos Joslyn Center and was a member of the San Marcos Variety Ensemble.

Mr. Bidwell was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Cora Anderson Bidwell, and his brother, Lawrence Bidwell.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Doyle and Bessie Bidwell of Temecula, Calif.; his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dennis Smith, of Lakeport, Calif.; brothers, Harold Bidwell of Tacoma, Wash., and Alvin Bidwell of Visalia, Calif.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A private inurnment took place at San Marcos Cemetery.
