Joseph “Joie” William Alexander Gray, 34, of Burlington died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in Burlington.

Born November 26, 1973 in Burlington he was the son of George Pitts and Sandy Gray.

Mr. Gray was a 1992 graduate of Burlington High School. He served in the Army National Guard. He drove a semi in the Shipping Department for Winegard.

Mr. Gray was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church. He enjoyed driving monster trucks, riding his motorcycle, camping, spending time with his kids and his best friend John.

Survivors include one daughter, Jolene Gray of Burlington; two sons, Spencer Gray and Kenneth Gray both of Muscatine; his mother and stepfather, Sandy Gray and George Pitts of Burlington; one brother, Michael Pitts of Burlington; three sisters, Tammy Trickler, Annette Cain and Jenny Stewart all of Burlington; maternal grandmother, Marge Lotz of Port Charlotte, Florida.

His grandfather, Kenneth Gray preceded him in death.

Charles B. Gregg
March 8, 1918 - March 14, 2006

-Interment: Aspen Grove Cemetery , Burlington, Iowa

Charles B. Gregg, 88, of LeClaire and formerly Burlington died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at his residence in LeClaire.

Born March 8, 1918 in Danville, he was the son of Howard Mason and Martha Finley Wharton Gregg.

He was first married to Elizabeth Waggoner, then married to Velva Jane Martin who died May 17, 1972. He was then married to Lorena Long in 1974 who died in 1999.

Mr. Gregg was a machinist at ALCOA Aluminum for 21 years retiring in 1984. He also worked as a millwright for many years and was a mechanic for the railroad and other companies.

He attended Faith Baptist Church in Oquawka and Pleasant View Baptist Church in Pleasant Valley.

Mr. Gregg is survived by three daughters, Carol (Boyd) Jensen of Polk City, Florida, Ruth (Rick) Roll of Monmouth, Illinois and Martha (Paul) Jensen of LeClaire; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Durbin; his wives; three sisters; and three brothers.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Helen May Grinstead
March 28, 1923 - November 25, 2005

-Cemetery: Long Creek Cemetery , rural Danville, IA

Helen May Grinstead, 82, of New London Nursing and Rehab Center in New London, formerly of Burlington died at 4:55 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2005, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born March 28, 1923 in Lowell she was the daughter of Roscoe and Ida Zachmeyer Watson. She married Raymond D. Grinstead.

Ms. Grinstead worked in data processing for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and J.I. Case Col. She retired from J.I. Case n 1987 after 14 years of service.

She was a 1941 graduate of Danville High School. She was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7641 and was a past president of AARP and JFWC.

Survivors include three sons, Keith (Myrna) Grinstead of Quincy, Illinois, John (Donna) Grinstead of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Gary (Anna) Grinstead of Fort Madison; three daughters, Peggy (Arthur) Jenkins of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sandra (Roger) Anderson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Lorna (Robert) Hempen of Las Vegas, Nevada; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

Her parents; two daughters, Janet Graves and Gail Grinstead; two grandsons, Rex Graves and Infant Terrell Graves; one sister, Elsie Johnson; and three brothers, Ellis Watson, Ernest Watson and Glen Watson preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established for the Diabetes Association.

Margaret "Peg" Elizabeth Guerin
May 7, 1923 - January 1, 2006

Margaret “Peg” Elizabeth Guerin, 82, of Burlington died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, January 1, 2006, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born May 7, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Daniel Herbert and Martha Helen Todd Spalding Lamb. On June 4, 1955 she married Edward John Guerin in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Guerin was a homemaker. She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church and was very active in the Hetta Gilbert Society. She was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her husband, Edward John Guerin of Burlington; two sons, L. James Guerin of Omaha, Nebraska and Robert M. Guerin of San Rafael, California; two daughters, Mary M. Foote of Stillwell, Kansas and Gayle M. Hudson of Forest Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters Catharine D. Lathrop of Brookings, Oregon and Mary A. Ericsen of Modesto, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

One son Gary, her parents, and three brothers preceded her in death.

Ronald Paul Guffey
March 29, 1937 - January 31, 2007

Memorials have been established for Danville United Methodist Church and for a
music scholarship.

Ronald Paul Guffey, 69, of Danville, Iowa died at 4:24 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born March 29, 1937 in Newton, Iowa, he was the son of Paul R. and Minnie A. Clement Guffey. On September 29, 1973 he married Nancy A. Beckman in Danville.

Mr. Guffey was a 1955 graduate of Newton High School and a 1963 graduate of American Institute of Business in Des Moines. He was an Army veteran serving from 1957 until 1959 as a Specialist 5. He worked in production at Champion Spark Plug/Federal Mogul from 1974 until 2002.

Mr. Guffey was a member of Danville United Methodist Church where he was the choir director and teacher of Cross Talk Class, lay leader, and served on various committees. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 1237.

He served as a leader of Webelos and Boy Scouts of America, Pack 71 of Danville and an active supporter of youth activities in the community. Mr. Guffey was known for his vocal talent, singing in his church, and singing lead with the Blackhawk Four Barbershop Quartet and the Overtones Chorus (Barbershop Harmony Society).

He enjoyed his church families at West Hill and Danville United Methodist Churches, where he was active with the Danville United Methodist Men, and friends at Long Creek. He served as Youth Leader of the UMYF at West Hill for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Nancy A. Guffey of Danville; two sons, Aaron Paul Guffey of Portland, Oregon and Andrew Ryan Guffey of Chicago, Illinois; and one brother, James S. (Joanne) Guffey of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

His parents preceded him in death.

Janetlee Gulick
January 21, 1921 - June 3, 2007

-Family will receive friends: Thursday, June 7th, 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM and
Friday, June 8th 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM in Lunning Chapel.
-Graveside Funeral Service: Friday, June 8th, at 11:00 AM in Aspen Grove Cemetery
The Reverend Scott Graham will officiate.

Janetlee Gulick, 86, of Alton, Illinois and formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Eden Village Nursing Home in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Born January 21, 1921 in Farmington, IA she was the daughter of Louis and Rosalee Jenkins Higdon. On March 15, 1940 she married John B. Gulick in Burlington. He died December 14, 1988.

Mrs. Gulick was educated in Des Moines County schools.

She was a member of Abundant Life Community Church in Alton, IL.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Ronald J. Gulick of Port Orange, Florida; one daughter, Pamela R. Peterson of Alton; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; six brothers, Earl Higdon, Jim Higdon, Bill Higdon, Stanley Higdon, Bob Higdon and Gary Higdon; and four sisters, Betty McGrath, Dorothy Mills, Shirley Frank and Kay Berghold.

Her husband; parents; one grandson, Corey Peterson; and three brothers, Louis Higdon, Jr., Glenn Higdon and Eugene Higdon preceded her in death.
