DOROTHY M. MATHIASCH
CLEAR LAKE - Dorothy M. Mathiasch, 81, 309 S. Eighth St., Clear Lake, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home, Marshalltown, with the Rev. Jay Coble officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery , Marshalltown.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.
There will be visitation from 12:30 p.m. until time of services on Friday at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Dorothy M. Mathiasch Memorial Fund.
Dorothy was born July 8, 1917, in Weldon. She was the daughter of Alfred and Geneva (Schutts) Strohm. She attended Weldon schools and was confirmed in the Christian Church, Weldon.
She married Joseph Mathiasch Jan. 2, 1935, in Weldon, where they made their home until 1936. They then moved to Marshalltown and lived there until 1981, when she moved to Clear Lake.
Dorothy worked at several business places in Marshalltown, including the Marshall Canning Co., until 1952. She worked at the Fisher Controls Co. from 1952 to 1979, when she retired.
Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo, cards with her grandson and going to visit the cabin on the river in Greene.
She is a past Noble Grand of Tina Rebekah Lodge No. 105, Clear Lake, Iowa. She attended the Christian Church at Marshalltown and was a member of Fishers "25 Year Club."
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Dorothy McQuown, of Charles City; four brothers, Bob Strohm and his wife, Joanne, of Marshalltown, Pete Strohm of Marshalltown, Al Strohm and his wife, Marie, of Rhodes, and Gene Strohm and his wife, Donna, of Marshalltown; five grandchildren, Rick Benson and his wife, Sondra, of Mason City, Mike Benson and his wife, Liz, of Marshalltown, Becky Angle and her husband, Terry, of Gilman, Kathy Edwards and her husband, Rick, of Marshalltown, and Joe McQuown of Waterloo; 11 great-grandchildren, Jarrod, Justin, Amy, Josh, Lindsay, Jenny, Zac, Shelby, Alissa, Katelyn and Jessica; and two great-great-grandchildren, Tia and Dalton.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Neva and Betty; and two infant children, Kathrine and Joseph.

MARTHA C. MEYER
MASON CITY - Martha C. Meyer, 83, of 1111 N. Carolina Ave., died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Robert Towner officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Columbarium, Mason City.
There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to St. John's Episcopal Church in her memory.
Martha C. Meyer was born Jan. 17, 1916, the daughter of Ernest Reynold and Bessie Mae (Quigley) Westerberg, in Alexandria, Minn.
Martha attended and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1933. She then graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. and she attended St. Cloud Teacher's College in St. Cloud for additional training.
Martha married Harry B. Meyer on May 29, 1941, in Alexandria. Martha taught school in Brainerd, Minn., and Alexandria, for a few years.
Then in the Fall of 1946, she and Harry moved to Mason City. For several years, Martha served as the director of christian education at St. John's Episcopal Church. Martha then served as the administrator of the North Iowa Library Extension for 10 years, retiring in 1978.
Martha was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Altar Guild and the director of christian education. She also was a member of Christian Women, the YWCA Board, where she served as chairman of property, and Mason City Women's Club.
Martha and Harry enjoyed traveling to China and throughout the United States.
Martha is survived by her husband, Harry B. Meyer, of Mason City; one daughter, Anne M. Sinner and her husband, Stephen, of Bettendorf; two sons, Robert Meyer and his wife Sharon, of Mason City, and Weston Meyer and his wife, Nancy, of Denver, Colo.; one granddaughter, Janet Cole and her husband, Michael, of Pleasant Valley; two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Tony Cole, of Pleasant Valley; and one brother, Robert Westerberg and his wife, Mary, of Carson City, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Betty.

MASON CITY - L. Florence Herbener, 95, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (April 21, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. Interment will be in the LuVerne Cemetery , LuVerne.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

KENNETH SIMKINS
MCMENNVILLE, Ore. - Kenneth Simkins passed away on Monday (April 19, 1999) at his son's home in McMennville, Ore. He was 73 years old. The body will be cremated.
He was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Mason City. There he attended school and worked for Hermanson's Dairy and Ideal Sand & Gravel.
He married Lucille Neumann of Mitchell, on June 4, 1951. Soon thereafter, they moved to Oregon, where he worked for Olympic Manufacturing in Gresham, Multhomah County Road Department, and the City of Portland Department of Public Works.
He liked to fish and sell produce on the street corner and at the flea market.
After his retirement, they moved back to Iowa, where he enjoyed selling produce at flea markets. He also liked having coffee at Jean's Cafe in Rockwell. They returned to Oregon in 1998 and lived with his son in McMennville.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two sons, Kris Allen of McMennville and Dale Edward and special friend, Pam, of McMennville; two daughters, Carol Jean Hogan and her husband, Ed, of McMennville, and Laura Lynn Gurley and her husband, Richard, of Salem, Ore.; four grandchildren, Renee, Robert, Sonnie and Andrea; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters.

HAMPTON - Cleone Anna Marie Marken, 79, of Hampton, died Saturday (April 17, 1999) at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home, Clifton, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, with the Rev. Remigio P. Panlaqui from the Chapin United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

MASON CITY - Rose Christine Day Mettler, 75, of Davenport, formerly of Mason City, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at the Crest Health Care Center, Davenport.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday, May 1, 1999, at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , Mason City.
There was no visitation. The body was cremated. Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly Road at Jersey Ridge, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES CITY - Edmund W. Maschek Sr., 91, formerly of 203 10th Ave., Charles City, died Tuesday (April 20, 1999) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.
