HENRY OUDEKERK
CLEAR LAKE - Henry Oudekerk, 81, of Clear Lake, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Officiating the service will be the Rev. David Wiersbe of the Evangelical Free Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City. Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Henry Oudekerk Memorial Fund.
Henry Oudekerk was born Jan. 24, 1918, at Kalamazoo, Mich., the son of Albert and Grace (Pomp) Oudekerk Sr. He married Myrtle Harringa on Sept. 15, 1941, in Princeton, Mo. He served in the Army during World War II. They moved to Clear Lake in 1958 from Illinois. Henry worked at the Clear Lake Bakery as a mechanic for 17 years. He retired due to ill health.
Henry loved to go to auctions and visit with people. He enjoyed making custom wind chimes and wishing wells.
Henry is survived by his wife, Myrtle Oudekerk, Clear Lake; five children, Dorothy Nicolet and her husband, Larry, Thornton, Delores Pinneke and her husband, Robert, St. Ansgar, Don Oudekerk and his wife, Judi, Buffalo, Minn., Dianna Berghefer, Clear Lake, and Duane Oudekerk and his wife, Jan, Crystal, Minn.; three brothers, Albert Oudekerk Jr. and his wife, Marlene, Mason City, Gordon Oudekerk and his wife, Ila Jean, Aredale, and Ralph Oudekerk and his wife, Myrna, Forest City; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

LEONE FLORENCE GASKILL
NORTHWOOD - Leone Florence Gaskill, 81, of rural Northwood, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice, with the Rev. Elwin Walvatne officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery
in Northwood.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church. Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.
Leone Florence Gaskill was born on Oct. 4, 1917, in rural Joice, the daughter of Squire and Laura (Crowell) Parker. She attended and received her education in the rural country school in Joice, graduating from Fertile High School in 1935. She also attended Northwestern Bible College for two years in Minneapolis, Minn. She was united in marriage to Donald Gaskill on March 16, 1939, in rural Joice. After their marriage, together they farmed in rural Joice, Hanlontown, and rural Northwood.
She enjoyed sewing, stitching, flowers, gardening, cooking and canning, but her great love and enjoyment was her husband, family and grandchildren.
She was a Baptist by faith.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Donald Gaskill, of rural Northwood; six children, Phyllis Hrubetz of Mason City, David Gaskill and Wayne Gaskill of Adams, Minn., Mike Gaskill and his wife, Deb, of Lake Mills, Ray Gaskill of Northwood, and Bob Gaskill and his wife, Terry, of Marshalltown; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Beaulieu of Bemidji, Minn.; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sets of twin siblings who died in infancy; another brother, Warren Clifford Parker; two grandchildren, Jedd and Mike Gaskill; and a son-in-law, David Hrubetz.

HARLEY MELVINE UBBEN
HAMPTON - Harley Melvine Ubben, 71, died Friday (April 30, 1999) at the Hampton Care Center.
A private memorial service will be held at the Dumont Cemetery , with the Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating.
There will be no visitation. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
MADONNA PITZ
CHARLES CITY - Madonna Pitz, 80, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, where a vigil scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
ERNESTINA PEREZ (SALDIVAR) LUNA
MASON CITY - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., for Ernestina P. Luna, 91, of 525 N. Van Buren Ave., who died Wednesday (April 28, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City, of natural causes.
Pastor Dave Callison will officiate, and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Memorials may be made to the Ernestina P. Luna Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Luna was born April 3, 1908, in Cotulla, Texas, to Juan Perez and Cruz Saldivar. On March 5, 1925, she married Antonio "Tony" R. Luna in Cotulla, Texas.
They lived in Big Wells, Texas, where Tony worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 10 years. In 1938, they moved with their family to Hayfield, where Tony farmed for the Lewerke family and for himself for many years. In 1958, they moved to Mason City.
Mrs. Luna worked in the kitchen at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital for several years.
Mrs. Luna was a member of the Baptist Church and the Hispanic American Club and Trust.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Margaret Funk, Manly, Nancy Wilkerson and her husband, Arnie, Sacramento, Calif., and Linda VanDusseldorp and her husband, Gary, Mason City; four sons, Ralph Perez Luna Sr. and his wife, Minnie, Joe P. Luna Sr., David Luna and his wife, Joan, and Leo Luna, all of Mason City; one sister, Esperanza Rangel, Los Angeles, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, one daughter, two grandsons, two great-grandchildren, and one son-in-law.

VERLA A. KINDSCHUH
MASON CITY - Verla A. Kindschuh, 75, of 360 Yorktown Pike, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
LEROY JOHN GILBERT
OSAGE - LeRoy John Gilbert, 79, of Osage, died Thursday (April 29, 1999) at the Faith Home in Osage.
LeRoy was born April 11, 1920, on the family farm northwest of New Hampton near North Washington, the son of Peter and Susanna (Ungs) Gilbert. He married Alma Langreck on Aug. 31, 1948, at St. Lucas. He farmed on the Gilbert family farm until 1982, when he retired. He moved to Des Moines, where he lived for five years and was employed as an apartment manager. He then moved to Mason City, where he lived for nine years. The last three years he has lived in Osage. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years, and was a member of the Osage Senior Citizens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Father Philip Recker officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in St. Mary's Cemetery
in New Hampton.
Visitation at Champion Funeral Home in Osage will begin at 2:30 p.m. Monday. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., followed by a scripture wake service at 8 p.m.
He is survived by four sons, Denis Gilbert and wife, Rita, of Omaha, Neb., Gary Gilbert and wife, Pam, of Osage, Alan Gilbert and wife, Ruth, of Ionia, and Warren Gilbert and wife, Jean, of Plymouth; three daughters, Ardell Stoller and husband, David, of Jupiter, Fla., Diane Swan and husband, Kevin "Casey" of Spring Hill, Kan., and Lori

and husband, Carl Jr. "Cubby", of New Hampton; two sisters, Elizabeth Brinks and husband, Edwin, of New Hampton, and Leona Murphy and husband, Edward, of Waterloo; one step-sister, Catherine Lensing, of New Hampton; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Emily; and a step-brother, Henry Gilbert.
JOHN C. NICHOLS
CLEAR LAKE - John C. Nichols, 67, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (June 12, 1999) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.
Memorials may be given to the John C. Nichols Memorial Fund.
John was born to John C. Nichols Sr. and Mae (Odom) Nichols on Nov. 3, 1931, in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1949.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in April of 1951 and was discharged in April of 1954. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity.
He married Edith Hansen on Dec. 21, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Mason City Junior College in 1956. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames majoring in engineering. He was employed as assistant to the county engineer for Cerro Gordo County for 33 years.
He was a charter member of the Clear Lake Evening Lions. His dedication to the Lions was shown through his 24 years of service and he loved serving the community through the club. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He devoted his time raising his family and some of his favorite pastimes were gardening, yard work, cooking, traveling and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Nichols, of Clear Lake; his son, Michael Nichols, of Clear Lake; four daughters, Kathryn Metzger, of Anderson, Ind., Deborah Dillavou, of Higley, Ariz., Linda Nichols, of Cleveland, Okla., and Sandra Lee, of Clear Lake; a brother, Donald Nichols, of Clear Lake; and five grandchildren, Courtney Dillavou, Andrea Dillavou, Ryan Metzger, Colin Metzger and C. J. Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant sister, Dorothy.
