ELIZABETH HAYUNGS
WODEN - Elizabeth Hayungs, 96, of Woden, passed away Thursday (June 24, 1999) at the Titonka Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Woden, with the Rev. Arlen Lloyd officiating. Interment will be in Bingham Township Cemetery , south of Woden.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Woden, and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
Elizabeth Hayungs, the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Urban) Schwab, was born Feb. 9, 1903 in the country of Bohemia. In 1923, she came to the United States and settled in the Webster City area.
On Feb. 22, 1930, she was married to John Hayungs at Woolstock. They farmed in the Woden area all of their married life, except for a period of time from 1930 to 1950, when they lived at Fort Dodge. They retired in 1960 and moved into Woden. In June of 1998, she moved to the Titonka Care Center.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for over 50 years where she belonged to WELCA, a woman's church group and had served on the prayer chain.
She is survived by her children, Carl Hayungs, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Harold Hayungs and his wife, Stella, of Britt; and Arlene Smith and her husband, Don, of Bella Vista, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Joyce Moellinger and her husband, Brent, and their children, Ashley and Brody; Linda Huggins and her husband, Tim, and their son, Jarod; Brian Hayungs and his wife, Karen, and their son, Jonathan; Gary Hayungs;Randy Hayungs; Sherri Logemann and her husband, Bruce, and their children, April and Amber; Paula Davis and her husband, Scott, and their son, Zachary;Debra Witten and her children, Stacey and Samantha; Denise Senn and her husband, Tom, and their children, Amanda and Aaron and Douglas Smith and his wife, Althea and their children, Alison, Derek and Daniel; and a sister, Mrs. Frances Sonius, of Woden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on April 18, 1980; her parents; five sisters and two brothers.

BELMOND - Marie Dirksen, 85, of Belmond, died Thursday (June 24, 1999) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church, in Alexander, with the Rev. Gerald Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home, in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

ESTHER M. HARMON
BELMOND - Esther M. Harmon, 79, died Thursday (June 24, 1999) at the Clarion Health Care Center, Clarion.
Private family memorial services will be held Monday, June 28, 1999, at the Blue Grass Cemetery , in Blue Grass.
There will be no visitation; her body was cremated.

PEARL WALTERS
MASON CITY - Pearl Walters, 91, of 718 N. Van Buren Ave., died Wednesday (June 23, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Richard "Rick" Eichenlaub officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church or Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.
Pearl was born Aug. 25, 1907 in Britt, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Hoff) Treganza. She attended school in Britt, then moved to Mason City in 1926.
Pearl married Carl L. Walters on Jan. 23, 1929 in Mason City. Pearl was a member of the First Christian Church for over 55 years where she was active in various church activities She enjoyed flower gardening and quilting.
Pearl is survived by her son, Donald D. Walters and his wife, Lucy, of Mason City; grandchildren, Jay Walters and his wife, Sharon, of Placentia, Calif., Scott Walters and his wife, Sheri, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jody Cornelius, of Cypress, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, Marissa, Chelsey, Kevin, Tyler, Eric and Madeline; and one niece, Elizabeth Frahm, of Cedar Falls.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters.
ANNE J. BREAR
GARNER - Anne J. Brear, 93, of Garner, passed away Thursday (June 24, 1999) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Daniel Bloesch officiating. Interment will be at Concord Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
Anne Josephine Brear, the daughter of Murdo M. and Carrie (Rolles) Murray, was born Feb. 6, 1906 at Haug, Minn. In 1912, she moved with her family to the Province of Manitoba in Canada, where they farmed for eight years and Anne attended elementary school. In April of 1921, the family returned to the United States and lived at Lancaster, Minn. Anne graduated from Lancaster High School in 1925 and in 1928 received her nursing degree from St. Luke's Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
On March 1, 1929, she was married to Nicholas E. Brear, of Garner, at Minneapolis, Minn. They established their home in Garner where they resided all of their married life, except for 19 months during World War II. For eight years they had spent their winters in Phoenix, Ariz. Anne had lived at Prairie View Apartments before moving to Concord Care Center due to ill health.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, since 1929, U.P.W. and P.E.O.
She is survived by her sister, Nora Perrizo and her husband, Charles, of Naples, Fla; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Murray, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four nephews; five nieces; and one grandniece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, N.E. Brear, on Feb. 7, 1986; her father, Murdo Murray on March 12, 1941; her mother, Carrie R. Murray, June 17, 1980; a sister, Blanche Murray in 1936; and two brothers, Ross Murray, in June of 1988 and Alex Murray in 1992.

HENRIETTA J. MEEK
GREENE - A funeral Mass for Henrietta I. Meek, 70, of 510 High Street, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 28, 1999, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , in Greene.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary service conducted by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Henrietta Irene Ackley was born June 12, 1929 in rural Marble Rock, Floyd County, a daughter of Harrison and Gertrude (Castle) Ackley, and died Thursday (June 24, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene, of cancer.
She received her education in the Marble Rock Public Schools graduating in 1946. As a young lady she worked at the Crabtree Restaurant in Greene.
On Oct. 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Wayne Meek at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. They made their home in Greene until 1960 when they moved to the home farm northeast of Greene. Henrietta helped farm and milk cows and raise her four children. In 1976 they returned to town when Wayne started working at the Farmers Coop and continued to farm.
In 1981, Henrietta started to work as a cook at the Greene High School until her retirement in 1991. Henrietta and Wayne celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1997.
Henrietta's most prized possession were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout the years Henrietta and Wayne followed their children and grandchildren's school and athletic activities.
Her interests included baking, bird watching, reading and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered for her potato salad, angel food cakes, and popcorn balls.
Living family members include her husband, Wayne, of Greene; three sons, Jerry and his friend Joni, of Greene; Jim and his wife, Pat, of Dows; and Jeff and his wife, Lisa, of Coon Rapids; one daughter, Jayne and her husband, Kenneth Knapp, of Greene; eight grandchildren, Rob, Lisa, John, Rick, Jamie, Brandie, and Dustie Meek and Heather Knapp; four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Dillon, Brianna and Nathan Meek; two sisters and their spouses, Margaret and Lester Hurd, of Nashua, and Beverly and Dick Woods, of Portland, Ore.; three brothers and their spouses, Roger and Marie Ackley, of Chillicothe, Ill., Kenneth and Mickey Ackley, of Dubuque, and Arthur and Mona Ackley, of New Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her son, Duane in 1948; her parents; and three sisters, Thelma Hayungs, Irma Snavley, and Wilma Marion.

MARBLE ROCK - Edward P. Merfeld, 85, died Saturday (June 26, 1999) at the Sunrise Care Center, Mason City.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, rural Marble Rock, with the Rev. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, with a scripture service at 7 p.m., followed by a rosary service.
