MICHAEL A. JOHNSON

GALT - Michael A. Johnson, 24, died Saturday (June 26, 1999) as a result of a drowning accident at Lake Cornelia, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsburg, with the Rev. William Keller officiating. Burial will be in the Galt Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

JEFFERY SCOTT MORANVILLE

CLEAR LAKE - Jeffery Scott Moranville, 23, of 913 Third Ave., died Monday (June 28, 1999) at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, (515) 357-2193.

LEO O'GORMAN

CALMAR - Leo O'Gorman, 89, died Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at St. Joseph's Hospital in New Hampton.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Calmar. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

French Funeral Home, Calmar, is in charge of all arrangements - (515) 562-3393.

RAY HEIT

CHARLES CITY - Roy Heit, 87, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City.

ELIZABETH HANSON

CLEAR LAKE - Elizabeth Hanson, 90, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 Fourth St. Clear Lake.

Other arrangements are incomplete at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel - (515) 357-2193.

WILBUR D. PALS

BELMOND - Wilbur D. Pals, 69, passed away Monday (June 28, 1999) at his home in rural Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blemond, with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dugger-Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.

Wilbur, the son of John D. L. and Tena (Sandman) Pals was born Dec. 3, 1929, near Alexander, Iowa. He grew up in the Alexander area where he attended Pleasant Township No. 6 Country School. He then attended junior high in Alexander and high school in Clarion. Wilbur graduated from Clarion High School in 1949.

After high school, Wilbur lived his entire farming life southeast of Belmond. He would later care for his mother and father in their later years. Wilbur was both active in livestock and grain farming, he also enjoyed reading.

Wilbur was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond where he was baptized and confirmed.

Wilbur is survived by two sisters, Helen Schnittjer and her husband, Edward, of Clarion, and Mary Isaacson and her husband, Lenvil, of Melbourne; four brothers, Arthur Pals and his wife, Marjorie, of Dows, George Pals of Rowan, Herbert Pals of Belmond, and Jerry Pals and his wife, Eileen, of Belmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

JEFFERY SCOTT MORANVILLE

CLEAR LAKE - Jeffery Scott Moranville, 23, of 913 Third Ave. S., died Monday (June 28, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey of First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, and the Rev. John Chambers of Grace Church in Enid, Okla., officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Jeff Moranville Memorial Fund of the Clear Lake Adult Softball Association, P. O. Box 62, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

Jeff was born July 14, 1975, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Barbara Kafer and Barry Moranville. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1994. He enjoyed playing football and baseball while in high school. He won the state punt, pass and kick contest in the 12-year-old bracket.

Following high school, Jeff moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he meet Melissa in 1996. They moved to Clear Lake in September 1998. He was in the manager training program for Glick Supply Co. in Iowa Falls and then in March 1999, he opened and managed Glick Supply Co. in Clear Lake. He also worked part-time at Rookies.

Jeff married Melissa Chambers Morelock April 24, 1999, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake.

Jeff was an avid new York Yankee's and Forty Niner's fan. He enjoyed playing softball on the Rookies team, listening to music, traveling and his play station. He was always competitive in whatever he did. He was a member of the Grip and Rip Club.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Melissa Chambers Moranville, Clear Lake; his mother, Barbara Potkonak and her husband, Dan, Marshalltown; his father, Barry Moranville, Des Moines; mother-in-law, Letitia Chambers, Washington, D.C.; father-in-law, Stephen Morelock, Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Danny Moranville and his wife, Debbie, Marshalltown, and Dan Potkonak and his wife, Mary Jo, Iowa Falls; one sister, Debbie McDonald and her husband, Matt, Scranton; grandparents, Jean Moranville, Grand Junction, Iowa, Oliver and Marge Murphy, Jefferson, and Margaret Potkonak, Council Bluffs; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dale Moranville and Patricia Holsclaw; and one niece, Kayla Jean Moranville.

FORREST F. RODE

TITONKA - Forrest F. Rode, 79, died Wednesday (June 30, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Titonka, with the Rev. Virtus Stofferegen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EVELYN P. LOSEE

MASON CITY - Evelyn P. Losee, 74, of 929 16th St. N.E., died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Arne C. Bergland officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery , Marble Rock.

There will be no visitation, her body was cremated at Major-Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

The family suggests memorials to the Evelyn P. Losee Memorial Fund.

Evelyn P. Losee was born March 20, 1925, the daughter of Edward and Amelia (Lippert) Bartels in Ute. Evelyn attended school in Graettinger, and she then moved with her family to Charles City. Evelyn married Earl Losee in Charles City. They lived in Sheffield, Algona and Rockwell. Evelyn also helped her husband run the locker in Rockwell. She then worked as a unit secretary at North Iowa Mercy Health Center for 18 years, retiring in 1995. Earl and Evelyn moved to Mason City in 1991. Evelyn enjoyed gardening and flowers and traveling to see her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting Precious Moments. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Earl R. Losee, Mason City; three daughters, Carolyn Uhlenhake, Urbandale, Diane Fortsch, Weatherford, Texas, and Tamara Petermeier and husband, Mark, Weatherford, Texas; two sons, Earl Dean Losee and wife, Cindy, Nixa, Mo., and Michael Losee of Mason City; 12 grandchildren, Trent, Travis, Tracy, Corey, Peter, Molly, Toby, Sarah, Brian, Austin, Tyler and Joshua; five great-grandchildren, Shayna, Spencer, Chelsea, Jenna and Hanna; two sisters, Alice Ogle and husband, Lloyd, of Evansdale, and Pauline Shave of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marilyn; a son in infancy, Roger; a granddaughter, Katie; and a brother, Edgar.

DONALD R. BAKER

MITCHELL, S.D. - Donald R. Baker, 61, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at North Ridge Baptist Church, Mitchell, S.D. Will Funeral Home in Mitchell is in charge of arrangements.

Donald R. Baker was born Feb. 6, 1938, at Fort Dodge, the son of Cecil R. "Red" and Velma P. "Babe" (Umsted) Baker. He attended and graduated from LuVerne High School in 1956. He graduated from Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, in 1960. Don served in the United States Army for two years. He resided in Mitchell, S.D., for the past 25 years, where he owned the Don Baker Insurance Agency.

Survivors include his wife, Cathie Baker, of Mitchell, S.D.; daughters, Diane Shanafelt and husband, Charlie, and their four children, of Sioux City, Donna Haines and her three children of Sioux City, and Jennifer Koehler and husband, Fred, and their two children of Rapid City, S.D.; a son, Brad Baker, of Minneapolis; his mother, Babe Baker, of Mason City; a sister, Karen Bird and husband, Jim, of Mason City; a brother, Mick Baker and wife, Sally, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Red Baker, on May 24, 1994.

RAYMOND W. "RAY" HEIT

CHARLES CITY - Raymond W. "Ray" Heit, 87, of Charles City, and formerly of New Hampton, died Tuesday (June 29, 1999) at the Ninth St. Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m., and a parish vigil wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
