JOHN W. AIRD
CHARLES CITY - John W. Aird, 88, of 2625 210th St., died Saturday morning (July 3, 1999) at his home.
Funeral services for John Aird will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Diane Christopher, senior pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City.
Visitation was held Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home, and will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services today.
John William Aird was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Plymouth County, Seney, Iowa, the son of William M. and Lydia Whitman Aird. He attended school at Orchard and graduated from Floyd High School in 1930. On Oct. 16, 1935, he and Doris Bucknell were married at Charles City.
He was employed by the McRoberts Dodge Garage for 10 years, owned and operated the Ellendale Dairy, in partnership, until 1965, and retired from Salsbury Laboratories in 1976.
John was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Farm Bureau, and the Modern Woodmen of America. He was a member of the Charles City Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years, serving as assistant chief. He was also a member of the Iowa Fireman's Association.
John was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He followed the Charles City Comettes' softball team for many years. Following his retirement, he delivered both Meals on Wheels and library books to shut-ins.
Living family members include his wife, Doris, of Charles City; a daughter, Karla Breed, of LeGrand; two sons and their wives, Alan and Colleen, of Floyd, and Andy and Lori, of Charles City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Jean and Ed Clark, of Minneapolis, Irene Kobernus, of New Richland, Minn., and Dorothy Raskob and Mary Eckhoff, both of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a sister, Lois Merten.
Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City Satellite or the Trinity United Methodist Church.

PAUL ROBERT MUELLER
CLIVE - Funeral services for Paul Robert Mueller, 52, of 1256 NW 92nd St., will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Caldwell Raddatz Hickman Chapel, in Urbandale. Private burial will be at a later date.
Paul Robert Mueller, the youngest child of Harold and Marcie Mueller, was born Dec. 9, 1946, in Mason City. He spent his youth living on a farm outside of Manly. Paul attended North Central High School, where he participated in many school activities, including senior class president and captain of the football team.
Paul graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural business in 1969. He married Roma L. Clabaugh on Sept. 3, 1969. Paul served in the United States Army from 1969-1971. During his time in the service, Paul and Roma spent a year in South Korea and traveled throughout Asia. In 1972, Paul had the double honor of receiving his master's degree in agricultural economics and becoming a father for the first time.
After earning his degree, Paul worked for the United States Department of Agriculture in Nashville, Tenn. He then returned to Iowa in 1974 to work as a research director for the Iowa Development Commission. In 1978, Paul began a career in real estate and opened his own company in 1983. His successful career in real estate expanded from selling residential properties to acquiring rental and investment properties. He especially enjoyed renovating distressed properties.
Paul developed a love of soccer in 1980 while coaching his son, Jason. He was involved with the Greater Des Moines Soccer League in both youth and adult soccer. He especially enjoyed playing "Over the Hill" soccer.
Paul retired from business and soccer after becoming ill in 1997. Paul died Sunday (July 4, 1999) at 52 years of age after a long struggle with lung cancer. During his illness, Paul taught his family and friends courage and strength in the face of adversity.
Paul will be remembered for his dedication to family and friends, his kind and generous nature and his integrity in all aspects of his life.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Roma; his daughter, Kristin, of Des Moines; his son, Jason, of New Orleans; his mother, Marcie, of Mason City; a brother, Gene and his wife, Helen, of Manly; a brother, Ray and his wife, Kathy, of Evergreen, Colo.; a sister, Mary Griffith, of Towson, Md.; and in-laws, Duane and JoEllen Bramson, of Gainesville, Mo.; Ronald and Karen Knudston, of Mason City; Richard and Sherry Myers, of Mesa, Ariz.; Bill and Roxanna Clabaugh, of Carson City, Nev.; and Gary Clabaugh, of Klemme; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Mueller; and his brother, Don Mueller.
PAUL C. DAUGHERTY
MASON CITY - Paul C. Daugherty, 77, of 901 Eighth St. N.E., died Sunday (July 4, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Sharon Betsworth, of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , with full Military rites by the Mason City Memorial Association.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory and until time of services on Wednesday.
Memorials may be given to the Paul C. Daugherty Memorial Fund.
Paul Clark Daugherty was born north of Havre, Mont. on July 20, 1921, the first son of Clyde and Vena (Latimer) Daugherty. The family lived in Canada, Mo., then settled in Des Moines, where Paul received his formal education, grading from East High School.
During World War II, Paul entered the Navy in 1943. Serving active duty in both the European and Asiatic Theaters, he was discharged in 1946. Upon his discharge, he was employed with Rock Island Motor Transit. Later, he was employed by Thompson Motor Freight and then by the Mason City School District, retiring in 1984.
He was married to Tonita Tade on Dec. 8, 1945, at Kirksville, Mo. To this union, one son was born, Paul Albert.
Paul and his wife spent many happy years pursuing his hobbies of building and woodworking.
He held life members in the National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the U.S. Naval Institute, and was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Tonita Daugherty, of Mason City; son, Paul A. Daugherty and his wife, DeLaine, of Cedar Falls; sister, Della E. McKinney and husband, Marion, of Mason City; brother, William P. Daugherty and his wife, Stella and their son, Timothy, all of Hobgood, N.C.; sister, Margaret L. Hauser, and her husband, Clifford, of Cresco; brother, Donald Daugherty, of Indianola; two nephews; one great-nephew; and four great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Vena; one niece, Susan McKinney; and one nephew, James Kongable.

MICHAEL E. CANNON
NORA SPRINGS - Michael E. Cannon, 46, of Nora Springs, died Saturday (July 3, 1999) at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.
Michael Earl Cannon was born Nov. 14, 1952, at Mason City, the son of Earl and Clarice (Gorkowski) Cannon. He graduated from Mason City High School and later graduated from Mankato (Minn.) State College.
He owned and operated his own business, AVM, in Cedar Rapids for several years.
Michael enjoyed watching Viking games, especially when they were playing the Bears. He also liked planning woodworking projects.
He loved spending time with his two sons, Alan and Andrew, especially on their trips to Texas where they spent time at many museums and historical sites.
He was a past member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also the Hemophilia of Iowa Association.
Survivors include his two sons, Alan and Andrew Cannon, both of Traer; his mother, Clarice Cannon, of Mason City; three sisters, Diane Trimble and her husband, Jim, of Mason City, Kay Ostmo and her husband, Ken, of Tulsa, Okla., and Beverly Ostmo and her husband, David, of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father in 1993.
