CARL CHRISTIANSEN

TITONKA - Carl Christiansen, 79, of Titonka, died Saturday (July 10, 1999) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Titonka. Burial will be at a later date in the Buffalo Township Cemetery , Titonka.

Visitation will be held from noon until time of services on Wednesday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

REBECCA D. 'BECKY' JOHNSON

BEAMAN - Rebecca D. "Becky" Johnson, 58, of 207 Wadeloupe, Beaman, Iowa, and formerly of Mason City and Clear lake, died Friday (July 9, 1999) at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, from injuries suffered in an automobile/motorcycle accident.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland, Visitation Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the family.

Rebecca Dawn Johnson was born June 24, 1941, in Mason City, the daughter of Neil and Delores (Kelley) Johnson. she attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1959.

She worked briefly at a local dime store in Mason City. For many years, she waitressed at many establishments in the Clear Lake and Mason City areas. She then moved to Beaman, where she was employed at Ritchie's Manufacturing at the time of her death.

Becky enjoyed crafts, flowers, gardening, pool and dart league, rummage sale and auctions. She collected dishes and antiques. Becky also enjoyed the many trips she took on the motorcycle. Her special time of year was Christmas, and she loved working on that project throughout the year.

Those thankful for sharing her life include her son, Dirk L. Johnson, of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Dennis L. Johnson, of Mankato, Minn.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; one niece and two nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her companion of 20 years, Alvin Eggena, of Beaman and his family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

NEWELLA MARJORIE ENGH

KANAWHA - Newella Marjorie Engh, 98, passed away Sunday (July 11, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital, at Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Keith Sievers officiating. Interment will be in the Norway Township Cemetery , Kanawha.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Kanawha, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Newella, the daughter of Olaf and Carrie Johnson Thompson was born on Dec. 9, 1900 near Belmond. At the age three, she moved with her parents to a farm north and east of Kanawha. She attended rural school near the family farm. She was united in marriage with Emery Newman on Oct. 5, 1921 in Kanawha. The couple farmed in the Kanawha area until 1976, when they retired and moved into Kanawha.

She was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the Boone Township Womens Club. Newella enjoyed sewing and was considered by many as a expert seamstress. She was able to maintain her own home until June 10, 1999 at which time she became a resident of the Kanawha Community Home.

Survivors include a son, Donald and wife, Mildred Engh, of Kanawha; a daughter, Lois Lind, of Marathon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Mildred Hanson, of Albert Lea; Lula Nepstad, of Batavia, Ill.; Esther Engh, of Eagle Grove; and Maxine Evans, of Kanawha.

Newella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emery on Jan. 4, 1993; a son, Clifford and his wife, Doreen Halfpop Engh on Dec. 24, 1973; a son-in-law, LeRoy Lind, along with three sisters and three brothers.

JANESE L. WING

MASON CITY - Janese L. Wing, 50, of 1516 N. Carolina Place, died Friday (July 9, 1999) at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S. E., Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

The family suggests memorials to the Janese L. Wing Memorial Fund.

Janese was born in Charles City on Aug. 12, 1948, to Clifton "Butch" and Virginia "Jiggs" Nickerson, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She spent her childhood in Charles City and Mason City before moving to Fort Dodge and graduating from Fort Dodge High School.

Janese married Bruce Wing Jan. 15, 1967 at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua and to this union were born two daughters. Janese and Bruce would later divorce.

Janese was employed by Hy-Vee Floral and will be long time remembered for her talents decorating almost anything, whether it be a room, a house, a wedding reception, or just a little wooden bird house. She loved people and was always willing to go that extra mile to make people happy. Janese also adored animals and her loving care for the multitudes of animals she adopted out from the Humane Society will never be forgotten.

Her many hours of work at the Community Kitchen will be remembered fondly by everyone who worked with her and was served by her, because she made everyone she encountered feel special and very dear to her. Her talent with a calligraphy pen will be missed by St. James's new mothers, new brides and grooms, confirmants, and anyone losing a loved one.

Janese was preceded in death by her father, Butch Nickerson.

She will be sorely missed by survivors, including her mother, Virginia Nickerson of Mason City; and her two daughters, Kim Tilkes and husband, Aaron, of Mason City, and Kris Wade and husband, Jon, of Houston, Texas. Janese also has adorable twin grandbabies, Bailey and Brady Tilkes who will greatly miss her loving touch. She is also survived by her former husband, Bruce Wing, of Minneapolis, Minn.

ARTHUR J. ARNDORFER

ST. BENEDICT - Arthur J. "Art" Arndorfer, 83, died Sunday (July 11, 1999).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, where a parish rosary will be held at 3 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

DARLA JEAN MILLER

CLEBURNE, Texas - Services for Darla Jean Miller, 56, of Cleburne, were held Wednesday, July 7, in Martin's Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Carroll Alderman officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Aston, Martin "Nooner" Griffith, Bill Nix, James Young, Mark Reinhardt and Rick Goon.

Mrs. Miller died Sunday (July 4, 1999) in Cleburne.

She was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Cleburne, the daughter of Eldon and Opal Keeton Kouns. She married Ronald Miller in Cleburne on Jan. 29, 1978. She was a lifetime resident of Cleburne.

Mrs. Miller was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Cleburne Independent School District. She later earned her degree in nursing. She worked as a licensed vocational nurse at Johnson County Memorial Hospital and Walls Regional Hospital.

She loved her work, family and her ceramic pig collection numbering over 500.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Miller, of Cleburne; two sons, Billy Henderson, of Cleburne and Craig Miller, of Meridian; four daughters, Kristi Carlton, of Cleburne, Angi Carlton, of Bedford, Ronda Quintana, of Waxahachie and Karan Allen, of Knoxville, Tenn.; her mother, Opal Kouns, of Cleburne; one brother, Gordon Young, of Terrell; one sister, Betty Alexander, of Fort Worth; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice.

LEONA CHAMBERS

CEDAR FALLS - Leona Chambers, 89, of 303 Lincoln St., formerly of Charles City, died Monday (July 12, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Todd Yeaton, pastor of the First Baptist Church, of Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery , Charles City.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, and 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

MASON CITY - Timothy Dean Smith Sr., 33, of 430 First St. N.E., died Monday (July 12, 1999) in a motor vehicle accident.
