EDITH DUNCOMB

ST. ANSGAR - Edith Duncomb, 94, of St. Ansgar, passed away on Tuesday (July 13, 1999) at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery , Riceville.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.

Edith (Powell) Duncomb was born in Hamilton County, Illinois, Sept. 9, 1904, to Joseph and Laura (Dill) Powell. She received her education in rural schools in Illinois and Iowa, graduating from Jolly High School in Jolly, before her marriage to Ralph Duncomb, of Riceville, in 1929.

She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She and Ralph farmed in Mitchell County until moving to St. Ansgar in 1966. Edith became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in 1997.

Edith is survived by her eight children, Grace Nelson and her husband, LaVerne, of St. Ansgar, Laura Hoverson of Austin, Minn., Richard Duncomb and his wife, Patricia, of St. Ansgar, Kenneth Duncomb of Kearney, Mo., Marietta Steward and her husband, LeRoy, of Stacyville, Robert Duncomb and his wife, Deloris, of Denver, Colo., Lawrence Duncomb and his wife, Mary, of St. Ansgar, and Janet Erickson of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Opal Peters and her husband, Ronald, of LeRoy, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Loretta Powell, of Mason City; 24 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Selma Powell; a brother, Ernest Powell; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Marlene (Steward) Duncomb; a son-in-law, Bob Christopherson; a son-in-law, Harvey Hoverson; two grandchildren, Jeff Duncomb and Peter Duncomb; and three great-grandchildren.

MARTHA A. ECKHARDT

MASON CITY - Martha A. Eckhardt, 93, of Mason City, died Wednesday (July 14, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating. Burial will take place at a later time in Sheffield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in memory of Martha A. Eckhardt.

Martha A. Eckhardt was born June 6, 1906, the daughter of Ludwig and Bertha (Bridesbecker) Eckhardt. She received her education from schools in Sheffield and graduated from Hamilton Business College in 1925. She was employed by Equitable Life of Iowa Insurance Company for 46 years, retiring in 1971.

She was a member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club and served as president for many years. After retiring, she spent time with her family. She loved working in the yard and was an avid quilter and crafter. She left many treasures with her family through her crafts and her deeds. With them, she shared a great deal of love.

She was also an avid sports fan, always keeping track of her favorite baseball teams, the Twins and the Cubs, and her favorite football teams, the Buffalo Bills and the Vikings.

Martha was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 30 years and very active at church bazaars.

Those left to cherish her memory are a very special nephew, Ron Eckhardt and his wife, LaDonna, of Mason City; special great-niece, Cally Isaacson, of Mason City; special great-nephews, Marty Eckhardt and his wife, Jody, of Mason City and Larry Eckhardt and his wife, Mindy, of Greene; five special great-great-nieces and nephews, Debi, David, Jessica, Nathaniel and Nicolas; special nieces, Ruth Thompson and her husband, Duane and family, of Lakeville, Minn., and Sandy Palmer, of Hampton; several other nieces and nephews and family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.

CURTIS RASMUSSEN

GARNER - Curtis Rasmussen, 80, of Garner, died Thursday (July 15, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner.

NORMAN TRUMAN MIELKE JR.

OSAGE - Norman Truman Mielke Jr., 58, of Osage, died Thursday (July 15, 1999) at Lake City, Minn., as a result of a traffic accident.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. The body will be cremated following the service and inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Norman was born Feb. 8, 1941, at Winona, Minn., the son of Norman Truman Mielke Sr. and Dorthea (Mielke) Mielke. He attended St. Paul, Minn., schools and graduated from St. Paul Monroe High School in 1959.

He attended Wartburg College in Waverly and graduated in 1963. He taught school at Greene for three years and moved to Osage in 1967 and taught at Osage Middle School until his death.

He is survived by his mother, Dorthea Mielke of St. Paul, Minn.; one daughter, Nicole Paulson and her husband, Rick, of White Bear Township, Minn.; two sons, Eric Mielke of New Hope, Minn., and Todd Mielke of Chicago, Ill.; two grandsons, Derek Paulson and Zachary Paulson; one brother, Wayne Mielke and his wife, Terry, of Prior Lake, Minn.; and two nieces, Kimberly Mielke and Kristin Beckers.

He was preceded in death by his father.

JULIA L. MULLER

OSAGE - Julia L. Muller, 82, of Osage, died Friday (July 16, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Chris F. Gugel officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m.

Julia was born April 21, 1917, on the family farm near Mitchell, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Zarling) Koschmeder. She was baptized on July 1, 1917, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Township, Mitchell County, and was confirmed on March 29, 1931, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. She attended rural school, where she graduated.

Julia married Elmer Muller on Jan. 16, 1946, at a Lutheran church in St. Paul, Minn. They lived in the Osage area their entire married life. Elmer died in 1971.

Julia was employed at the White House Nursing Home as the laundry supervisor until she retired.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Osage.

She is survived by one son, Terry Muller of Osage; one daughter, Connie Pell of Mason City; one daughter-in-law, Judy Muller of Osage; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a special friend, Edna Tibbets.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; one son, Robert Muller; and four brothers and eight sisters.

CURTIS RASMUSSEN

GARNER - Curtis Rasmussen, 80, of Garner, died Thursday (July 15, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with the Rev. Willis Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery , Garner.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Curtis Herman Rasmussen, the son of Carl and Amelia (Envoldsen) Rasmussen, was born April 17, 1919, on farm north of Garner. He graduated from Garner High School in 1937. Curtis farmed most of his life on the home farm north of Garner.

On Aug. 31, 1947, he married Ardean Monson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He enjoyed his family and farming.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he had served as a trustee, the North Garner Community Club, North Iowa Travelers Club and the Garner Rotary Club. He had also been a 4-H leader and board member of the Garner Livestock Association.

He is survived by his wife, Ardean Rasmussen, of Garner; a daughter, Lynn Stanley of Waterloo; a son, Richard Rasmussen and his wife, Roxy, of Piedmont, S.D.; a former daughter-in-law, Holly Rasmussen of Garner; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Stanley of Reinbeck, Erin Stanley of Waterloo, Kyle Stanley of Waterloo and Heather Rasmussen, Heidi Rasmussen, Hannah Rasmussen, Raquel Rasmussen and Ryan Rasmussen, all of Garner; a brother, Marvin Rasmussen and his wife, Marnie, of Orinda, Calif.; two sisters, Norma Furquron and her husband, George, of Fallbrooks, Calif., and Arline Naugle, of Escondido, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Hopes, of Britt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
