ETHEL LACKORE

GARNER - Ethel Lackore, 87, of Garner, died Friday (July 16, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller, with the Rev. Owen Gaasedelen as officiant. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Ethel Louisa Lackore, the daughter of John and Flora (Hesley) Grell was born March 16, 1912, on a farm near Thompson. She attended rural schools in Cerro Gordo County and then graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1931. On Oct. 14, 1933, she was married to Clayton Delbert Lackore at the Methodist parsonage in Clear Lake. They farmed in the Hayfield area until 1974, when they retired from active farming and moved into Hayfield. In 1992, she moved to Prairie View Apartments. Ethel enjoyed her family and entertaining friends. Her hobbies included sewing, music and making rag dolls and quilts. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Progressive Club, the G.G. Club, and her coffee group.

She is survived by her son, Eugene Lackore and his wife, Donna, of Garner; her daughter, Roberta Lackore/Raddatz and her husband, Dale, of New Albin; eight grandchildren, Renee Sweers and her husband, Fred, and their children, Jessica, Christine, Josiah and Gabriel, Linda Tuttle and her husband, Tim, and their children, Rachel, Mitchell and Isaac, Lisa May and her husband, Ed, and their children, Sharayah and Joshua, Ryan Drewes, Ashley Drewes, Jeffrey Raddatz and his wife, Angela, and their daughter, Talia, Curtis Raddatz and Amanda Raddatz; two brothers, Oliver Schram and his wife, Beth, of West Union, and Reuben Grell and his wife, Betty, of Clear Lake; three sisters, Viola Dolch and her husband, Dan, of Onancock, Va., Frances Robbins and her husband, Wendell, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Velmadeen Shaw of Evansdale; a brother-in-law, John Kester of Marshalltown; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Lackore of Garner, and Joyce Schram of Brainard, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Lackore, Aug. 13, 1986; her parents; a sister, Myrtle Bowlin; and four brothers, Floyd Schram, Merle Schram, Roy Schram, and Orville Grell.

GRACE L. FLETCHER

CLARION - Grace L. Fletcher, 100, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at the Community Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ Congregational, Clarion, with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery , Rowan.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

HERMAN W. DRALLE

ALLISON - Herman W. Dralle, 89, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at the Allison Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Allison, with the Rev. Jerry Laehn officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's EV Lutheran Cemetery , rural Greene.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

ANNA MARIE NODLAND

CLARION - Anna Marie Nodland, 107, died Friday (July 16, 1999) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Eagle Grove.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

REV. MSGR. ARTHUR A. HALBACH

DUBUQUE - Rev. Msgr. Arthur A. Halbach, 97, of 3485 Windsor Ave., a retired priest in the Archdiocese of Dubuque, died Thursday (July 15, 1999) at Stonehill Care Center.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Raphael Cathedral, with Archbishop Jerome Hanus O.S.B. officiating. Burial will be in the Resurrection Garden Mausoleum, Mount Calvary Cemetery , Dubuque.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. today at St. Raphael Cathedral, where a rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and a wake service at 7 p.m. Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur A. Halbach was born Sept. 8, 1901, in Stacyville, the son of Peter and Mary (Brumm) Halbach. He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque and received his theological training at the Sulpician Seminary at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was ordained May 21, 1932, by Archbishop Francis J. L. Beckman. His first assignment was as associate pastor at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville, 1932-38. He taught at the former Columbia Academy from 1938 to 1941. In 1941, he began graduate studies at Fordham University in New York and the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Upon completion of his doctorate, he taught at Loras College, 1946-50.

He served as head of the archdiocesan school system from 1950 to 1953. He returned to Loras College for one year, 1953-54. He served as pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Webster City, 1954-66, and St. John Parish in Delhi from 1966 until his retirement in 1976.

In 1965, he was appointed dean of the Eagle Grove Deanery. He was named a Monsignor in 1952. He served as Clarke College chaplain in 1947; director of cemeteries, 1950-53; spiritual director of the A.C.C.W., 1950-53. He also served as archdiocesan director of the Apostleship of Prayer and director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, both until 1953.

Survivors include a brother, John (Rose) Halbach of Cedar Falls; and a sister, Agnes Buch of Elgin, Ill.

INEZ B. BAKKETUN

NORTHWOOD - Inez B. Bakketun, 90, of 800 10th St. N., Maple Court, Northwood, died Friday (July 16, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood. The Rev. Al Stoa and the Rev. Paul Homer will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery , Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Conner Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials may be given in her name.

Inez was born March 25, 1909, in rural Joice, the daughter of Otis and Clara (Savre) Gordon. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1927. She continued her education and obtained her teacher's certificate. She taught rural school in Worth and Winnebago counties.

On July 7, 1929, she was united in marriage with Morris Bakketun in Lake Mills. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Northwood.

Inez enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing bridge and her grandchildren.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood. She was a charter member of Fidelis Study Club and was a 59-year member of the Iowa Federation of Women's Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Swenson and her husband, Lee, of Northwood, and Mary Henry of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Scott Swenson and his wife, Teresa of Coralville, Laurie Welsh of Northwood, Kevin Henry of Minneapolis, Shellie Rasmussen of Boise, Idaho, and David Swenson and his wife, Michelle, of Austin, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Kristine Swenson, Jacob Swenson, Kelli Welsh and Allison Swenson; three brothers, Roy Gordon and his wife, Alice, of San Clemente, Calif., Orville Gordon and his wife, Dorothy, of Clear Lake, and Don Gordon and his wife, Ruth, of Normal, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Janice Gordon of Albert lea, Minn., and Charlotte McLaughlin of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Morris on Sept. 1, 1985; a son, Lyle Bakketun; three sisters, Kirjah, Florence and Hazel; and two brothers, Theorine and Warren.

DOROTHY I. 'DOTTIE' BAKER

MASON CITY - Dorothy I. "Dottie" Baker, 76, died Friday (July 16, 1999) at her home.

JOHN E. HUMPHREY

GARNER - John E. Humphrey, 90, of Garner, died Sunday (July 18, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Interment will be at Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

ANNA BELLE BRIGGS

ALGONA - Anna Belle Briggs, 70, died Sunday (July 18, 1999) at the Algona Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be held at 3 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

A.C. 'CHET' ANDERSEN

CRESCO - A.C. "Chet" Andersen, 77, of rural Cresco, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, Cresco, with a military flag presentation. Cremation will follow the services.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and before services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Chet was born Feb. 3, 1922, at Clear Lake, the son of Christian and Marie Andersen. He graduated from high school and entered the Navy during World War II. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. Chet was united in marriage to Ardith Fitzgerald on Dec. 22, 1949, and they farmed following their marriage, moving to the Cresco area in 1972.

Survivors include his daughter, Loretta Waters of Plymouth; three sons, Michael of Apple Valley, Minn., Mark of Skiatook, Okla., and Eric of Lime Springs; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Peterson of Algona and Margaret Congleton of Wellesley Hills, Mass.; and two brothers, Myron Andersen and Chris Andersen, both of Houston, Texas.

He as preceded in death by his parents and wife.

JOHN HARTMAN

ALLISON - John Hartman, 90, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at the Shell Rock Care Center, Shell Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Allison, with the Rev. Jerry Laehn officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Allison.
