FLORENCE HUNTBATCH

ROCKWELL - Florence Huntbatch, 75, of Rockwell, passed away Thursday (Aug. 12, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Swaledale, with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery , Swaledale.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Florence Dannen was born Oct. 26, 1923, daughter of Otto and Mattie (Abbas) Dannen, near Latimer. She married Gibson Huntbatch.

Florence was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their sports.

Survivors include son, Dennis and wife, Betty; daughter, Joanne Price and her husband, Ron, all of Rockwell; four grandchildren, Scott and Nicole Huntbatch and Holli Rae and Dustin Price; and a special great-grandson, Jaylen James Price; one brother, Else Dannen, of Mason City; one sister, Viola Jaspersen and her husband, Harold, of Thornton; and many nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Gibson; her parents; one brother, Engle Dannen; and one sister, Marie Proctor.

MEREL H. ENGEBRETSON

VINJE - Funeral services for Merel H. Engebretson, 81, of Vinje, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel Lutheran Church, Vinje, with the Rev. Dani Jo Ninke-Greaver officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery , Vinje.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Merel Harlan Engebretson, a good Christian man of 81 years, left his earthly home Wednesday (Aug. 11, 1999) to be with his Heavenly Father. He leaves behind a legacy of high morals, integrity and the respect of his family, friends and neighbors.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1918, to Hans and Ella (Peterson) Engebretson on the family Century Farm near Vinje, Iowa. He lived on or near this farm all his life.

He attended country school at Logan No. 2, north of Vinje and also Lake Mills High School.

He was baptized at, confirmed and attended Bethel Lutheran Church at Vinje of which he was a faithful member serving in various positions of office.

Merel farmed all of his life, worked for the ASCS Office in Thompson, Iowa, was a dealer for Jacques Seed Corn, was active in community affairs, served as Logan Township trustee, was a driver for the Lake Mills Ambulance Service, enjoyed bus tours, fishing, reading, and bowling. He loved watching all sports, particularly games his grandchildren were a part of. Merel loved to tease and had a unique sense of humor. He was also very proud of his Norwegian Heritage.

Merel was united in marriage to Darlyne G. Johnson at the Lutheran parsonage in Scarville, Iowa on July 29, 1945.

He is survived by his wife, Darlyne, of Vinje; five children, Mary Engebretson, of Mobile, Ala., Darrel and his wife, Liz Engebretson, of Des Plaines, Ill., Deb and husband, Steve Roberts, of Lake Mills, Pamela and husband, Al Divan, of Scarville, Wendy and husband, Mike Nesset, of Garner; nine grandchildren, Stacy, Jeremy, Jason, Craig, Josh, Sarah, Jake, Jess and Jeff; two brothers, Harold and his wife, Bernice Engebretson and Harris Engebretson, both of Scarville; one sister, Elaine and her husband, Bob Rebelein, of Kiester, Minn.; his mother-in-law, Jeanette Bergland, of Lake Mills; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Merel was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Marlene Diane in infancy; one infant granddaughter, Angela; two brothers, Clarence and Gayler; and one sister, Elsie.

MARTHA GRACE DALLAS

MASON CITY - Martha Grace Dallas, 80, of 5 North Federal Ave., died Wednesday (Aug. 11, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Pamela J. Flanigan officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Her wish was cremation. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Martha Grace Dallas Memorial Fund.

Martha was born March 25, 1919, at Leonard, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Martha (Bodde) Kramer. She attended school in Leonard. Martha was married to Robert B. Dallas on Feb. 9, 1940 at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Mason City.

She worked for and owned several restaurants in the area. She also sold insurance for several years for the Hawkeye National Life Insurance Company.

Martha was an avid card player and enjoyed people, antiques and politics. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Katherine "Kay" Hays and her husband, Bryan, of South Bend, Ind.; son, Jim Dallas and his wife, Molly, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Martie Dallas and fiance, Rick Schuning, of Waukesha, Wis.; son, John Dallas and his wife, Denelle, of Mason City; grandchildren, Michele Ligas and her husband, John, of Woodbury, Minn., Erin Dallas, of Houston, Texas, Katie Peterson, of Waukesha, Wis., Emily Peterson, of Waukesha, Wis., Michael Dallas, of Mason City and Mackenzie Dallas, of Mason City; great-granddaughter, Brynn Ligas, of Woodbury, Minn.; sisters, Gertrude Oeltjenbruns, of Mason City, Ann Mason, of Mason City, Lucy Ericson and her husband, Al, of Tuscon, Ariz., and Betty Theesfeld and her husband, Ed, of Mason City; brothers, Ben Kramer and his wife, Jean, of Mason City, and Gary Kramer and his wife, Elizabeth, of North Powder, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters.

JOHN 'JACK' NELSON

LAKE MILLS - John "Jack" Nelson, 91, of Lake Mills, died Thursday (Aug. 12, 1999) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lake Mills Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alf Merseth officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Mills Synod Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the Lake Mills Evangelical Lutheran Church.

EARL M. POST

CHARLES CITY - Earl M. Post, 78, of 802 N. Illinois St., died Thursday (Aug. 12, 1999) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Gospel Lighthouse, Floyd, with the Rev. Paul Phillips officiating.

There will be no visitation. His body was cremated. Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

PAUL PARRO

LELAND - Paul Parro, 89, of Leland, died Thursday (Aug. 12, 1999) at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Grand Meadow, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, with Father Craig Steimel officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, with a 7 p.m. scripture service.

MINNIE EMMA RUSSELL

MASON CITY - Minnie Emma Russell, 86, of The Willows, No. 211, died Thursday (Aug. 12, 1999) at her home.

A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery , with the Rev. Joel Dahlen of Our Savior's Lutheran Church officiating.

There will be no visitation. According to Minnie's wishes, her body was cremated. Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

DONALD EDWARD RASMUSSEN

MASON CITY - Donald Edward Rasmussen, 73, of Mason City, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center.

There will be no services. According to his wishes, Donald's body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Anatomy, Iowa City.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Edward Rasmussen was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Mason City, the son of Martin Edward and Anne Rasmussen.

Donald served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on Oct. 20, 1946.

On Jan. 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Luetta Lucas in Mason City. He enjoyed gardening, collecting tools and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Luetta Rasmussen, of Mason City; four children, Tim Rasmussen, of Minneapolis, Becky Peel, of Houston, Texas, Martin Rasmussen and his wife, Deb, of Henderson, Nev., and Ron Rasmussen and his wife, Beth, of Mason City; grandchildren, Kolton and Kendall Rasmussen, of Mason City, Katie Rasmussen, of Henderson, Nev., and James and Matthew Peel, of Houston, Texas; one brother, Wayland Rasmussen, of Gassville, Ark.; and one sister, Evangeline Olsen, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Emmaline Getz.
