Pearl Andrew

Pearl Marie Andrew, 88, of Burlington, died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Burlington Care Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1918, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Arthur William and Mary Margaret Brumm Fehse. On Dec. 9, 1937, she married Arthur David Andrew in Burlington. He died Jan. 6, 1993.

Mrs. Andrew was a homemaker.

She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed cross stitching, sewing, watching soap operas, taking care of her house plants and was an animal lover.

Survivors include two daughters, Merry–Jo Gay Putnam of Elkland, Mo., and Carol–Lee Joy Martin of Burlington; two grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside service for Mrs. Andrew will be at 2 p.m. today in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery , with the Rev. Jerry K. Olson officiating.

Silas Fraise

Silas Dean Fraise, 29, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at his home.

Born Aug. 8, 1976, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Mark Anthony and Lorrine Beth "Lori" Ellis Fraise.

Mr. Fraise worked briefly for the R.C. Christiansen Construction Co. He mostly worked with his grandfather at Ellis Auto Service in Mount Pleasant. He also was a wood cutter and cleared snow and trees for people, cutting the trees for firewood.

He attended school in Mount Pleasant and later received his GED. While in school, he was active in wrestling and his love of wrestling continued beyond his school years. He enjoyed working on and racing go–carts and dirt bikes and drag raced for one summer at the Eddyville Speedway.

Survivors include one son, Bryce Fraise of Mount Pleasant; his father of Salem; one sister, Elizabeth Lambert of Mount Pleasant; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Dorothy Ellis of Mount Pleasant, with whom he made his home; and his paternal grandfather, Victor Fraise of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his paternal grandmother.

There will be no funeral service for Mr. Fraise. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established.

Terri Bryant

Terri J. Bryant, 52, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 10 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at the home of her sister, Ruth Mitch–ell, in Dallas City.

Born Feb. 8, 1954, in LaHarpe, Ill., she was the daughter of Merlin L. "Pete" and Barbara Jolley Rettig. On June 6, 1972, she married Kenny Bryant. They later divorced.

Mrs. Bryant worked for Elm View Care Center in Burlington and currently worked in surgery scheduling for Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ill. She enjoyed going to the casino boat and playing bingo.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbi Mathisen of Seattle; one son, Jeremy Bryant of Whitesboro, Texas; four grandchildren; her mother of Dallas City; two sisters, Bobbi Leggett and Ruth Mitchell, both of Dallas City; and two brothers, Brad Rettig of Dallas City and Jamie Rettig of Donnellson.

She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, one niece and one nephew.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Bryant will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, with the Rev. Bettyanna Bremer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Crane Cemetery near Lomax, Ill.

A memorial has been established.

Virginia Harris

Virginia "Ginny" Ruth Harris, 84, of Burlington, died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.

Born Aug. 29, 1921, in Little York, Ill., she was the daughter of Morris and Irene Carr Sly. On Feb. 19, 1967, she married Harold Harris in Monmouth, Ill. He died March 7, 1982.

Mrs. Harris worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, National Research Bureau, was a sitter at the hospital for a short time and retired from The Hawk Eye in 1985.

She grew up in Henderson County and attended Carman Grade School and Stronghurst High School. She was of the Methodist faith and was a life member of Burlington Gym Auxiliary. She also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102 Auxiliary and a past member of Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and RSVP.

Survivors include one brother, James C. Sly of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service Thursday.

The funeral for Mrs. Harris will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Tyrone Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery in Carman, Ill.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Virginia Williams

Virginia B. Williams, 91, of Danville, died at 4 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Danville Care Center.

Born Sept. 24, 1914, east of Danville, she was the daughter of John Lewis and Ida Kelley Baugher. On June 11, 1938, she married Wayne Houseal Williams in Danville. He died Aug. 26, 1999.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She worked as an operator for Danville Telephone Co. before marriage.

She was a 1933 graduate of Danville High School. She was a member of Danville United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship, Danville Garden Club, charter member of Entre Nous and a 50–year member of Danville Eastern Star. She enjoyed taking care of flowers, feeding birds and playing piano. She played piano for Sunday school and the nursing home.

Survivors include two daughters, Irene Dohrmann of Hampton and Ida Fahrmann of Latimer; seven grandchildren and five great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandson, two sisters and three brothers, two in infancy.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to the time of service Saturday at Danville United Church of Christ.

The funeral for Mrs. Williams will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dan Buck officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Danville.

A memorial has been established.

Alzata Gordon

Alzata Gordon, 89, of Macomb, Ill., formerly of Blan–dinsville, Ill., died at 12:25 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Wesley Village Health Care in Macomb.

Born July 19, 1916, in Lewistown, Ill., she was the daughter of DeLoss and Flossie Shipp Leonard. On April 17, 1937, she married Dale Gordon in Carthage, Ill. He died Oct. 5, 1993.

Mrs. Gordon worked as a legal secretary at the office of Justice of the Peace George L. Snively in Lewistown prior to her marriage.

She was a graduate of Lewistown High School. She was a member of the Blandinsville Order of the Eastern Star, the LaHarpe Happy Helpers Club and the LaHarpe Christian Church. She lived most of her life on the family farm west of Blandinsville, helping her husband operate and manage the farm. She continued to manage the farm following his death. In her later years she contributed her writings to "The Legacy of the Mines", a collection of non–fiction about the history of mining in Fulton County. She also assisted her daughter, Barbara, at "It's Something Special", a locally–operated interior decorating business. She was an avid gardener and quilter.

Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Collins of Blan–dinsville, Nancy Shoemate of Vero Beach, Fla., Sharon Williams of Cape Fair, Mo., Diana Sharpe of Carthage and Susan Toland of Littleton, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great–grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Brewer and Philomena Lester, both of Lewistown.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Gordon will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, with the Rev. James Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb.

A memorial has been established for LaHarpe Christian Church, Wesley Village and McDonough District Hospice.

Anne Waddell

Anne Agnes Waddell, 82, of Burlington, died at 10:44 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, at her home.

Born Feb. 8, 1924, in Nauvoo, Ill., she was the daughter of Frederick William and Anna Angela Bergmeier Lange. On Feb. 12, 1942, she married James Edward Waddell in Nauvoo. He died Nov. 20, 1988.

Mrs. Waddell was a cosmetologist, homemaker and worked in production for Antenna Craft.

She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. She loved gardening and enjoyed the outdoors and fishing on the river.

Survivors include two sons, James Leonard Waddell of Peoria, Ill., and Gary Lee Waddell of Burlington; one daughter, Mary Swanson of Burlington; nine grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Stowell of Tacoma, Wash., and Teresa Soppe of Fort Madison.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one son, two brothers and five sisters.

There will be no visitation. Her body has been cremated according to her wishes.

The memorial Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Waddell will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Wiegand officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Alice Arnold

Alice M. Arnold, 97, of Dallas City, Ill., died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the Gilpin Home in Dallas City.

Born July 19, 1908, in Oklahoma City, Okla., she was the daughter of Dallas Dean and Louisa Daly Ruebush. On Aug. 24, 1926, she married Maurice "Honk" Arnold in Raritan, Ill. He died April 21, 1986.

Mrs. Arnold worked for the Lomax Canning Factory, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Sheaffer Pen Co.

She was a graduate of Sciota High School in Sciota, Ill., and attended college in St. Louis. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Dallas City and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Maureen Stump of Mendon, Ill., and Shirley Ferrill of Dallas City, Ill.; two sons, Jerry Arnold of Fort Madison and Joseph Arnold of Dallas City; 16 grandchildren; 14 great–grandchildren; and five great–great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. followed by visitation to 8 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Arnold will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City, with the Rev. Luke Spannagel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Carthage, Ill.

A memorial fund has been established.
