ALGONA - Del J. Haas, 39, of Des Moines, formerly of Algona, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Kavanaugh Hospice House, in Des Moines.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

Ruth Christina Fredrickson

FOREST CITY - Ruth Christina Fredrickson, 93, of Forest City, formerly of Des Moines, died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Bill Robertson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery , Des Moines.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorial Funeral Home, Sioux Center, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Christina Fredrickson was born to Fredrick Edward and Jennie (Rosen) Fredrickson on Sept. 27, 1905, in Des Moines. Ruth graduated from East Des Moines High School.

She worked as an accountant for 30 years at Century Lumber & Building Company and for 10 years at Calvin Manor Presbyterian Retirement Home, both in Des Moines. In 1985, Ruth and her sister, Elsie, moved to Forest City.

She enjoyed traveling and sightseeing and saw many parts of the USA with Elsie. A special highlight was her trip in 1961 to Sweden to meet her relatives and see the place where her parents were born and raised.

Survivors include one nephew, David and his wife, Charlotte Fredrickson; one niece, Elizabeth and her husband, Arlyn Boman, all of Forest City; six grand nieces; six grand nephews; 17 great-grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Conrad; and sister, Elsie.

ETHEL M. HUBER

MASON CITY - Ethel M. Huber, 71, died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

A funeral memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating.

Ethel was cremated. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church.

LEROY HANSON

NORTHWOOD - LeRoy Hanson, 71, of Northwood, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Al Stoa and the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Following funeral services, his body will be cremated with burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, in the Sunset Rest Cemetery , Northwood. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7920, Osage.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the First Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services on Monday.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

LeRoy Hanson was born on Oct. 28, 1927, in rural Northwood, Worth County, the son of Albert E. and Ella Florence (Anonson) Hanson. He was baptized in their home in rural Brookfield Township, and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Bristol Lutheran Church. He attended and received his education in the country schools at Brookfield No. 3, rural Northwood.

After completing his schooling, he helped out his parents on the family farm. He then rented a farm south of Tenold on the Melvin Burtness farm. On Sept. 8, 1950, he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving overseas in Germany during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on Aug. 29, 1952. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Diamond Trucking Company in Charles City. He was also employed for seven years with Deckers Meat Packing Company in Mason City, Al Severson's Mobile Home Trailer Park as a maintenance person for 14 years in Northfield, Minn. and Waseca, Minn. For three years, he worked in the Lumber yard in Northfield, Minn. and Kensett Homes in Kensett until his retirement in 1988. LeRoy also lived in Manly for 10 years, where he was the school crossing guard and also delivered Meals on Wheels before moving to the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7920 in Osage, former member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mason City, former member of the Manly Lions Club, Sons of Norway and former member of the Eagles Lodge in Northfield, Minn.

Left to cherish his memory is a twin brother, Lawrence A. Hanson, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood; several cousins; and special friends, Gary Drentlaw and his wife, Barb, and their children, Phillip, Lesia, Kim and Andy, of Northfield, Minn.; Cheryl Cooper, of Mason City, Peter Ferleman and his wife, Loie, of Mason City, Bea Ferleman, of Olatha, Kan., and David Ferleman, of Tennessee, as well as other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

GLEN B. PALS

BELMOND - Glen B. Pals, 80, passed away Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital, Belmond.

Funeral services for Glen B. Pals will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Pat Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery , near Alexander.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond.

Glen, the son of Herman and Dena Peil Pals, was born March 3, 1919, in Alexander. He grew up and attended country school in the Alexander and Meservey area. As a young man, Glen worked as a farm laborer for Ben Peil. He then started farming with his brother, Robert, in 1954.

On March 25, 1967, he was united in marriage to Alice Peil. Alice passed away in 1970.

On Aug. 3, 1973, he was united in marriage to Lois Schlichting. The couple made their home southeast of Klemme, where Glen continued farming until retiring in 1982. In 1987, they moved to Belmond.

Glen enjoyed watching rodeos and he loved horses. He was also a nature lover, who was always looking for birds and deer. He liked to go for rides in his car. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Glen and Lois enjoyed camping, wintering in Texas 11 years. Glen was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, where he was baptized in 1978.

Glen is survived by his wife, Lois; four stepchildren, Wayne Schlichting and his wife, Linda, of Britt, Merlin Schlichting and his wife, Kay, of Britt, Melvin Schlichting, of Klemme, and Donavon Peil, of Belmond; 15 grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Koenen, of Meservey, and Berniece Suntken and her husband, Herman, of Belmond; one brother, Robert Pals, of Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

DEL JAMES HAAS

DES MOINES - Del James Haas, 39, of Des Moines, formerly of Algona, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Kavanaugh Hospice House, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery , Algona.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

VERENA L. MCGUIRE

ALGONA - Verena L. McGuire, 73, of Algona, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

JENNIE L. MENTINK

MASON CITY - Jennie L. Mentink, 84, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

ERNA A. BOEHLJE

SHEFFIELD - Erna A. Boehlje, 91, of Sheffield, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at the Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grace Baptist Church, Sheffield, with Pastor Bruce Rulapaugh officiating. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

MARIA G. KLEIN

OSAGE - Maria G. Klein, 85, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage. Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Maria was born May 2, 1914, in Mason City, the daughter of Otto and Paula (Beasm) Hoppe. She lived in Omaha, Neb., and East Chicago, Ind.

On Jan. 23, 1954, Maria was united in marriage to Myron Klein in East Chicago, Ind. They moved to the Orchard area in 1956 and to Osage in 1958. Maria was employed by Marr Knitting and Fox River Mills of Osage, retiring in 1985.

She enjoyed knitting and recently was recognized for the knitting of afghans that were used by Hospice. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Maria is survived by her husband, Myron Klein, Osage; a son, Raymond Boge and his wife, Nancy, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two grandchildren, Thomas Boge and his wife, Katie, and their children, Kyle and Kelli, of Olatha, Kan., and Jill Schlies and her husband, Bill, and their children, Michael and Kathryn, of Waukesha, Wis.; and two sisters, Gertrude Garraffa, Highland, Ind., and Ruth Anderson, Littleton, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and three brothers.
