Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Thompson, with Pastors Philip and Marilyn Peters officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Thompson.

LELAND - Donald Hofbauer, 69, of Leland, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

JAMES A. BREWER
ROCK FALLS - James A. Brewer, 76, of 6 Nottingham, Rock Falls, died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Wayne Ryan of Rolling Acres Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery , Rockford.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory.
James A. Brewer was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Markville, Minn., the son of James Lewis and Sophiah E. (Fuller) Brewer. He attended school in Cloverton, Minn., Rockford and Mason City, Iowa.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy as a gunners mate on the U.S.S. Nevada during World War II.
After returning to Mason City, he worked at Thomas Machine Co. where he served his machinist apprenticeship and worked for many years. He also worked for Armour, Yellow Cab and the Memorial Park Cemetery.
For several years, he attended Rolling Acres Free Methodist Church. He is a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. He is also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.
Jim liked to travel to different places and to fish.
He will be missed by his family. They include sister, Helen Eggena of Mason City, sister, June Bernhardt of Plymouth, sister, Claudia Paulson of Mason City, sister, Genevieve Hoeppner and husband, Burdette, of Buffalo Center, and sister, Rilla Turner and husband, Lloyd, of Benton, Tenn.; and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

BRITT - Louie L. Sweers, 74, of Britt, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at his home in Britt.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Britt, with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Township Cemetery , Britt.

MARSHALLTOWN - The Rev. Cloyd Bishop, 78, of 341 Center Point Dr., Montezuma, formerly of Green Mountain, died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Marshalltown, with the Rev. Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be in Green Mountain Cemetery , Green Mountain.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, Marshalltown.
ETHEL MAE BUTZ HUBER
MASON CITY - Ethel Mae Butz Huber, 71, passed away peacefully at her home at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, on Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999).
A celebration of her life and family will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church. Ethel was cremated and inurnment will be done at a later date. Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. SE, Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel, daughter of Frank and Helen Marie Vick Butz, was born on June 29, 1928, in Ridgeway, Iowa. She graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1946.
Ethel married Parnell A. Huber on July 9, 1946. They had four children, twins Lynn and Lynda, Beverly and David.
Ethel was the district clerk for the state of Iowa, Post No. 8, Iowa Highway Patrol and also worked four years with Job Services of Iowa. She was active in church and community , both at local and state levels. She served eight years with the Red Cross Board of Directors, ACCW and American Legion Auxiliary, at both county district and state levels. Ethel was a volunteer for Newman High School Girls Physical Education. She was active in all community drives and political interests.
She loved spending time with her family and friends. One of her many joys was playing cards, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ethel will always be remembered for her strength, dignity, compassion and love. She was a devoted mother and friend. She was known for her generosity, delightful sense of humor and her faith in God. Ethel loved her staff at Good Shepherd, Hospice of North Iowa and her many care givers.
Ethel is survived by her four children, Lynn Huber of Rockwell, Lynda Olson of Coralville, Beverly Huber of Mason City, and David John Huber of Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Earl Butz, of Sun City, Ariz.; her sister, Alice Pierce, of Cresco; her brother, Marion Butz, of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. She had four grand dogs, Addie, Bob, Woody and Annie. She had many special friends including Cheryl Plagge, Mona Nova and Cindy Hesley, all of Mason City.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Parnell; her parents; two brothers, Russell and Lawrence; and her granddaughter, Elizabeth.
