ULANDA C. NASHEIM

MASON CITY - Ulanda C. (Mrs. John) Nasheim, 83, of 155 15th St. N.W., died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Private family graveside services will be held Tuesday at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Cahill, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery . The Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Ulanda's family wants to express their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hospice of North Iowa for the care they so tenderly extended to Ulanda, and asks those considering an expression of sympathy to direct memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.

Mrs. Nasheim, the former Ulanda C. Marroni, was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Mason City, the daughter of Antonio and Louise (Buccella) Marroni. She attended school in Mason City. In June of 1936 she was united in marriage to John Henry Nasheim. Mr. Nasheim preceded his wife in death on Nov. 17, 1992, in Mason City.

For 30 years, Mrs. Nasheim was employed by the former Armour Meat Packing Company of Mason City. Most of the years Ulanda was employed there were spent in the lard department. During her employment, Ulanda was a member of the labor union representing the plant workers. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. Most especially, she loved to spend time with her sisters and granddaughters.

Those thankful for being a part of Ulanda's life include her son, Charles H. Nasheim of Mason City; a brother, Gabriel Marroni of Mason City; five sisters, Mrs. Marie Kallas, Mrs. Lucille Bilyeu, Mary Johnson and her husband, Ralph "Red," and Mrs. Angeline Melby, all of Mason City, and Lorraine McCollough and her husband, Dean, of Clarion; two granddaughters and their husbands, Shelby and Kevin Hill of Mason City, and Heidi and Jeff Hargis of Manly; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Jordan Hargis of Manly.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Woody Marroni, and three sisters, Rose Marroni, Jenny Graham and Nancy Cappazucca.

MARGARET L. QUINBY

CHARLES CITY - Margaret L. Quinby, (Mrs. Kenneth) 81, of the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City, and formerly of 403 Fifth Ave., Charles City, and rural route Floyd, died Friday (Aug. 27, 1999) at the nursing home of natural causes.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Highway 18 and Clark Street, Charles City. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, Pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery , Floyd.

Friends may call to greet the family from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. The Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Quinby, the former Margaret Lola O'Rourke, was born April 28, 1918, in rural Nora Springs, the daughter of Ben and Harriet (Trainer) O'Rourke. She was baptized at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford. Margaret graduated from the former Rudd Community High School in Rudd. On May 11, 1940, in Charles City, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Clair Quinby. The couple made their home on a farm north of Floyd until moving into Charles City in the late 1970s. They often enjoyed fishing trips together. Mr. Quincy died on March 11, 1985, in Charles City. Mrs. Quinby was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the St. Rose Circle of the church.

Those thankful for sharing Margaret's life are her many nieces and nephews, Donald Meloy and his wife, Joan, of Bernard, Therese Meloy, Mary Catherine Meloy, her godchild Joe Meloy, and Dennis Meloy, all of Dubuque, LeRoy Stonecypher of Floyd, Steve Shankland of Charles City, Donnie Quinby of Rockford, Terry Quinby of Charles City, Jeff Quinby of Joice, Clair Stonecypher of Texas, Diane Ramker of Greene, and Gary Quinby of Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Belma Stonecypher of Charles City, and Juanita Quinby of Floyd; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are her special friends and neighbors who watched over Kenneth and Margaret these many years, Carroll and Joyce Bishop of Osage.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Meloy.

CARRIE L. SCHAEFER

BRITT - Carrie L. Schaefer, 77, passed away Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Britt with the Rev. James A. Mattson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery , Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Carrie Lena Schaefer, the daughter of John and Sena (Smidt) Sweers, was born Dec. 24, 1921, on the family farm in Boone Township, southwest of Britt. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She attended the rural schools of Boone Township. On Dec. 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Clarence Henry Schaefer at the First Lutheran Church in Britt. They farmed the Schaefer home farm until 1979, when they moved to an acreage west of Britt. In June of 1992, they moved to 330 Center St. W. in Britt. After Clarence passed away in 1993, she continued to live in her own home. She enjoyed her family, friends, gardening and farming in general.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and WELCA.

She is survived by her six children, Robert Schaefer and his wife, Marlys, of Britt, and their four children, Heather, Stacey, Justin and Amy, Richard Schaefer and his wife, Ladonna, of Wesley, and their three children, Amber Siever and her husband, Brian, Brennon and Nathan, Dorothy Schaefer of Britt, Dennis Schaefer and his wife, Nancy, of Garner, and their two children, David and Kristina, Dean Schaefer of Britt and his daughter, Tara Jo, and Diane Falada and her husband, Paul, of Clear Lake, and their two sons, Nolan and Brandon; two sisters, Lucille DeWaard of Corwith, and Janet Moldenhauer and her husband, Clint, of Forest City; three brothers, Ben Sweers and his wife, Mary Rose, of Britt, Elmer Sweers and his wife, Francine, of Britt, and Herman Sweers and his wife, Sally, of Britt; three sisters-in-law, Joan Sweers of Britt, Margaret Sweers of Woden, and Alene Schaefer of Rockwell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, on Feb. 26, 1993; parents; two brothers, Jake Sweers and Louie Sweers; and a brother-in-law, Adrian DeWaard.

Dr. HARRY G. MARINOS

MASON CITY - Dr. Harry G. Marinos, 85, of 2501 W. State St., died Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, West Campus.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Major-Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or the Endowment Fund for the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration.

Harry was born Nov. 13, 1913, in Mason City, the son of George and Irene (Gergiou) Marinos. Harry graduated from Mason City High School, attended Mason City Junior College, then graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine in 1938. Harry entered into private practice with Dr. L.W. Swanson here in Mason City in 1941. He married Christine Provas on Jan. 11, 1942, in Kansas City, and shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Army. Harry served as a major during World War II in the Army Medical Corp in the South Pacific. Harry and his wife returned to Mason City in 1945, where he practiced medicine as a staff member of Mercy Hospital until his retirement in 1975. After retiring, he moved to Little Rock, Ark., where in 1977, he began teaching clinical medicine as an associate professor at the University of Arkansas. He retired in 1983 as professor emeritus. Harry moved back to Mason City in 1987. He was past president of the Iowa Clinical Medical Society, a member of the Iowa Society of Internal Medicine, life member of the Iowa Medical Society, American Medical Association, Cerro Gordo County Medical Society, past Lions Club member, former director of Mutual Federal Savings and Loan and American State Bank, and the Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration.

Harry is survived by his son, James Marinos and his wife, Jean, of Mason City; a daughter, Irene Vratsinas and her husband, Gus, of Little Rock, Ark.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, John Marinos of New Providence, N.J., and Milton Marinos of Plymouth, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine; a sister, Francis; and a brother, Jim.

BILLY B. BROWN

CLEAR LAKE - Billy B. Brown, 77, of Clear Lake, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jonathan Swenson, of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, officiating. Following the service, his body will be cremated.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

The family of Billy B. Brown has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, in his memory.

Billy B. Brown was born in Omaha, Neb., on Dec. 15, 1921, the only child of Thomas Leo and Florence (Blanton) Brown. The family returned to Kansas City, Mo., where Bill went to elementary school, Paseo High School and Kansas City Junior College, graduating in June of 1941.

He enlisted in the Army on July 5, 1941, re-enlisted in November of 1945 and again in November of 1949, until his honorable discharge as a Master Sergeant in February 1953. Bill had nearly three years overseas service in the Philippines, Italy and Eniwetok during his 111/2 years of Regular Army Service.

He was united in marriage to Helen Marie Foxworthy on Dec. 14, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death in September 1982, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Bill completed his education attending night school at Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Mo., graduating in 1957. He became a Certified Public Accountant by passing the 21/2-day examination in November 1957. Bill worked at nine auditing or accounting positions, six in the Kansas City area and three in Iowa locations, from 1953 to 1986, when he retired. He moved to Ottumwa in 1972, to Belmond in 1983, and to Clear Lake in 1985.

He was united in marriage to Amie Loretta (Langerud) Hauge, of Clear Lake on Feb. 16, 1985, at the Zion Lutheran Church, in Clear Lake.

Together they enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards and the 13 winters being winter Texans in Mission, Texas.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Amie Brown, of Clear Lake; his two daughters, Ann Marie Brown, of St. Louis, Mo., and Donna Joyce Brown, of Kansas City, Mo.; as well as other relatives and friends.

TIM JOHNSON

ROCKWELL - Tim Johnson, 16, of Rockwell, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 1999, at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce E. Wittern and the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery.

VERA M. WAYCHUS

MASON CITY - Vera M. Waychus, 68, of 1101 12th St. N.E., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Her body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.

Memorials may be made to Mercy Medical Center-Cancer Center or Hospice of North Iowa, in memory of Vera M. Waychus.

Vera M. Waychus was born May 28, 1931, in Manly, the daughter of Fred H. and Ruth L. (Godfrey) Logeman. She married Frank Waychus on June 18, 1949, in Mason City.

Vera was a resident of Manly and Mason City and she graduated from Plymouth High School. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, camping, playing cards and dining with friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include three children, David F. Waychus of Nora Springs, Ruth A. Powers and her husband, John W., of Jackson, Mo., and Douglas J. Waychus and his wife, Rosetta, of Mason City; four grandchildren, Lindsay, Rachel, Meghan and Joslyn; one brother, Westly F. Logeman of Northwood; one sister, Vivian R. Balek of Mason City; a special friend Irv Zorn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one grandson, Shane Waychus.
