MARILYN KAY KLING

BELMOND - Marilyn Kay Kling, 61, of Belmond, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Marilyn Kay (Steenhard) Kling, the daughter of Clarence and Jennie (Wiemann) Steenhard, was born on July 29, 1938, in Hampton. Her family lived in Latimer, Britt, and Meservey, and she attended and graduated from Belmond Community High School in 1956.

She was united in marriage to Richard Kling on Aug. 4, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church, in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond.

Marilyn was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. Her church work allowed her to serve in the Lutheran Church Women (LCW) as its president and she actively worked on the St. John Church Council and many other church groups as an organizer and participant. In addition, while her children were at home, Marilyn was a Campfire Girl Leader.

Marilyn enjoyed playing golf and cards. She played bridge and 500 with her many friends and she enjoyed participating in many card clubs, one of which she was a member for 33 years.

She was also active in many community activities, which included the Culture Study Club, and she was a member at the Belmond Country Club.

She worked closely with the Belmond Community Hospital, where she held numerous offices for the Hospital Auxiliary. Her hospital volunteer work included being a receptionist for the outpatient clinics and as a volunteer with the Wright County Hospice. Marilyn was also very proud to be a Belmond Fire Department wife.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, of Belmond; three daughters, Susan Whitty and her husband, Richard, of Belmond, Pamela Kling and her friend, Mike Rausch, of Tucson, Ariz. and Cynthia Kling, of Okinawa, Japan; two grandsons, Nathan and Justin Whitty; her mother, Jennie Steenhard, of Belmond; one sister, Sharon Hagie, of Clarion; mother-in-law, Rosie Kling, of Belmond; and two nephews, Chris Hagie and Tim Hagie and his wife, Anne and their daughter, Jaymie.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence; and by three siblings at birth.

RICHARD W. BARTON

MASON CITY - Richard W. Barton, 69, of Modesto, Calif., formerly of Mason City, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at Doctors Hospital in Modesto, after a lengthy illness.

His body was cremated. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.

Richard Barton was born to Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Barton on June 7, 1930, in Winona, Minn.

Richard graduated from Mason City High School and worked in Mason City for many years before moving to Modesto, 24 years ago.

Survivors include two sisters, Berdine Ream, of Merced, Calif., and Betty McDougle, of Mason City; 31 nieces and nephews; and long-time friend, Micheal Rossum, of Modesto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and two nephews in infancy.

MARQUIS COFFEY

ROCKFORD - Marquis Coffey, 81, of Rockford, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main St., Rockford.

RAYMOND H. TAPPS

MASON CITY - Raymond H. Tapps, 79, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils Hellevik officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

LAURA M. JANSSEN

NASHUA - Laura M. Janssen, 96, of Madrid, formerly of Nashua, died Monday afternoon (Aug. 30, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Nashua United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery , both in Nashua.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Laura was born on Dec. 15, 1902, in Washington Township, Bremer County, the son of S. Park and Ida M. (Knapp) Wilson. She graduated from Nashua High School and Wartburg College.

Laura married Abe Peter Janssen on Oct. 18, 1936, at Dysart.

Laura taught first grade at Nashua for 30 years, retiring in 1972.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay L. Gallup, of Madrid; four grandchildren, Laura Sabby, of Manly, Peter Gallup, of Charles City, Yvonne Helm, of Berwick and Deb Holwegner, of Des Moines; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe Peter Janssen on March 30, 1942; one brother, Donald Wilson; and one sister, Velma Contrarini.

GRACE GRETCHEN GALLOWAY

BELMOND - Grace Gretchen Galloway, 92, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.

Memorial services for Grace Galloway will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bethany Reformed Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Herm Gruis officiating. A private family committal service will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, is in charge of arrangements.

Grace, the daughter of George and Tina Frohling Bohning, was born Sept. 12, 1906, near Belmond. She grew up and attended country school in the Belmond area.

On June 6, 1931, Grace was united in marriage to Emory Galloway in Fort Dodge. The couple made their home in several Iowa communities, including Olwein, Cherokee, Strawberry Point and Mason City. They returned to Belmond, where they retired to the Belmond Community Apartments.

Grace is survived by three grandchildren, Steve Galloway, Glen A. Galloway and his wife, Mindy, and Gay E. Berthel, all of Manchester; five great-grandchildren, Shannon Galloway and Megan Rouse, of Van Horne and Ian Galloway, Jake Galloway and Samantha Berthel, of Manchester; three nieces, Gwen Peterson, of Dent, Minn., Barbara Snyder, of Pleasant Hill, and Karon Carpenter, of Onalaska, Wis.; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Bohning, of Belmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Tina Bohning; husband, Emory Galloway; son, Gary Galloway, in 1997; two brothers, Andrew and Fredrich Bohning; and one sister, Gay Heginger.

VIOLET WEAVER

GARNER - Violet Weaver, 79, of Garner, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church, Garner, with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

MARJORIE B. ANDREWS BACHMAN

GREENE - Marjorie B. Andrews Bachman, 94, of 605 N. Second St., died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Greene, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene.

MARJORIE B. ANDREWS BACHMAN

GREENE - Funeral services for Marjorie B. Andrews Bachman, 94, of 605 N. Second St., Greene, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Greene, with Pastor Galen E. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Greene.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel, in Greene.

Marjorie Beatrice Flitton was born May 17, 1905 in Marshalltown, a daughter of John and Olive (Worden) Flitton, and died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center, in Greene.

She received her education in the Marshalltown Public Schools graduating in 1924. She attended Iowa State College in Ames for one year and was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. She was employed at the Marshall County Courthouse and later Lennox Manufacturing, both in Marshalltown as a secretary.

On Sept. 11, 1930, she was united in marriage to Dr. William Andrews at her mother's home in Marshalltown. They made their home in Greene where Dr. Andrews had established his veterinary practice a year before. She assisted her husband in his practice for many years and later was secretary at the Greene Elementary School. Dr. Andrews died April 20, 1966.

On Oct. 1, 1978, she was united in marriage to Leland F. Bachman. They made their home in Greene and spent their winters in Florida until his death in 1988.

Marjorie had a great interest in her community and friends by her involvement in many civic organizations. She was a member of Chapter CC P.E.O. Sisterhood, Ladies Embroidery Club, 50-year member of the Federated Womans Club, first president of the Ladies Golf Association Round Grove Country Club, and past worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the U.P.W. of Greene. Her interests included knitting, crafts, reading and playing Bridge.

Living family members include her four daughters and their spouses, Martha and John Deines, of Cedar Falls, Marjorie and Duane Enabnit, of Marble Rock, Marilyn and Justin Watson, of Manchester and Melinda and Dennis McWilliams, of Bristow; two stepsons and their spouses, Charles and Nancy Bachman, of New York and Lyle and Nita Bachman, of California; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, David and Julie Deines, Dana and Samantha Deines, Dawn and Keith Christensen, Diedre and Doug Schumacher, Darla Hollis, Danette and Shane Norris, Michael and Lisa Enabnit, Bill and Suz Watson, Curt and Debbie Watson, Gregory McWilliams, Barbara and Todd Brinkman; 10 great-grandchildren, Kate, Emma, Alexa, and Jared Deines, Chelsey, Lynsey Christensen, Erica Schumacher, Darrica and David Hollis, and Tyler Brinkman. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, parents, and four sisters, Fern Pedersen, Gladys Morrison, Mildred Stone, and Doris Eige.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Marjorie B. Andrews Bachman Memorial Fund in care of the family.
