RAYMOND H. TAPPS
MASON CITY - Raymond H. Tapps, 79, of 527 13th St. S.E., died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils C. "Chris" Hellevik officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , with full Veterans honors at graveside by the Mason City Memorial Association.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Raymond H. Tapps Memorial Fund.
Raymond was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Rockwell City, the son of Otto and Minnie (Kleemeier) Tapps. The family moved to Britt in 1928 where Raymond attended schools. He was baptized in Rockwell City and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Britt. He enlisted in the Army, leaving Britt in May of 1941. He was attached to the 2nd Battalion of the Red Bull Division. He spent 34 months in North Africa and Europe. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his participation in the European-African campaigns. He was honorably discharged in June of 1945. He was united in marriage to Myrtle J. Willand, of Joice, on June 16, 1946 at Sion Lutheran Church, Lake Mills.
Ray was employed as a mechanic and service manager at various garages in Mason City, the last being Hale-Phipps from which he retired in 1981.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of San Juan Marne VFW Post No. 733, of which he served as a Commander in 1984. He was an active participant in the Honor Guard for many years until last year. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had enjoyed volunteering for several years and drove the DAV van transporting veterans.
He enjoyed spending his winters in Mesa, Ariz. where he encountered a wonderful support group. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time and playing games and spending time with his grandchildren.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Myrtle Tapps, of Mason City; daughters, Linda Als and her husband, Tom, of Mason City, and Marilyn Brandt, of Des Moines; grandchildren, Loris Als, of Mason City, Scott Als, of Ames, and Matthew and Brian Brandt, of Des Moines; one sister, Gladys Charlson, of Carbondale, Ill.; brothers, Albert Tapps and his wife, Ruth, of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Virgil Tapps, of Ruthven; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Elmer and LuVerne.

VIOLET WEAVER
GARNER - Violet Weaver, 79, of Garner, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, in Garner, with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery , Garner.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Violet Virginia May Weaver, the daughter of Roy Irwin and Cora May (Gates) Schaefer was born July 2, 1920 on a farm southwest of Garner in Liberty Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Liberty Methodist Church. Violet attended Liberty Township No. 9 school and Klemme High School.
On June 10, 1937, she was married to Emory Edward Weaver at the Peace Reformed parsonage south of Garner. They farmed south of Garner until 1954, when they moved into Garner. She worked for Engstler & Markman, Goodnature's Store, Westside Grocery, Garner-Hayfield Community Schools, Dr. L.R. Fuller and Bohn Furniture Store.
In 1982, after retiring, they became foster parents for eight Vietnamese and three American children. They also provided day care for seven children for several years. Vi had a thirst for knowledge and was continually reading and educating herself.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Guild. She also belonged to the Knit & Pearl Club, Hancock County Little Theater and the Garner V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family, friends, quilting and donating her services.
She is survived by two sons, Egon Weaver and his wife, Elaine, of Boone and Troy Weaver and his wife, Amanda, of Cartersville, Ga.; a daughter, Candice Ruppert and her husband, Troy, of Summerville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Kent Weaver and his wife, Dr. Angela Collins Weaver and their two children, Alyssa and Paul, Heather Nigro and her husband, Mark and their daughter, Autumn, Season Weaver, Heath Weaver and Shane Weaver; three sisters, Rose Trca, of Garner, Iris Rayhons, of Fort Dodge and Daisy Schwichtenberg and her husband, Jesse, of Kanawha; two brothers, Merle Schaefer, of Sun Valley, Calif. and Eugene Schaefer and his wife, Gloria, of Mason City; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Schaefer, of Garner and Esther Schaefer, of Valencia, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory E. Waver, April 19, 1997; her parents; two brothers, Calvin "Joe" Schaefer and Donald Schaefer; and a niece, Twyla Schaefer.

ROCKFORD - Marquis J. "Mark" Coffey, 81, 109 Fifth St. N.W., Rockford, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main St., Rockford, with the Rev. John Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery , Rockford.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 E. Main St., Rockford, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

LAKE MILLS - Orlando R. Olson, 81, of Lake Mills, died Thursday (Sept. 2, 1999) at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grace Lutheran Church, Hanlontown, with the Rev. David Werges officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Memorial Cemetery , Lake Mills.

WHITTEMORE - Marguerite M. Reinen, 76, of Whittemore, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 1999) at the Regional Health Center, Algona.
