CATHERINE L. KNAPP

MASON CITY - Catherine L. Knapp, 83, of the Manor, Mason City, died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Catherine was born Feb. 11, 1916 in Bankston, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Kennedy) Daly. She graduated from St. Clements High School, Bankston, in 1933 and continued her education at St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing, Mason City, graduating in 1937.

Catherine married R. A. "Dick" Knapp on Feb. 20, 1939, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City.

She was a 42-year member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Madonna Circle. Catherine enjoyed volunteering at the Community Kitchen, Red Cross and helping with the Cheer Fund.

Catherine is survived by eight children, Toni Ebeling and her husband, Tom, of Clear Lake, Tim Knapp and his wife, Olga, of Faribault, Minn., Tom Knapp and his wife, Susan, of Fort Dodge, Margaret Happe and her husband, Rick, of Marshalltown, Richard Knapp and his wife, Mary, of Des Moines, Robert Knapp, of Stillwater, Minn., Catherine Juhlin and her husband, Jon, of Cedar Falls, and Michael Knapp, of Dallas, Texas; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Matthew Daly and his wife, Ann, of Bankston; and one sister, Anna Mae Daly, of Parachute, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick, in 1983; two sisters, Helen Kelly and Margaret Connolly; and two brothers, William and Donald Daly.

LUCILLE FRANKLIN

NORA SPRINGS - Lucille Franklin, 90, of Beloit, Wis., formerly of Nora Springs, died Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) at the Beloit Health and Rehabilitation Center, Beloit.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Park Cemetery , Nora Springs.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Nora Springs United Methodist Church.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille was born Nov. 14, 1908, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Orren and Dorcas (Pester) Porter. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1925.

She married George H. Franklin on Nov. 25, 1926, in Garner. They lived in the Garner and Ventura areas until 1943 when they moved to Nora Springs. In 1964 she graduated from Mason City Junior College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Mason City until her retirement. Due to ill health, she moved to Beloit, Wis., to be closer to her son, George.

Lucille loved to read, sew, make quilts, work on handwork, do crossword puzzles, garden and do volunteer work in the community.

Lucille was a member of the Nora Springs United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Lucille is survived by four children, Rose Anne Fowler and her husband, Thomas, of Orlando, Fla., George H. Franklin Jr., of Beloit, Wis., Robert P. Franklin and his wife, Joyce, of Cedaredge, Colo., and Linda Limesand and her husband, Milford, of Tonganoxie, Kan.; two sisters, Esther Evans, of Anaheim, Calif., and Catherine Davis and her husband, Chuck, of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Flossie Skellenger and Ella Bruns; her husband, George; one daughter, Esther Campbell; one grandson, Jimmy Campbell; and one granddaughter, Joyce Franklin.

CAROL MARIE DALBEY

MASON CITY - Carol Marie Dalbey, 83, of Mason City, formerly of Des Moines, died of natural causes on Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lane Chapel, Plymouth Congregational Church, 4126 Ingersoll, Des Moines, with the Rev. Faith Ferre officiating. Inurnment will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Cemetery , Des Moines.

Memorials in Carol's name may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church, Des Moines, or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Carol Marie Dalbey was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Yankton, S.D., daughter of Clarence James and Carolyn Pearl (Spraker) Hatch. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, in 1934, and then worked at Reppert's Drug Store.

She married Robert Thomas Dalbey on July 20, 1940, in Iowa Falls. They resided in the Des Moines area until 1995, when their health led to a move to Mason City in order to be closer to family.

Carol is survived by three daughters, Mary Carol Rhatigan, of Carlsbad, Calif., Martha Anne Ryan, of Clear Lake, and Margaret Jean Bjornson, of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Robert Rhatigan, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Christine Rhatigan, of Santa Barbara, Calif., Kathleen Rhatigan, of Carlsbad, Calif., John "Jack" Ryan III, of Mason City, Allison Ashley, Jennifer Arnold, Teresa Fitzpatrick and Clinton Arnold, all of Seattle, Wash.; four great-grandchildren, Brian and Casey Rhatigan, both of Laguna Niguel, Calif., John D. Ryan IV, of Mason City, and Amberly Ashley, of Seattle. She is also survived by two special sons-in-law, Walter Bate, of Clear Lake, and Thomas Rhatigan, of San Diego, Calif.; a special cousin, Doris Hammon, of Whittier, Calif.; and several much loved nieces and nephews, including Alice Bernstein, of Baltimore, Delores Dalbey, of Des Moines, and Joan Eggers, of Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a beloved nephew, John Dalbey.

LLOYD LEICHTMAN

NEW HAMPTON - Lloyd Leichtman, 83, of New Hampton, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton, with the Rev. Marvin Salz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , New Hampton.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. rosary, a 7 p.m. Forester Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of New Hampton; one daughter, Carol Crawford, of New Hampton; two sons, Larry Leichtman, of Garner and Ron Leichtman, of New Hampton; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth Leichtman, of New Hampton and Duane Leichtman, of New Hampton.

JEANINE LEE IVERSON

DOWS - Memorial services for Jeanine Lee Iverson, of Dows, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the First Lutheran Church, Dows, with the Rev. Glenn Kappelmann officiating. Her cremains will be buried in Otis Grove Cemetery , Dows , at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church, in Dows.

Jeanine died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at the age of 49 years at her home in Dows. She was the wife of State Senate Majority Leader Stewart Iverson Jr.

Jeanine Lee Daum was born in Iowa Falls, Feb. 10, 1950, the daughter, of Henry and Lois Jensen Daum. She was raised on a farm near Buckeye, Iowa and received her elementary education in Buckeye and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1968. In 1970, she received her AA degree from Ellsworth Community College, in Iowa Falls.

On June 14, 1970, she was united in marriage to Stewart Iverson Jr. at Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ, in Alden. Besides being a wife and mother, she has spent the past nine years as her husband's secretary in the Iowa State Legislature.

Jeanine was a very active member of the First Lutheran Church, in Dows, a member of the FLCW, American Legion Auxiliary, the Federation of Republican Women and the Legislative League.

Survivors include her parents, Henry and Lois Daum, of Buckeye; husband, Stewart Iverson Jr., of Dows; one daughter, Shelley and husband, Shawn Finnel, of St. Charles, Ill.; one son, Stewart and wife, Nichole Iverson, of Lawrence, Kan.; two grandchildren, Ryan Robert Finnel and Alec Joseph Iverson; and one sister, Josette and husband, Charles, of Urbandale.

SOPHIA ROETHLER

CHARLES CITY - Sophia Roethler, 91, formerly of 106 Rob Roy lane, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City.

Mrs. Ben 'Beulah' de Buhr

ROCKFORD - Mrs. Ben "Beulah" de Buhr, 77, of 104 Third St. N.W., Rockford, died Monday morning (Sept. 6, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, with the Rev. John Albrecht officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery , Rockford, with full military rites by the Walker Graper American Legion Post No. 338 of Rockford.

Visitation was held Wednesday at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Beulah T. de Buhr Memorial Fund.

Beulah was born on Nov. 5, 1921 in Ulster Township, the daughter of Walter and Amy "Warren" Keifer. She attended rural school and graduated from Rockford High School Class of 1940. She worked at the defense plant in Ankeny for a year then served her country honorably in the United States Navy as a Wave for two years. During that time she was privileged to march at Franklin D. Roosevelt's funeral. She spent most of her military time in New York, being discharged in January of 1946.

After returning home, she worked as a secretary at Dr. Salsbury's laboratory for several years. Beulah served on the Social Welfare board for Floyd County and assisted and supported her husband in his public responsibilities both on the city and county levels. She was an active member of the Walker Graper American Legion for over 50 years.

Beulah was a confirmed member of the Zion Lutheran Church, active in teaching Sunday and Bible School, and working with her church circle.

On Oct. 5, 1949, Beulah was united in marriage to Bernard A. "Ben" de Buhr and to this union were born two children, David and Dianne. All of her activities were superseded by her love of family, especially her grandchildren whose accomplishments gave her great pride. She was happiest when the family and friends over flowed her home which often became the hub for activities pertaining to her husband's business, bookkeeping and appointments, political interests and the family rites of passages. While her eyesight allowed, she enjoyed her gardening, crocheting, and ceramic work.

Left to cherish her wonderful memories are her daughter, Dianne and her husband, Alan Christeson and their two children, Garrett and Brent, all of Rockford; her son, David and his wife, Sue de Buhr and their two children, Neal and Nicholas, of Cedar Falls; one sister, Audrey Norman, of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Florence Keifer, both of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben in 1998; her parents; one sister, Opal Clifford; and two brothers, Arnold and Dale Keifer.
