MARY RASMUSSEN

HAMPTON - Mary Rasmussen, 95, of Hampton, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Hampton, with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery , rural Hampton.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

EMMA WERTJES

LAKOTA - Emma Wertjes, 94, of Buffalo Center, formerly of Lakota, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at the Timely Mission Nursing Home, in Buffalo Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lakota, with Pastor Marino Melstad officiating. Interment will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery , near Lakota.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Winter Funeral Home, in Buffalo Center.

Emma was born on July 10, 1905 near Lakota. She was the daughter of German immigrants, William and Josephine Mabus. She attended the rural schools in the area and later taught in the country school system.

On May 22, 1927, she was united in marriage to Albert Wertjes. The couple farmed near Lakota and raised three sons, Eugene, Don and Duane. In the mid 60s they retired from farming and moved to town in Lakota. In 1990, Emma became a resident at the Timely Mission Nursing Home, in Buffalo Center.

Emma was an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, in Lakota. She will be remembered for her faith, generosity and gift of hospitality. She enjoyed baking, gardening, reading and visiting with her friends and relatives.

Survivors include one son, Don D. Wertjes and his wife, Delores, of Buffalo Center; six grandchildren, Maurren Dawson and her husband, Mark, of Mason City, Alan J. Wertjes and his wife, Catherine, of Olympia, Wash., Larry E. Wertjes and his wife, Jennifer Julsrud-Wertjes, of Lakota, Jim Wertjes, of Lakota, Jill Wertjes, of Ames, and Jeff Wertjes, of Salem, Ill.; six great-grandchildren, Ross, Will and Nathan Wertjes, of Olympia, Wash., Nicholas, Megan and Lexis Julsrud-Wertjes, of Lakota; a special nephew, Dale Patterson, of Lakota; and a special niece, Joan Mabus, of Lakota; and many other special nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all siblings; and two sons, Eugene and Duane Wertjes.

FRED KRAFKA

FOREST CITY - Fred Krafka, 81, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Forest City, died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at Hospice House in Omaha, Neb.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery , Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home.

RUSSELL L. HARRISON

HAMPTON - Russell L. Harrison, 75, of 206 Spring Creek Lane, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wilbert Trusheim officiating. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery , with military rites conducted by the Dumont American legion Post No. 311.

There will be no visitation. The body will be cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Russell was born July 27, 1924, in Hampton, the son of Dallas M. and Ruth Allen (Artley) Harrison. He graduated from Hampton High School and attended the University of Wisconsin. Russell served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Lila Finnell on Dec. 9, 1944, in San Diego, Calif. Following the service Russell returned to the Hampton area living in Dumont for 14 years. He was involved with the State Bank of Dumont and worked in the banking industry for 40 years retiring in 1992.

Russell was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church, Rotary, American Legion, Anchor Masonic Lodge, Shrine and the Dumont Lions Club.

He loved God, his country and family. He enjoyed golfing, flowers and his yard.

Russell is survived by his wife, Lila Harrison, of Hampton; children, Mary Pierce and her husband, Douglas, of Minneapolis, Minn., Kelly Parks and her husband, Willie, of Forest City, Tim Harrison and his wife, Deborah, of Dumont and Hall Harrison and his wife, Polly, of Cannon Falls, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dallas Harrison, of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dwight Harrison, of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles.

PEDRO SALINAS JR.

CLARION - Pedro Salinas Jr., 44, of Clarion, passed away Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) at the Community Memorial Hospital, in Clarion.

Funeral services for Pedro Salinas Jr. will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Chapel, in Belmond, with Regi Dencklau officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery , in Belmond.

There will be no visitation. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, is in charge of arrangements.

Pedro, the son of Pedro Sr. and Carolina Galindo Salinas, was born Dec. 25, 1954, at Sinton, Texas. At an early age, he moved with his family to East Chicago, Ind. He graduated from Washington High School in East Chicago, Ind. in 1973.

After high school, Pedro attended barber school in Indianapolis, Ind. He then worked as a barber. In 1983 he moved to Denton, Texas where he met and fell in love with his wife, Flora. They were united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1984. Because of ill health, he moved to Belmond in 1994 to be closer to family. He then moved to Clarion in 1998.

Pedro had many loves in his life, his family and friends, his dogs, Molly and Michelle, fishing, cooking, gardening and his true love of neighbor. Because of this love, it moved him to devote 90 hours a month, despite his health problems, telling those neighbors about the good news he learned from the Bible as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Flora; his four children, Pedro III (Pete), of Belmond, Michael, David and Alina Salinas, of Gainesville, Texas; five stepchildren, Cheryl Kempf, of St. Paul, Minn, Warren Johnson, of Spooner, Wis., Greg Johnson, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dawna Ennis, of Belmond, and Darin Johnson, of Andover, Minn.; his mother, Carolina Salinas, of Hammond, Ind.; two sisters, Jovita Salinas-Heredia, of Chesterton, Ind., and Anna Salinas-Sucevic, of Munster, Ind.; two brothers, Roger, of San Marino, Calif. and Florencio, of Largo, Fla.; 16 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Javier, Julien, Celeste, Tania, Amanda, Samantha, Brittany, Dawn, William, Melody, Jeremiah, Tony, Ashley, Dustin, Megan and Madison.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Salinas Sr.; and his mother-in-law, Hazel Hulsman.

DONALD E. OUVERSON

FERTILE - Donald E. Ouverson, 78, of Fertile, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) at the Iowa Veterans Home, in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City, with the Rev. Roger Kampstra, of the Fertile Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery , Fertile

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Friday until time of services at the funeral home.

Donald E. Ouverson was born in Fertile on Oct. 8, 1920, the son of Martin P. and Christina (Erickson) Ouverson. Don graduated from Fertile High School in 1938.

He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from November of 1942 to June of 1945. Following his discharge, Don began a life-long career in sales.

He is survived by five sons, Dennis, Greg, Marty, Garry and Jerry B. Ouverson; two daughters, Sandra Grantz and Karen Sue Richardson; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Ruth Ouverson, of Fertile; a sister, Edna Hill, of Forest City; sister-in-law, Ella Mae Ouverson, of Clear Lake; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Don Payer, of Ames.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard and a sister, Irene Wolter.

GERALDINE BARTSCH

MASON CITY - Geraldine Bartsch, formerly of Fremont, Ind. and Mason City, Iowa, died June 1, 1999, in Denver, Colo. at the age of 95.

Geraldine Pearl McNaughton was born on Jan. 4, 1904, in Ray, Ind., the second of four children of Elnora and Robert C. McNaughton. Jerry was a graduate of the University of Indiana and taught in New Hampshire before moving to Mason City on her 25th birthday. She taught Home Economics at Mason City High School from 1929 to 1939.

In 1939, she married Alvin Bartsch, an Industrial Arts teacher at Roosevelt Junior High School, and they had two children, Richard, born in 1940 and Janet, born in 1944. They also owned a farm near Mankato, Minn. Alvin died in June of 1994. In 1997, Jerry moved to Denver, Colo. to be nearer to her children.

Her interests included fishing, playing bridge, traveling and participating in various study, book and church-related clubs.

Jerry is survived by son, Richard Bartsch, of Jemez Springs, N.M. and daughter, Janet Bartsch, of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Eric Bartsch, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Julie Bartsch, of Boulder, Colo., and Brock Chambers, of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Fred McNaughton, of Glenenden Beach, Ore. and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999 in the First United Methodist Church Chapel, 119 S. Georgia Ave., Mason City, Iowa.

Memorials may be sent to Opportunity Village, P.O. Box V, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428. Cards may be sent to the family in care of Janet Bartsch, 9046 E. Nassau Ave., Denver, Colo. 80237.

RAYMOND LEWIS DOMBROWSKI

MASON CITY - Raymond Lewis Dombrowski, 78, of 711 15th Place N.E., died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. with a scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Raymond Lewis Dombrowski Memorial Fund.

Raymond Lewis Dombrowski was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., son of Stanley and Gertrude Dombrowski. Ray grew up in Chicago and graduated from St. George High School, in Evanston, Ill. He was a weatherman in the 8th Air Force stationed in England.

He married Jean Rose Mary Lambert on Nov. 18, 1947, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. They lived in Chicago for a year following their marriage and then moved to Mason City where Ray worked as a salesman at Borden's for 33 years until retiring in 1980. He then worked part time at the Mason City Shopper, Campbell's Soup and Northrop King Seed Company for the past 11 years.

Ray enjoyed gardening, betting the ponies and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards.

Ray was an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Parish for the past 50 years. He was also a member of the Exchange Club, the VFW and the American Legion. He also volunteered at the Hospital and served as the first male president of the Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Dombrowski, of Mason City; four children, Richard Dombrowski and his wife, Cindy, of Esko, Minn., Deborah Barsness and her husband, Jerry, of Mason City, Robert Dombrowski and his fiancee, Patricia Fitzgerald, of Severna Park, Minn. and Diane Strelow and her husband, Richard, of Golden Valley, Minn.; four grandchildren, Jeremy Barsness, of Iowa City, Amanda Barsness, of Mason City, Nathan Dombrowski, of Esko, Minn., and Colin Strelow, of Golden Valley, Minn. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Dombrowski; and a granddaughter, Emily Barness.
