NORTHWOOD - Charles Lloyd Jones, 86, of Northwood, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at the Northwood Lutheran Retirement Home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.

HELEN M. CAMPBELL MULLIN

DOUGHERTY - Helen M. Campbell Mullin, 87, of Dougherty, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at her daughter's home in Western Springs, Ill.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty, with the Rev. Leo Reilly officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery , Dougherty.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick's Parish hall, Dougherty, with a scriptural wake service following at 5 p.m.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

RUTH IRONS LANE JACOBSEN

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Ruth Irons Lane Jacobsen, 78, of San Antonio, formerly of Rock Island, Ill and Mason City, Iowa, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at the Regent Care Center, San Antonio, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Rock Island, Ill. Burial will be in Rock Island memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, Ill. prior to services at the church.

EVELYN MESCHER GUY

ALGONA - Evelyn Mescher Guy, 71, of Algona, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with Father Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery , Bancroft.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, in Algona with a 3 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. parish prayer service.

DIXIE ANN HAHN

HAMPTON - Dixie Ann Hahn, 47, of Hampton, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Faith Baptist Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery , Allison.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services today at the Church.

EARL STANTON TAYLOR

UKIAH, Calif. - Earl Stanton Taylor, 91, of Ukiah, died in his sleep on Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) at the Sun Bridge Convalescent Care and Rehabilitation Center, Quincy, Calif.

A resident of Quincy, Calif. for the past month, he had moved here from Ukiah, Calif. where he had resided for eight years. He had resided in Mason City, Iowa for over 45 years moving to Florida for a short time following his retirement in 1969.

Earl Stanton Taylor was born Oct. 9, 1907 in Sajw, Ga. He attended Barry College in Rome, Ga.

He owned and operated Taylor's Mobil Service Station for 38 years in Mason City.

A staunch Democrat, he was a former member of the Mason City Masonic Lodge and Shrine.

He is survived by his three daughters, Judith Brooks Buck, of Quincy, Calif., Nancy West, of Clayton, Ga., and Pauline "Polly" Bennallack, of Hopeland, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Opal Wallace, of Gastonia, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Mae Taylor in 1978, in Bradenton, Fla.

Following cremation, the family will hold graveside services will be held in Sautee-Nacoochee, Ga.

The family requests any donations in his memory be made to the Sunbridge Patient Activities Fund c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 53, Quincy, Calif. 95971.

Helen's family suggests that memorials be given in her name to your local hospice.

Helen was born March 17, 1912, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of William and Claudia (Bates) Jessup. She received her GED in 1979.

Helen married James Leon Campbell on June 6, 1934, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty. He died on May 16, 1952.

She married Louis C. Mullin on Dec. 26, 1957.

Helen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Catholic Ladies Auxiliary, Dougherty Senior Citizens, Domestic Club and the Daughters of the Union Veterans. She was a past correspondent for the Sheffield Press, Hampton Chronicle-Times and the Greene Recorder.

She enjoyed crocheting and needlework; also taking part in Dougherty community events and visiting with people.

Helen is survived by three children, Patrick Campbell and his wife Delores, Sun Prairie, Wis., Marlene McAuliffe and her husband Lester, Western Springs, Ill., and Bill Campbell and his wife Shirley, Mason City; four stepchildren, Louis "Jack" Mullin and his wife Adele, Markesan, Wis., Mary Vonne Mullin, Logansville, Ga., Cynthia Mullin, Ankeny, and Deann Lauffer and her husband Vern, Chapin; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Mathews, Lake City, Minn., and Glenita Moore and her husband Don, Oakley, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leon; her parents; two sisters, Gladys Campbell and Mildred McMenimen; and a great-granddaughter.

RAKE - Julius H. Eastvold, 87, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at his home in Rake.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, where other arrangements are incomplete at this time.

CHARLES LLOYD JONES

NORTHWOOD - Charles Lloyd Jones, 86, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Northwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery , Northwood, with military graveside honors by Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post No. 6779 of Northwood.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, with a Masonic service beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Charlie was born in Audubon in Audubon County, Iowa, on May 26, 1913, to Charles and Ethel (Parrott) Jones. He graduated from Audubon High School in 1931, winning awards in football, baseball, basketball and track and field. He joined the National Guard in 1929 and was activated into federal service in the Army in February 1941, where he served with the 168th Infantry, 34th Red Bull Division in World War II. He was captured in Tunisia, North Africa, on Feb. 17, 1943, thereafter spending 27 months as a POW in camps in Poland and Germany. He was liberated on May 21, 1945, and was honorably discharged as captain in February 1946.

On July 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Polson of Creston and in December bought and operated the Dawn Theater in Elma until March 1954 when fire destroyed the theater and other buildings in the town. He moved to Northwood in 1954 and owned and operated the Northwood Theater until 1960. For a short time Charlie served as town clerk, manager of the Northwood Country Club, column writer for the Northwood Anchor, and thereafter was employed by the Iowa Department of Revenue as an auditor. He retired in June 1978.

Charlie was a member of the United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years as well as served on various committees and taught senior high Sunday school in the '60s and '70s. He was a volunteer for and did Red Cross fund-raising and was secretary for the North Iowa Red Cross Chapter from 1986 to 1993. He also was active in the Northeast chapter of ex-POW's and also at the state level.

He served 20 years on the Northwood Park & Recreation Board and many years on the Zoning Board. He was a member of the NIACC Foundation Board from 1986 to 1994. He also served as chairman of the Viking Manor board from 1979 to 1994. He helped to start a local young men's DeMolay chapter and served as its "Dad" in the Northwood Masonic Temple in the '60s and received the DeMolay Legion of Merit Award in 1971. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was also awarded the T.S. Parvin Award for Iowa Masonry and was a member of Northern Lights Masonic Lodge No. 266 as well as VFW Post 6779.

In 1981 he received the T.U.N.E. award for community service to Northwood.

Charlie's voice could be heard all over Northwood in the '60s and '70s when he served as announcer for play-by-play at local high school football games as well as church league softball games in Swensrud Park.

He was an avid golfer, making two holes-in-one over the years. Charlie enjoyed reading, writing, poetry, classical music, good conversation, his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. In 1978 he wrote and had published a book about his POW experiences.

Survivors include his wife Myrtle of Northwood; one son Warren of Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Janis Hendrickson and her husband Chuck of Lake Mills, Eloise Aldrich and her husband Dwight of Glenville, Carol Jones of Stockton, and Lavonne Sporney and her husband Dave of St. Paul, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Rubie Stofferson and her husband Reno of Harlan, and Helen Mense of St. Peters, Mo.; a brother Ralph of Audubon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Louis; and a sister Gertrude, who died in infancy.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, Northwood; North Iowa Chapter of the Red Cross; the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood; American Parkinson's Disease Association; or Hospice of North Iowa.
