CECELIA L. SIMPSON

MASON CITY - Cecelia L. Simpson, 79, of 206 26th St. S.W., died Sunday (Sept. 12, 1999) at Sunbridge Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Michael Schueller of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday and continue until time of services at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel.

Cecelia Louise Simpson was born Jan. 17, 1920, the daughter of John and Blanche (Bryant) Gagnon.

She married Wilbur Craig in 1941, at Mason City. After his death, she married Arnold Simpson in 1976, at Mason City.

Cecelia loved to crochet, sew, bake and work in her garden. She also painted and drew pictures and made pottery and dishes. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ.

Cecelia was employed by the state as a foster mother. She also belonged to sewing clubs and card clubs in the past.

Survivors include four children, Dennis Craig, of Aredale, John Craig and his wife, Joyce, of Mason City, Julie Trumble, of Clear Lake, and Penny Portis, of Mason City; grandchildren, Lonnie Craig, of Ames, Sherry Craig and Jamie Craig, of Radcliffe, Eric Jacobsen, Rachael Craig and Cory Craig, of Mason City, Daryl Peckham and Joshua Trumble, of Clear Lake, Andrew Portis and Katie Portis, of Mason City; and one brother, Charles Gagnon, of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands; and one brother, John Gagnon.

VERNA L. SKILLEN

GREENE - Funeral services for Verna L. Skillen, 69, of 11196 Grand Ave., Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Greene.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a public scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Verna Loretta Schoolcraft was born April 24, 1930, in rural Renwick, Wright County, a daughter of Verne P. and Sarah O. (Schlegal) Schoolcraft, and died Sunday (Sept. 12, 1999) at her home in rural Greene.

In 1936, the family moved to Charles City and later to rural Chickasaw County, where she received her education at the Dresden Township Country School and graduated from the New Hampton High School in 1949. Following graduation, she became employed at Northwestern Bell in Charles City as a telephone operator.

On Jan. 14, 1951, she was united in marriage to Glen Eugene Skillen at Calvary Baptist Church in Charles City. They made their home on the Skillen family farm west of Greene. When Glen entered the United States Army, Verna accompanied him while stationed at Camp Gordon, Fort Augusta, Ga., and Fort Monmouth, N.J. Following his discharge they returned to the farm.

Verna was employed as a housekeeper for Greene area families for many years. She had been employed by the Clyde Stuntz family for more than 35 years. Her interests included collecting antiques, going to rummage sales and garage sales, flower gardening and sewing. She also enjoyed watching her T.V. shows which included Wheel of Fortune, The Bold and The Beautiful, Lawrence Welk, and 60 Minutes. She was confirmed a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church on March 14, 1951, and was a member of WELCA and the Westside Club.

Living family members include her husband, Glen, of Greene; two sons, David and Jason, both of Greene; two sisters, Darlene and her husband, Harold Swartzrock, of Charles City, and Doris Bettesworth of Ettrick, Wis.; and one brother, Edgar and his wife, Rosemary Schoolcraft, of Forest City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Grace Gray.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Verna L. Skillen Memorial Fund in care of the family.

CHARLES CITY - Archie G. Blunt, 95, of 1207 "D" Street, Charles City, died Tuesday (Sept. 14, 1999) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

VIOLET FRIEBERG

RICEVILLE - Violet Frieberg, 84, of Riceville, died Monday (Sept. 13, 1999) at her daughter's home in Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Lutheran Church of Chester, Chester. Interment will be in the Saratoga Cemetery , Saratoga.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, 401 East Main, Riceville.

NANCY LEE GROTH

MASON CITY - Nancy Lee Groth, 64, of 636 S. Tennessee Place, died Monday (Sept. 13, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils "Chris" Hellevik officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Mercy Cancer Center.

Nancy was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Iowa City, the daughter of Melvin J. and Gladys (Jenkins) Wilson. She graduated from Mason City High School.

On Sept. 12, 1954, she married Dale R. Groth at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Nancy worked as a paraprofessional at Hoover Elementary School and her last employment was office manager at the Cerro Gordo County attorney's office. She retired in 1997.

Nancy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, TTT Society and she was active in Bridge Club. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Dale R. Groth of Mason City; two children, Lori Tierney and her husband Tom of Minnetonka, Minn., and Richard Groth and his wife Sharon of Mason City; four grandchildren, Aron, Christopher, Megan and Kelsie; one brother, Melvin Wilson Jr. of Mason City; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Raymond Groth and his wife Jean of Mason City, and Paul Groth and his wife Mary of Ellendale, Minn.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.

KATHLEEN ELEANOR BOCK

IOWA FALLS - Kathleen Eleanor Bock, 87, of Iowa Falls, passed away Saturday (Sept. 11, 1999) at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational U.C.C., Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Paul Schultz officiating. Eastern Star and White Shrine will take part in the memorial services. There will be no burial.

Surls Funeral Home, 505 Stevens St., Iowa Falls, is in charge of arrangements.

Kathleen Bock was born on Aug. 14, 1912, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Roy and Martha Dillon Evers. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1930 and graduated from Ellsworth Junior College.

She was united in marriage to Arthur L. Bock on March 25, 1933, in Ames. She was a Legal Secretary during the '30s. She had been employed as a secretary at the First Congregational U.C.C. Church.

She was a past matron and secretary of the Eastern Star which she joined in 1933, Past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine which she joined in 1944, Secretary-Treasurer of the Masonic Temple Association and the Iowa Falls Women's Club.

She is survived by one daughter, the Rev. Dianne Bock Christopher of Charles City; two granddaughters, R. Dawn Grier of Waterloo and Sara Katherine Christopher, of Englewood, Colo.; one grandson, Christopher Arthur Grier of Cedar Falls; and a great-grandson, Shaquille Christopher of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur in 1973; and a brother, Dillon Evers.

CLARA K. BOOMGARDEN RAISTY

GREENE - Clara K. Boomgarden Raisty, 80, of 301 E. Ely St., Greene, died Tuesday (Sept. 14, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center, Greene.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene.

JORDAN DOUGLAS MONTGOMERY

BENTON, Ark. - Jordan Douglas Montgomery, infant son of Mike and Lisa Montgomery, 2001 Robinwood, Benton, Ark. 72015, died Friday (Sept. 9, 1999).

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 11, at Ashby's Chapel, Benton, Ark., with the Rev. Andrew Toopes officiating. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery.

Ashby's Chapel, Benton, Ark. was in charge of arrangements.

Jordan is survived by his parents, Mike and Lisa Montgomery, of Benton, Ark.; two sisters, Jenifer and Juli Roberts, of Benton, Ark.; one brother, Michael Ray Montgomery, of Benton, Ark.; grandmother, Mary Montgomery, of Mason City; grandparents, Tom and Wanda Montgomery, of Alexander; and great-grandmother, Edith Abrahams, of Northwood. Other relatives include Lori Montgomery and Liz, of Mason City, Jim and Amy Felper, Jake and Nate, of Osage, and Tina Montgomery, of Cedar Rapids.

BRITT - Daisy Ellis, 93, of Britt, died Wednesday (Sept. 15, 1999) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.
