EDWARD PAUL AHRENS

OSAGE - Edward Paul Ahrens, 88, of Osage died Thursday (Sept. 16, 1999) at the Faith Home, in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Eden Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Edward was born Sept. 23, 1910 in Rosemont, Neb., the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Henry J. Ahrens. He graduated from Lawrence (Nebraska) High School.

Edward was united in marriage to Lena Lampman on June 7, 1933 at Rosemont, Neb. He farmed in the rural Rudd and Floyd area all of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Lena, of Osage; twin sons, Donell Ahrens and his wife, Pat, of Mason City and Berdell Ahrens and his wife, Wave, of Rudd; two daughters, Vonda Lee Schmidt and her husband, Richard, of Lodi, Wis. and Dorothy Lesch and her husband, James, of Brentwood, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. Milton Ahrens, of Duluth, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one brother.

EDWIN V. ALBERS

BUFFALO CENTER - Edwin V. Albers, 74, of Buffalo Center, died Thursday (Sept. 16, 1999) at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Craig Steimel officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery , Buffalo Center, with military honors conducted by the American Legion/VFW Color Guard of Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. N.W., Buffalo Center and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Edwin Vernon Albers was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Buffalo Center, son of Theodore and Elizabeth (Roth) Albers. He married Patricia Higgins on Aug. 1, 1946, in West Bend.

Ed served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He then drove truck for his father until 1965, when he became a self-employed electrician. He worked until 1994 when he retired because of illness. He was diagnosed with Picks Disease and has resided at the Iowa Veterans Home since 1995.

He enjoyed woodworking and has made many things for his granddaughters. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include two children, Linda Steinberg, of LeRoy, Minn., and Mike Albers and his wife, Linda, of Cordova, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Brenda Larsen and her fiance, Jay Gaskill, of Adams, Minn., Tricia Garry and her husband, Victor, of Mason City, Diane Adams and her husband, Paul, of Thompson, and Mindy Steinberg and her special friend, Ande Klapperich, of Mason City; five great-grandsons, Jake and Tanner Larsen, both of Adams, Minn., Cade Gaskill, of Adams, Minn., and Dylan and Dalton Adams, of Thompson; three brothers, Gerald Albers and his wife, Sally, of Janesville, Wis., Don Albers and his wife, Marilyn, of Bloomfield, Colo. and Dennis Albers and his wife, Jo, of Albia; two sisters, Arlene Field and her husband, Roger, of Ankeny, and Gladys Sheldon, of Clear Lake; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat; one brother, Merrill Albers; and one sister, Dorothy Koestler.

LEIN E. SNELL

MASON CITY - Lein E. Snell, 78, of 38 11th St. N.E., died Thursday (Sept. 16, 1999) at his summer home at 481 N. Shore Dr., in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Sharon Betsworth officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be no visitation as it was his wish to be cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to North Central Iowa Red Cross or Mayo Medical Center-Mayo Foundation, 200 S. W. First St., Rochester, Minn. 55905.

Lein was born Dec. 29, 1920 in Mason City, the son of Lewis E. and Gladys (Wiley) Snell. He attended Mason City schools where he played the saxophone in the high school band.

Lein was married to Charlotte Storer on Aug. 25, 1940, at the First United Methodist Church parsonage in Mason City. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Oct. 5, 1943 until his discharge on Nov. 26, 1945. After his discharge, he returned to Mason City to rejoin the family business, Snell's Service, Inc. retiring in 1985. They spent the past several winters at their home in Mesa, Ariz. and their summers at their home in Clear Lake.

Lein won the Mason City Sertoma Club's Service to Mankind award in 1975 and he was the recipient of the Daniel G. Klempnauer Award during the band festival in 1996. He and the Snell family have been strong supporters of the Mason City Foundation.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former chairman of the North Central Iowa Red Cross and former member of the Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Snell; son, Lee E. Snell and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Mason City; daughter, Joan Snell, of Mason City; grandsons, Loren E. Snell and his wife, Chamaine, of Salina, Kan., and Andrew Snell, of Oxford, Neb.; and one great-grandson, Reid Snell, of Salina, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Snell, in 1941.

BEVERLY L. MCDONALD

GREENE - Beverly L. McDonald, 60, of 103 N. High Street, died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1999) at her home.

The offering of the traditional Latin Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greene, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , Greene.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene. At 3:30 p. m. a holy Rosary with the Joyful Mysteries will be conducted by the Third Order of Lay Carmelites, at 5 p.m. a holy Rosary with the Sorrowful Mysteries will recited, and at 7 p.m. the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be recited followed by the holy Rosary with the Glorious Mysteries.

Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, is in charge of arrangements.

KENNETH GUTTERMAN

MASON CITY -Kenneth Gutterman, 73, of 116 16th St. SE, died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatients Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, and will resume one hour prior to the services at the church Wednesday.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory.

EVELYN FLORENCE (BARNETT) HARMAN

DES MOINES - Evelyn Florence (Barnett) Harman, 90, of 600 E. Fifth St., formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1999) at Heather Manor in Des Moines.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Heather Manor, Des Moines, with Dr. Kenneth H. Ahntholz officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Oakwood Cemetery , in Plymouth, with the Rev. Debra Stowers officiating.

Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Heather Manor Friendship Fund.

Evelyn Florence Barnett Harman was born May 25, 1909, in Cumberland, daughter of Reu Lee and Florence Evelyn (Cady) Barnett.

She had lived in Des Moines since 1980. She had spent most of her life in Mason City. She was a school teacher, then gave private organ and piano instructions. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church. She belonged to the PEO Chapter KT in Des Moines.

Evelyn is survived by one sister, Doris Moore, of Newton; and two nieces.

RUBY G. BOHNSACK

ROCKFORD - Ruby G. Bohnsack, 87, formerly of 501 W. Main St., Rockford, died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Rockford, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Inurnment will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , Mason City.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Rockford or the Rockford Public Library in Ruby's name.

Ruby was born Jan. 30, 1912, the daughter of John Thomas and Frances (Theobald) Fenton in Onawa. Ruby later graduated from Mason City Junior College and Wartburg College.

On July 11, 1942, Ruby was united in marriage to Raymond Bohnsack in Abilene, Texas.

Ruby began her teaching career in the Cerro Gordo and Floyd county rural schools before teaching at the Rockford elementary. Ruby enjoyed volunteering her time at the Senior Center and with different church functions. In her spare time, Ruby enjoyed crafts, gardening and her cats.

Ruby was a member of the Rockford Library Board as secretary/treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockford.

Those thankful for having shared Ruby's life include two nieces, Mrs. John (Carmen) Tourville, of Green Bay, Wis., J.L. (Nada) Reuss, of Haines City, Fla.; two nephews, Jack and his wife, Nancy Fenton, of Hancock, Mich.; and Fred Fenton, of Littleton, Colo.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond, in January of 1984; three brothers, Claude, Leo and Harry Fenton; one niece, Judith Fenton Boman; and one nephew, Harry Fenton.
