DORIS KAY SEIFERT

JOICE - Doris Kay Seifert, 63, of Joice, died Monday (Sept. 20, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Madison Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.Doris Kay Seifert was born on Dec. 7, 1935, at Cambridge, the daughter of Martin Emo and Marguerite Olive (Johnson) Christensen. She graduated from Lake Mills High School and later received a bachelor's degree in computer programming.

Doris was united in marriage to Wayne Edwin Seifert on March 14, 1958, in Blue Earth, Minn. They moved to Joice in 1982. Wayne passed away in May of 1985.

Doris worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City as a computer programmer for 12 years. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting and gardening, but family was most important to her, she was referred to as "the laces that held our shoe (family) together."

She is survived by her mother, Marguerite Christensen, of Lake Mills; her sister, JoAnn Arndt, of Joice; her brother, Jerry and his wife, Janet Christensen, of Shueyville; her five children, Marti and her husband, Darwin Lee, of Lake Mills, James and his wife, Darla Seifert, of Big Fork, Minn., David and his wife, Renae Seifert, of Austin, Minn., Mark and his wife, Mary Seifert, of Juliette, Ga., and Paul and his wife, Christie Seifert, of Jackson, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; along with many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; and her father in 1986.

BEVERLY L. MCDONALD

GREENE - An offering of the traditional Latin Mass for Beverly L. McDonald, 60, of 103 N. High, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, where the Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary will be recited by the Third Order of Lay Carmelites at 3:30 p.m.; the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 7 p.m. followed by the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

Beverly Louise Armstrong was born June 19, 1939, at Burr Oak, the second child of Raymond Lee and Mae Frances (Hanlon) Armstrong, and died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1999) at her home in Greene.

She received her education in the rural and public schools in Canton, Minn., and graduated from Canton High School in 1958. She was a graduate of the Paris Beauty College in Cedar Rapids and was employed as a beauty operator before going to California.

On Feb. 9, 1963, she was united in marriage to John A. "Jack" McDonald at St. Anthony's Church in Long Beach. They lived in California for six months before moving to Center Junction, where she operated a beauty shop there. In 1969, they moved to Cresco and later to Elma before moving to Greene in 1973.

She worked outside the home doing domestic cleaning and helping with personal care of people in the Greene area. Beverly graduated from NIACC in 1991. She participated in the Hospice Volunteer program from 1993 to 1995 and became a part of the program in February of 1999. She couldn't say enough good about the Hospice Program and the people in it.

Her interests included flower gardening, refinishing and redecorating her home. Beverly enjoyed living in a small town and its warm and friendly people.

Beverly made the Total Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Dec. 8, 1992, and was received by the Lay Carmelite Order in August of 1993, in which she was still a member.

Living family members include her husband, John A. "Jack" McDonald, of Greene; two daughters and their spouses, Shawn and Boyd Barth, of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Stacie and Joe Breitbach, of Monticello; three sons, J.C. McDonald, of Des Moines, Jamie and his wife, Melanie McDonald, of Cedar Rapids, and Joe McDonald, of Greene; five grandchildren, Alysa and Reanna Barth, Zachary and Danielle McDonald and Clint Breitbach; her mother, Mae Armstrong, of Rochester; two sisters, Rowene and her husband, Robert DeFang, of Rochester, and Dorothy Armstrong, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; two brothers and their spouses, Leo and Sharyn Armstrong, of Dexter, N.M., and Francis and Linda Armstrong, of Oronoco, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Lee Armstrong, on Nov. 9, 1985.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Beverly L. McDonald Memorial Fund in care of the family.

KENNETH E. GUTTERMAN

MASON CITY - Kenneth E. Gutterman, 73, of 116 16th St. S.E., died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils "Chris" Hellevik officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , with full military rites by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to KCMR Radio or Hospice of North Iowa.

Ken was born May 19, 1926, in Mason City, the son of Verner and Alma (Maass) Gutterman. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1944. Ken served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star for the Battle of the Bulge. Ken was discharged in 1946, attained his pilot license in 1947 and graduated from Hamilton Business College in 1949.

Ken worked at International Harvester as an accountant for 17 years in Mason City and for Iowa Kemper Insurance Company as an adjuster for two years in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Lock Photography from 1969 to 1980. Ken then worked out of his home as a professional photographer, operating Ken Gutterman Photo until 1997. He worked as a custodian at John Adams Middle School from 1982-1995.

He married Evelyn Rasmussen on Sept. 25, 1971, at Clear Lake.

Ken was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he ushered for many years. He was a former member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was treasurer for 21 years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Kiwanis Club, Professional Photography Association, Danish Brotherhood Lodge, where he served as district treasurer, Hawkeye Camera Club and KCMR volunteer since 1979. He also enjoyed visiting his daughters in Arizona and Washington.

Ken is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Mason City; two daughters, Kay Gutterman, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Kim Gutterman, of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Vernon Gutterman and his wife, Lois, of Miami, Fla.; one niece, Vicki Mears and her husband, Tony, of Miami, Fla.; one nephew, Scott Gutterman, of Miami, Fla.; one great-niece, Abby Mears, of Miami, Fla.; and several cousins.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Phyllis, in 1946.

MATHILDE BRUMMUND

KANAWHA - Mathilde Brummund, 88, of Kanawha, died Monday (Sept. 20, 1999) at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Kanawha.

MATHILDE "TILLIE" BRUMMUND

KANAWHA - Mathilde "Tillie" Brummund, 88, of Kanawha, died Monday (Sept. 20, 1999) at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kanawha United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Susan Detwiler officiating. Burial will take place in Amsterdam Cemetery , Kanawha.

There will be no visitation. The family will greet friends after the funeral services on Thursday.

Tillie was born July 12, 1911, at Cleaves, Iowa, the daughter of Sam and Anna (Hendricks) Janssen. She graduated from Ackley High School in 1928. She was a graduate of Coe College of Cedar Rapids in 1932. She taught in the Kanawha Community Schools.

She was united in marriage to John Brummund on June 1, 1939. They made their home in Kanawha. As a couple they participated in many community activities. They were involved with Youth Activity Day. They were instrumental in establishing the Pony Express Ride in North Central Iowa for Camp Sunnyside. Tillie and her husband coined the phrase, "We ride that crippled children can walk," dedicated to the memory of their grandson, Bobby Swyter.

She was a member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, the PTA and a Band Booster. She belonged to the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at Coe College.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara and her husband, Gary Swyter, of San Dimas, Calif. and their daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Gary Souza and their children Nicholas, Kelly, and Garrett; and their son, Steve Swyter and his wife, Wendy; a daughter, Mary and her husband, Ron De Lerenzo, of Cochran, Ga. and their two daughters, Joy and her husband, David Stanley, and Amy De Lerenzo; a sister, Lillian Thompson, of Mountain Home, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Holloway, of Kanawha; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; and a grandson, Robert Swyter; and a brother, Henry.

ROCK FALLS - Delita M. Kendrew, 94, of Rock Falls, died Monday (Sept. 20, 1999) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Old Stone United Methodist Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers and the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in Rock Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Mason City, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
