EVELYN HARRIET HELGESON

NORTHWOOD - Evelyn Harriet Helgeson, 83, of Northwood, died Friday (Oct. 1, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, in Northwood.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer and the Rev. Alan Stoa officiating. Inurnment will be in the South Shell Rock Cemetery , rural Northwood.

Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. on Sunday at the First Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

According to her wishes, her body was cremated.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Harriet Helgeson was born on Feb. 23, 1916, in rural Worth County, Iowa, near Northwood, the daughter of Lars and Anna (Numedahl) Butler. She attended and received her education in the rural Worth County school systems. After completing her education she did house cleaning for various families in Worth County. She was united in marriage to Hendlyn "Hank" Helgeson on Jan. 14, 1939, in Allison, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1967.

During her life Evelyn worked at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood for 17 years as a nurses aide until her retirement in 1986.

She enjoyed baking, flowers and canning fruits and vegetables, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood and the church circle.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lou Ann Mattick and her husband, Ted, of Kiester, Minn.; her son, Harlan Helgeson, of Northwood; seven grandchildren, Craig Mattick and his wife, Faith, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Diane Nelson and her husband, Charles, of Zumbrota, Minn., Alan Mattick and his wife, Julie, of Wells, Minn., Dean Mattick and his wife, Barbara, of Austin, Minn., Lisa Helgeson, of St. Paul, Minn., Michael Helgeson, of Ames, and Jordan Helgeson, of Northwood; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Harris, Arlene Tenold, and Opal Tenold, all of Northwood.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents.

VERGIE PARKER

MASON CITY - Vergie Parker, 70, 115 7th St. S.W., died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) at St. Mary s Hospital, in Rochester.

Funeral services are tentatively planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E., Mason City. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

HERBERT J. LESTER

CLARION - Herbert J. Lester, 76, of Clarion, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) at the USA Healthcare, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First Lutheran Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery , Clarion.

Visitation was held on Friday at the Willim Funeral Home, in Clarion.

Herbert John Lester was born on March 13, 1923, to Herbert and Harriet Louise (Poolman) Lester, on a farm near Rowan. The family moved to Clarion in 1936. He attended and graduated from the Clarion High School in 1940. He was inducted into the service in January of 1941. Herbert served in France and England. While he was in England, he became acquainted with several cousins and family who lived in England. He was discharged in November of 1945. He was then employed as a farm hand.

In August of 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothea McNamara. They resided in Clarion all their married lives. Herb was employed by the Wright County Road Department until mid 1964, when he then became employed by the Community Memorial Hospital. He retired in 1985.

Herb enjoyed golfing, saw-sharpening, playing cards and loved clocks and trains.

Herb was a member of the Clarion V.F.W., a member of the First Lutheran Church, serving as the church trustee, and also drove school bus.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothea; four children, Maureen Pearson, of Bettendorf, Karen Stromsness and husband, Roger, of Garland, Texas, Craig Lester, of Omaha, Neb. and Dave Lester and his wife, Shirley, of Slater; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, George "Bob" and Bill Lester, both of Clarion; a sister, Betty Olson, of Garretson, S.D.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by both parents, brother, Vernon, infant brother, Lawrence, and infant sister, Harriet.

BENJAMIN SCOTT MEINTS

BELMOND - Benjamin Scott Meints, infant son of Rodney and Lisa Meints, of Belmond, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Friday at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and it will resume one hour prior to services today at the church.

Benjamin Scott Meints, the son of Rodney and Lisa (Brinton) Meints, was born on March 22, 1999, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City. He was baptized with his twin brother, Nicholas, on Aug. 22, 1999, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Belmond.

Ben was a special child who brought a world of joy to his family and friends. He was a precious gift that will be loved and remembered forever.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Rodney and Lisa Meints, of Belmond; a sister, Merissa; three brothers, Austin Meints, Taylor Meints, and his twin brother, Nicholas Meints; grandparents, Homer and Ann Brinton, of Belmond, David and Karen Crawford, of Belmond and Allen and Barb Meints, of Clear Lake; great-grandparents, Harold and Viola Watkins, of Belmond; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Jack and Ode Meints, Scott and Mabel Brinton, and Morgan Andrew and Anna Hill.

CLARENCE STADTLANDER

MESERVEY - Clarence Stadtlander, 74, of Meservey, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) in rural Franklin County.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will take place in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, in Belmond.

IRENE H. ELBERT

ALGONA - Irene H. "Irish" Elbert, 78, of Algona, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) at Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, Algona, with the Rev. Rob Hart officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery , Irvington, with graveside military rites by the VFW and the American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 go 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

BRITT - Madeline L. Dewey, 74, of Britt, died Friday (Oct. 1, 1999) at the Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Britt, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

GREENE - Paul F. Wunsch, 88, of 404 N. Bluff, died Friday (Oct. 1, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center, Greene.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery , Greene.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, with a public scripture at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

ROCKWELL - Jacalyn M. Hartwigsen, 46, formerly of Rockwell, died Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at her home at 16212 NE 30th Ave., Ridgefield, Wash.
