VERGIE M. PARKER
MASON CITY - Vergie M. Parker, 70, of 115 Seventh St. SW, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. SE, Mason City. Officiating will be the Rev. Walter Jones and Dwight Webster. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home.

Vergie was born on March 1, 1929, at Ruston, La., the daughter of Bosey and Daisy (Dunn) Stringfellow. She attended school in Louisiana and moved to Manly, Iowa, where she lived with her aunt and uncle while working at the Greyhound Bus Depot in Mason City. She moved to Mason City in 1952.
She met her future husband and was united in marriage to Jesse Parker Sr. on July 3, 1954. To this marriage was born three children.
She was employed doing domestic work for area residents and businesses. When she was able she crocheted and played piano at home.
As an active member of St. John's Baptist Church, she could often be found doing a little bit of everything around the church. She loved her grand and great-grandchildren whom she often referred to as "her babies."
Those thankful in sharing Vergie's life include her two daughters, Lucinda and Sandra Parker; her son, Jesse Jr., all of Mason City; four sisters, Farris of Louisiana, Novell of Arkansas, Honey and her husband, Charlie, and Arzell; one brother, Osie and his wife, Shirley, all of Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Shawnatasa, Desmond, Samantha, Tavar, Cameo, Jordan and Isaiah; and five great-grandchildren, Shedida, Bryce, Tarrance, Devon and Shymari.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse Sr. in 1988; one grandson, Jason in 1996; three brothers; and one sister.

THOMAS 'CLAIRE' RYE
HANLONTOWN - Thomas 'Claire' Rye, 83, of rural Hanlontown, died Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown with Rev. David Werges officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery , Hanlontown.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.
The family of Thomas "Claire" Rye has requested that memorial contributions be made to Grace Lutheran Church Roof Fund or to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.
Thomas "Claire" Rye was born on Sept. 2, 1916, in Hanlontown in Worth County, the son of Thomas and Christena (Trustem) Rye. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown. He received his education in the Hanlontown school system, graduating from Hanlontown High School in 1933.
After completing his schooling, he began farming in the Hanlontown area. He was united in marriage to Viola Eilertson on June 9, 1946, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiester, Minn. After their marriage they continued to farm in the Hanlontown area where he farmed all of his life.
He enjoyed farming, traveling, reading, Jumble Puzzles in the paper, and visiting with his many friends, but his great love and enjoyment was his church, family and grandchildren. Claire was also a very generous person to his family and community. His friends were "glad to have known him." Claire was blessed with the qualities he received from both of his parents. From his father he received industriousness and from his mother, gentleness and patience.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown and was a former member of the church council and past president, former member of the Hanlontown Elevator Board and a member of the Farm Bureau.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Viola Rye, of Hanlontown; three children, Clayton Rye and his wife, Suzzanne, of Hanlontown, Carol Rye of Mason City, and Julie Dostal and her husband, Ray, of Bloomington, Ill.; six grandchildren, Sarah Rye of St. Paul, Minn., Amy Rye of Mason City, Richard Rye of Hanlontown, Andrew Olson of Mason City, Jennifer Dostal of Washington, D.C., and Daniel Dostal of Normal, Ill.; a sister, June Ilg of Woodruff, Wis.; special friend, Robert "Butch" Niemi whom the family fondly refers to as another son; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

BELMOND - Omar Hanson, 81, of Ames, formerly of Belmond, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 1999) at the Grand Ave. Care Center, Ames.

ROCKWELL - Jacalyn M. Curley Hartwigsen, 46, formerly of Rockwell, died Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at her home at 16212 NE 30th Ave., Ridgefield, Wash.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce E. Wittern officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.

WILMA A. HINTZ
OSAGE - Wilma A. Hintz, 86, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 1999) at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.
Visitation will be for one hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Wilma was born March 8, 1913, in Charles City, the daughter of Albert and Clara (Pudil) Kreger. She was educated in Charles City schools and graduated from Charles City High School.
Wilma received her Teaching Certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught in country schools in the Charles City area.
Wilma married Harold Hintz. They farmed in the Floyd and Orchard areas until 1973 when they retired and moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz. Harold died in 1975. Wilma continued to live in Prescott Valley until 1995 when she became a resident at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
She is survived by her special friends, Burrell and Clara Belle Raymond of rural Orchard.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

MASON CITY - Edward L. Purcell, 82, died Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at his daughter's home in Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with the Rev. John W. Hemann officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery
with graveside military rites conducted by the Clear Lake Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a scriptural wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday.
