EDWARD L. PURCELL
MASON CITY - Edward L. Purcell, 82, of Mason City, passed away Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at his daughter's home in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, with Father John W. Hemann officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery , with graveside military rites conducted by the Clear Lake Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
Edward Leroy Purcell, the son of Francis Stephen and Winnifred (Gaskill) Purcell, was born Aug. 4, 1917, on the family farm in Fertile Township. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1936.
On March 11, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and served his country at Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. He was discharged on Oct. 8, 1945. In 1942, he was married to Elvira Arbuckle. To this union a son, Michael Edward Purcell, was born. On Nov. 8, 1950, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Gagnon at Garner.
Edward managed the Fertile Creamery for 10 years and then farmed in the Fertile and Clear Lake area until retiring in 1984 and moving to Mason City.
He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and outdoor activities with his family.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, Trailrider's Club and the Clear Lake V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Purcell, of Garner; their children, Donald Purcell and his wife, Lois, of Garner, and their children, Pamela Marie and Patricia Kay, Cynthia Kofron and her husband, Rick, of Forest City, and their children, Mandi and Amy, and Jean Purcell, of Minneapolis.; a daughter-in-law, Teri Purcell, of Minneapolis; and his son, Michael Purcell and his wife, Marti, of Buena Park, Calif., and their children, Dawn and Dena; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Hain, of Minneapolis; and a brother, Dale Purcell and his wife, Rosella, of Lakeland, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Wayne Allan Purcell and Steven Ray Purcell; three brothers, Glen Purcell, Pat Purcell and Mike Purcell; and a sister, Marguerite Oswald.

RAPHAEL THILGES
ALGONA - Raphael "Ray" Thilges, 82, of Algona, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery , Algona.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Harris Funeral Home, 403 E. McGregor St., with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

ERNEST F. BOBEK
CLINTON - Ernest F. Bobek, 76, of Clinton, formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 1999) at home.
A private memorial service will be held at the Pape Funeral Home, Clinton. There will be no visitation.

ROGER L. KRAUSE
ST. ANSGAR - Roger L. Krause, 88, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward
Schmidt
officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Roger L. Krause was born on Dec. 16, 1912, near Rudd, to Wesley and Lottie (Dowd) Krause. He grew up in the Rudd area, graduating from Rudd High School in 1930. Roger married Vera Blunt on Dec. 10, 1935, in Mason City. They farmed for 17 years in the Rudd and Otranto areas, owned a hardware store in Carpenter, and was a partner in the Carpenter Lumber Yard.
Roger played with several baseball teams in his younger years. He spent his retirement years at the Little Ponderosa Resort, Longville, Minn., enjoying gardening and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, of St. Ansgar; two sons, Norris Krause and special friend, Shirley Severson, of Longville, Minn.; and Marvin Krause, of Aurelia; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; two sisters, Ruth Burlingham and Vivian Orr; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Krause.

CLIFF J. CARLSON
WESLEY - Cliff J. Carlson, 81, of Wesley, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, Algona, with Pastor David Ullom officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery , Algona.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Titonka.
RICHARD DANIEL WILLIAM TIETZ
MANLY - Richard Daniel William Tietz, 91, of Manly, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, with the Rev. Pamela Flanigan of the Grace United Methodist Church of Mason City officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Richard Daniel William Tietz was born on Dec. 24, 1907, in Manly, the son of William F. and Lena (Benjegerdes) Tietz. He attended and received his education in the Danville No. 6 rural school near Manly. After completing his schooling, he started farming with his father three miles west of Manly.
He was united in marriage to Edna Gallion on Feb.1, 1933, at the Gallion family home by the Rev. Carl Rest, pastor of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in Manly. After their marriage they farmed for 27 years on the D.B. Logeman farm, which is the third generation of Tietzes that farmed on that farm. They also farmed on the William Gallion family farm for 10 years until 1969, when they moved into Manly. Richard also worked at the Plymouth Elevator for 6 1/2 years.
After his retirement, he helped his nephews on their farm for 16 years. Richard was very active in church and civic organizations in the community, some of which included township trustee in Manly, director of the Danville No. 6 school system and president of the Manly Senior Citizens. In his earlier years he served as president of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed church at the time it closed. Richard and Edna joined the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, in 1959 and he served as funeral usher for the church for many years.
Richard and Edna were twice Grand Marshall of the Manly Railroad Ag Days.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, flowers, bowling and hunting, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, Manly Senior Citizens Center, Manly Camera Club, Farm Bureau, Manly Cemetery
Board and the Manna Organization in Manly.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Edna Tietz, of Manly; five daughters, Laura Mae Roffman and her husband, Robert, of Postville, Rose Marie Lamprecht and her husband, Dale, of Charles City, Darlene Weitzel and her husband, Leroy, of Mason City, Janice Cooper and her husband, Richard, of Nora Springs, and Linda Lutzke and her husband, Leland, of Big Lake, Minn.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Iona Hartman, of Griswold, and Helen Hartman, of Grafton; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Loren Richard, who died in infancy; and 10 brothers and sisters.

MASON CITY - Eunice S. Stangler, 79, of 1002 Second St. N.E., died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

ROZELLA BURKE
Thompson - Rozella Burke, 90, of Richfield, Minn., formerly of Thompson, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) at her home in Richfield.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, with the Rev. Marilyn Peters officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery
in Thompson.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home.
Rozella Burke was born in Hardin County on May 23, 1909, the daughter of Peter and Sarah (Peterson) Burke. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. When she was a young girl she moved with her family to Thompson. There she received her education and graduated from Thompson High School.
Rozella worked as a bookkeeper at Lockrem Implement and REA in Thompson for several years. She later moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for a hardware wholesale firm until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Richfield, Minn.
She is survived by nephews, Bob and Gene Christianson, of Thompson; other nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Anna Burke, of Forest City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Clifford, Roy, Sam, Martin and Melvin Burke; and four sisters, Anna Faber, Maggie Charlson, Pearl Christianson and Mamie Burke.

RICEVILLE - Cora Lenth, 90, of Riceville, died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
