WILLIAM 'BILL' BERNARD LYGHTNER

MASON CITY - William 'Bill' Bernard Lyghtner, 84, formerly of 500 S. Van Buren, died Wednesday (Oct. 6, 1999) at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with Dwight Webster officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

MILTON EUGENE 'GENE' WAMSTAD

NORA SPRINGS - Milton Eugene "Gene" Wamstad, 83, of rural Nora Springs, died Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Ave., Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery , Nora Springs.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Nora Springs Ambulance Service, Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit or Eden Presbyterian Church.

Milton Eugene "Gene" Wamstad was born on Aug. 16, 1915, in Austin, Minn., the son of Milton B. and Mine (Field) Wamstad. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa.

He received his elementary education in the rural Osage school system in Mitchell County and graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1932.

He was united in marriage to Ruth McDonald on Feb. 5, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Throughout his life he worked on the family century farm, rural Nora Springs, until his retirement in 1978. After his retirement he also worked at the Mason City and Northwood sales barns and for Como Photo in Mason City.

He enjoyed woodworking, rummage sales, flea markets, traveling and collecting old unique tools.

He was a member of Eden Presbyterian Church, Rudd, and the Sons of Norway in Forest City.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth (McDonald) Wamstad, of rural Nora Springs; a sister, Adeliade Larson, of Nora Springs; and three nieces and four nephews. He was an honorary uncle to Kim (Dellitt) Herman of Avoca and an honorary Grandpa "Popcorn" to Kyle and MeganRose Piper of Nora Springs, who also are among his survivors, as are other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

KENNETH NEUHAUS

ROCKFORD - Kenneth Neuhaus, 58, of 210 Second St. S.E., Rockford, died unexpectedly Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City, after being stricken at his place of employment in Nashua.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., Rockford, with the Rev. John Albrecht officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery , Rockford, with graveside military honors conducted by INI Staff Delta Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marines, of Waterloo.

Friends may call to greet the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main Ave., Rockford. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. The casket will remain closed according to Ken's wishes.

Kenneth LeRoy Neuhaus was born July 9, 1941, in rural Shell Rock, the son of Helmut "Pappy" and Dora Evaline (Jurgens) Neuhaus. He attended school at Shell Rock and graduated from Shell Rock High School in 1960.

Ken entered the U.S. Marine Corps immediately after high school. He served at Camp Pendleton and in Vietnam, as well as being stationed in San Diego and 29 Palms, Calif., and Yuma, Ariz., rising to the rank of lance corporal. Following his honorable discharge, he entered the Marine Corps Reserves for two years.

He returned to Iowa and on Nov. 17, 1965, at the Methodist Church in Owasa, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Tidman.

The couple made their home in Hampton, where Kenneth began to work at Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. In 1969, they moved to Rockford where Ken began to work for the former Rock Island Rail Line. After the railroad closed down, he became a route driver for Farner Hewitt (Farner Bocken) in Charles City.

In 1974, he went to work for Soukup Manufacturing in Sheffield, where he remained for 11 and aanad and a half years. Ken then became a custodian for the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School District, working for the school through the fire until 1991. He then did construction work for a couple of years. For the past seven years, he had been an electrician at the Featherlite Manufacturing Company in Nashua, where he was employed at the time of his death.

Kenneth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, where he had served on the church council. He belonged to the Lutheran Brotherhood and served as a director for the Luther League of Zion Lutheran while his daughters were in the league. He was a former member of the Rockford City Council.

Ken was very proud of his Marine Corps service, and loved being a member of the Marine Corps League, North Iowa Detachment, where he served as the adjutant paymaster. He also belonged to the American Legion post of Rudd.

For 11 years, he served as the co-chair for the Post Prom Party of R-R-MR High School. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed woodworking and fishing at his "favorite spot." He loved gardening, especially when his tomatoes outgrew those of his sons-in-law. Ken was a special grandpa to his four grandchildren with whom he loved to spend time.

Those thankful for sharing Ken's life are his wife, Carolyn; his two daughters and their husbands, Carla and Jim Miller of Mason City and Valarie and Steve Sliger of Rockford; his parents, Helmut and Dora Neuhaus of Hampton; three brothers and their wives, John and Jean Neuhaus of Overland Park, Kan., Wayne and Gloria Neuhaus of Medford, Minn., and Dale and Lori Neuhaus of Racine, Wis.; four grandchildren, Jordan Spurbeck-Miller and Madison Miller, of Mason City, and Mikayla and Cassidy Sliger of Rockford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

BUFFALO CENTER - Charles Junior Schumann, 70, of Buffalo Center, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Fairmont Community Hospital in Fairmont, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. N.W. Buffalo Center.

LAKE MILLS - Avis Charlson, 82, of Lake Mills, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery , Lake Mills.

Visitation was held on Friday at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services today at the church.

BELMOND - Junior D. Saunders, 86, of Belmond, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.

MASON CITY - Michael Fangman, 48, of Blaine, Minn., died Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) of injuries sustained in an automobile accident south of Fort Dodge.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.
