MASON CITY - Lucretia Thompson, 49, of 642 S. Pennsylvania Ave., died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

CHARLES JUNIOR SCHUMANN
BUFFALO CENTER - Charles Junior Schumann, 70, of Buffalo Center, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Fairmont Community Hospital, Fairmont, Minn.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Gary Bergman officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion/V.F.W. Posts Color Guard of Buffalo Center. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Black Hills National Cemetery , Sturgis, S.D.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. N. W. Buffalo Center.
Charles Junior Schumann, son of Charles F. and Mary (Passich) Schumann, was born May 8, 1929, at Manning, Iowa. He graduated from Manning High School in 1947. Chuck then served his country in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1948 through 1952.
On Jan. 23, 1952, he was united in marriage to Betty Peregrine at Sun Valley, Calif. Chuck then enrolled in college and graduated from Wartburg College, Waverly, with the class of 1956.
Chuck had many interesting jobs. He was a teacher in Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools from 1961 through 1970. He taught junior high science and was the high school football and track coach He also owned and managed Buffalo Lanes in Buffalo Center for several years and was in partnership with the Casey's General Store. He served on the Buffalo Center Council and was a member of the Betterment Club. Chuck was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was also a charter member of B.C. Development Corporation and Bison, Ltd.
Chuck was a member of the First Christian Church in Sturgis, S.D., and attended the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Betty, of Buffalo Center; his son, Dale Schumann, and his wife, Cheryl, of Sherburn, Minn.; his daughter, Robin Johnson, and her husband, Bruce, of Chicago; his four grandchildren, Dana Williamson, Adam Williamson, Heidi Williamson and Tucker Schumann; his sister, Evelyn Vollstedt, of Manning; and his brother, Eugene "Happ" Schuman, also of Manning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

HELEN E. QUANDAHL
MASON CITY - Helen E. Quandahl, 90, of Mason City, died Friday (Oct. 9, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John Bates of the Eden Presbyterian Church of Rudd officiating. Interment will be in the Eden Presbyterian Church Cemetery , with the Rev. Arthur Vorhees officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and until time of services on Monday.
Memorials may be given to the Helen E. Quandahl Memorial Fund.
Helen was born Feb. 21, 1909, in rural Mitchell County, the daughter of Hugo and Katharine (Ahrens) Gratias. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1928. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Helen moved to Mason City in 1929, where she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1929-1942.
She married Herman I. Quandahl on May 23, 1933, in rural Nora Springs.
Helen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, church circle, United Council of Church Women, Eastern Star, Milwaukee Women's Club, Senior Citizens Center, AARP and volunteered her time helping with various nursing home programs.
Helen is survived by two brothers, Arthur L. Gratias, and his wife, Alice, of Mason City and Paul Gratias and his wife, LaVera, of Osage; one sister, Ethel Taylor, and her husband, Harold, of Mason City; 14 nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Walter and Ralph; and two sisters, Dorothy and Lorraine.

MICHAEL FANGMAN
MASON CITY - Michael Fangman, 48, of Blaine, Minn., died Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) south of Fort Dodge from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Bill Poland and the Rev. Leonard Root officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , with full military rites by the Mason City Memorial Association.
There will be no visitation, the body will be cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association in his memory.
Michael was born Oct. 6, 1951, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Mary Ann (Hatten) Fangman. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1969. That same year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until he retired in 1991.
Michael is survived by his wife, Debbra Fangman, of Plymouth, Minn.; mother, Mary Ann Fangman, of Bancroft; four brothers, Mark Fangman, of Redmond, Ore., Marvin Fangman, of Des Moines, Merle Fangman, of Phoenix, Ala., and Matthew Fangman, of Des Moines; two sisters, Mary Sue McEntee, of Des Moines and Margaret Schiltz, of Pensacola, Fla.; mother and father-in-law, Darlene and Bernard Buckland, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.

AMY FANGMAN
MASON CITY - Amy Fangman, 25, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., died Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) south of Fort Dodge from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Amy was born Jan. 8, 1974, in Rota, Spain, the daughter of Michael and Debbra (Buckland) Fangman. She graduated from high school in 1991 in Rota, Spain. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served five years.
Amy had the opportunity to travel extensively, returned home to attend NIACC and was currently working and attending school in Minneapolis.
She loved her cats and working on the computer.
Amy is survived by her mother, Debbra Fangman, of Plymouth, Minn.; grandmother, Mary Ann Fangman, of Bancroft; grandparents, Bernard and Darlene Buckland, of Mason City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Amy was preceded in death by her grandfather, Melvin Fangman.

JUNIOR D. SAUNDERS
BELMOND - Junior D. Saunders, 86, of Belmond passed away on Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Mercy Health Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services for Junior D. Saunders will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Celestine DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.
Junior, the son of Tom and Elizabeth DeWald Saunders was born Sept. 7, 1913, in rural Hopkinton, Iowa. He grew up in the Hopkinton area graduating from Hopkinton High School in 1932. He attended Lennox Junior College and served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II.
Following his tour of duty, Junior worked for Diamond Brother's Grocery chain where he was a trouble shooter/store manager in various communities in Iowa. He moved to Belmond in 1949 and worked as manager of Diamond Brother's Grocery.
On April 2, 1950, Junior was united in marriage with Gladys Petersen at Austin, Minn. The couple made their home in Belmond. They owned and operated Buy-Lo Food Market in Belmond from 1950-1976. He continued his love of the business with employment at P&B Grocery until 1997.
Gladys passed away in 1984 after 34 years of marriage. On Sept. 19, 1987, Junior was united in marriage with Laura Stoffer of Belmond.
Junior was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate as well as the local teams.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
Junior is survived by his wife, Laura; one daughter, Cyndy Groff, of Osage; one son, Douglas Saunders, and his wife, Jan, of Charles City; one stepdaughter, Jill Stoffer, of Belmond; two stepsons, Leland Stoffer, of Des Moines, and Lonny Stoffer and his wife, Laura, of Monet, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Julie, Whitney, Kelly, Randy, Pamela and Tracy; four stepgrandchildren, Chad, Clint, Logan and Louis; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Saunders, of Hopkinton and Russell Saunders and his wife, Helen, of Hopkinton; also a daughter, Saundra Spell and her husband, Ray, of Inverness, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; an infant brother; and a son-in-law, Richard.

Jessica was born Oct. 16, 1977, in Mason City, the daughter of Michael and Debbra (Buckland) Fangman. She graduated from Osseo High School in 1996, then attended the Nevada Institute of Cosmetology in Minneapolis.
Jessica was currently employed at Audio King in the Twin Cities.
She loved life, being with people and her dog, Pepper.
Jessica is survived by her mother, Debbra Fangman, of Plymouth, Minn.; grandmother, Mary Ann Fangman, of Bancroft; grandparents, Bernard and Darlene Buckland, of Mason City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jessica was preceded in death by her grandfather, Melvin Fangman.
