MASON CITY - Jean Ann Naberhaus, 43, of Mason City, formerly of Halbur, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Halbur, with Father Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery , Halbur.

Visitation will begin after 2:30 p.m. today at the Twit Funeral Home, 503 East First St., Carroll, with a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

RAVAE H. SONQUIST

GARNER - Ravae H. Sonquist, 58, of Garner, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Garner, with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Delavan West Cemetery , Delavan, Minn.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

MASON CITY - Raymond H. Berkland, 87, of 823 E. State St., died Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

CLEAR LAKE - Joan E. Vaudt, 62, of 109 N. 15th St., died Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

DORIS DIETERICH PAULSEN

MASON CITY - Doris Dieterich Paulsen, 82, of 17396 Kingbird Ave., died Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

GARNER - Bessie Falada, 93, of Garner, died Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

JUNIOR D. SAUNDERS

BELMOND - Junior D. Saunders, 86, of Belmond, passed away on Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at Mercy Health Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.

Funeral services for Junior D. Saunders will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Celestyne DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, in Belmond.

Junior, the son of Tom and Elizabeth DeWald Saunders was born Sept. 7, 1913 in rural Hopkinton, Iowa. He grew up in the Hopkinton area, graduating from Hopkinton High School in 1932. He attended Lennox Junior College and served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II.

Following his tour of duty, Junior worked for Diamond Brother's Grocery chain where he was a trouble shooter/store manager in various communities in Iowa. He moved to Belmond in 1949 and worked as manager of Diamond Brother's Grocery.

On April 2, 1950, Junior was united in marriage with Gladys Petersen at Austin, Minn. The couple made their home in Belmond. They owned and operated Buy-Lo Food Market in Belmond from 1950-1976. He continued his love of the business with employment at P&G Grocery until 1997.

Gladys passed away in 1984, after 34 years of marriage. On Sept. 19, 1986, Junior was united in marriage with Laura Stoffer, of Belmond.

Junior was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate as well as the local teams.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Belmond, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge.

Junior is survived by his wife, Laura; one daughter, Cyndy Groff, of Osage; one son, Douglas Saunders and his wife, Jan, of Charles City; one stepdaughter, Jill Stoffer, of Belmond; two stepsons, Leland Stoffer, of Des Moines and Lonny Stoffer and his wife, Laura, of Monet, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Julie, Whitney, Kelly, Randy, Pamela and Tracy; four stepgrandchildren, Chad, Clint, Logan and Louis; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Clifford Saunders, of Hopkinton and Russell Saunders and his wife, Helen, of Hopkinton; also a daughter, Saundra Spell and her husband, Ray, of Inverness, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; an infant brother; and a son-in-law, Richard Groff.

CHARLES JUNIOR SCHUMANN

BUFFALO CENTER - Charles Junior Schumann, 70, of Buffalo Center, died Friday (Oct. 8, 1999) at the Fairmont Community Hospital, Fairmont, Minn.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church, in Buffalo Center, with Pastor Gary Bergman officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion/V.F.W. Posts Color Guard of Buffalo Center. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Black Hills National Cemetery , Sturgis, S.D.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. N. W. Buffalo Center.

Charles Junior Schumann, son of Charles F. and Mary (Passick) Schumann, was born May 8, 1929 at Manning, Iowa. He graduated from Manning High School in 1947. Chuck then served his country in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1948 through 1952.

On Jan. 23, 1952, he was united in marriage to Betty Peregrine in Sun Valley, Calif. Chuck graduated from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa with the class of 1956.

He was a teacher at Buffalo Center Community Schools from 1956 to 1961 and at Waverly-Shell Rock Community Schools from 1961 through 1970. He taught junior high science and was the high school football and track coach He also owned and managed Buffalo Lanes in Buffalo Center for several years and was a franchisee with Casey's General Store. He served on the Buffalo Center Council and was a member of the Betterment Club. Chuck was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was also a charter member of B.C. Development Corporation and Bison, Ltd.

Chuck was a member of the First Christian Church, in Sturgis, S.D. and attended the First Baptist Church, in Buffalo Center.

Chuck passed away on Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at the Fairmont Community Hospital, Fairmont, Minn. at the age of 70 years.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Betty, of Buffalo Center; his son, Dale Schumann and his wife, Cheryl, of Sherburn, Minn.; his daughter, Robin Johnson and her husband, Bruce, of Chicago; his four grandchildren, Dana, Heidi and Adam Williamson and Tucker Schumann; his sister, Evelyn Vollstedt, of Manning; his brother, Eugene "Hap" Schuman, of Manning; a sister-in-law, LaVonne Schumann, of Ames. Chuck is also survived by Betty's family which includes brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Lila (Peregrine) Robillard, of Sturgis. S.D. Bob and Donna Peregrine, of Rapid City, S.D.; Howard and Barbara Peregrine, of Lake Tahoe, Nev. and William and Delores Peregrine, of Alturus, Calif. and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

BESSIE A. FALADA

GARNER - Bessie A. Falada, 93, of Garner, died Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, in Duncan, with the Rev. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery , in Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with a Rosary Society rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, is in charge of arrangements.

Bessie A. Falada, the daughter of Joseph F. and Anna (Landa) Formanek was born Dec. 17, 1905 on a farm northwest of Duncan. She attended the rural schools of Hancock County in Garfield Township and then worked on the family farm.

On Nov. 28, 1933, she was married to Peter Falada at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, in Duncan. They owned and operated the Duncan General Store in Duncan for 35 years. They moved to Forest City in 1968. After her husband's death in 1992, she moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. On Feb. 27, 1996 she moved to Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake due to ill health.

Bessie enjoyed singing and acting in Czech plays, card playing, baking and entertaining family and friends.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a former member of St. James Catholic Church, in Forest City, and was an honorary member of both St. Wenceslaus Catholic Rosary Society and St. James Catholic Guild.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret Formanek, of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Falada on April 7, 1992; her parents; sisters, Mary Rokos, Ida Zeman, Estella Falada, Christina Formanek, Anna Schmitt, Jessie Formanek, Josephine Formanek and an infant sister; two brothers, Frank Formanek and Joe E. Formanek.
