John Lietsch, 64, of Burlington died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Park View Care Center.
Born September 13, 1941 in Burlington, he was the son of Clarence and Helen DeWitt Lietsch.

Mr. Lietsch was in the first graduating class of Burlington Notre Dame High School in June of 1958. He worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and at Lehigh-Leopolds.

Mr. Lietsch was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. He loved to play golf and to bowl.

Survivors include three sisters, DeEtta (Ed) Senn and Marilyn (Clarence) Anderson both of Burlington and Joanne (Lynn) Rodgers of Fairfield, and 27 nieces and nephews.

His parents and two sisters, Doris Wiele and Betty Karle preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.

Justin Kenneth Lindquist

May 16, 1986 - August 13, 2006

According to his families' wishes, the body of Mr. Lindquist will be cremated following
the funeral service.

Justin Kenneth Lindquist, 20, of Burlington died Sunday, August 13, 2006 at
Great River Medical Center as the result of an automobile accident.

Born May 16, 1986 in Burlington, he was the son of James E. and Julie A. Cross Lindquist.

Justin was a 2005 graduate of Burlington High School and was going to attend Southeastern Community College this fall. He attended First United Church of Christ and enjoyed his time on the river, fishing, boating and model airplanes.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Lindquist of Burlington; one older brother, Joseph R. Lindquist, and one younger sister, Jamie S. Lindquist both at home; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Sue Cross of Lincoln, California; paternal grandmother, Mildred Lindquist of Burlington; maternal great grandmother, Ruby Cross of Burlington; one aunt and one uncle.

His paternal grandfather, Kenneth Charles Lindquist; maternal great grandfather, Norbert Cross; and paternal great grandparents preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Humane Society.

Glenn Vincent Livengood
October 8, 1914 - April 28, 2007

Memorials have been established for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and for the
Klein Center Volunteer Services Fund benefiting residents.

Glenn Vincent Livengood, 92, of Burlington died at the Klein Center at 10pm Saturday, April 28, 2007. He was born October 8, 1914 near Midale, Saskatchewan, Canada where five Livengood families had homesteaded. He was the son of Harry Raymond and Edith Beitel Livengood. The families retained their U.S. citizenship and returned to the Lovilia, Iowa area, farming and working in nearby coal mines. Glenn and a brother rode their pony five miles to the grade school in Lovilia until his family moved to Newton to find work at the Maytag Company. He is an alumnus of the Newton High School class of 1933. He graduated in bookkeeping from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, and worked in bookkeeping for a short time at Maytag.

Glenn moved to Burlington in 1935 and entered public accounting with Harry Howard & Associates which later was acquired by the McGladrey accounting firm.

On June 3, 1940 he married Mary Rita Kelly of Burlington. They had met on the riverboat “President” and danced the whole cruise because Mary’s date didn’t do the “new” steps.

Glenn joined the Iowa Soap Company in 1939, continuing with its successors as chief accountant and controller, retiring from U.S. Borax in September, 1974. Glenn and Mary retired to Phoenix, Arizona where he pursued golf, fishing, and his music interests and supported Mary’s ceramics, oil and water color painting.

Mr. Livengood was an accomplished musician and played clarinet and saxophone in his high school band, the municipal bands of Newton and Burlington, and various “circuit bands” during the big band era. In Phoenix he played first chair Saxophone in “The 39ers Big Band”.

Returning to Burlington in 1994, he played his clarinet for residents at the former St. Francis nursing home, Rosebush Assisted Living and at the Klein Center until shortly before his death.

He had been an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Jaycees, Elks Lodge and Eagles Club. His hobbies included golf, hunting, and fishing. He is a former member of the Carthage Lake Club.

Glenn was devoted to his Mary who required continuing assistance in her daily activities for many years before she died December 13, 2001. Mr. Livengood was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth of Newton and Malcolm of Atlantic. Survivors include his two sons, James M. (Mary) of Burlington and Thomas G. (Linda) of Roswell, Georgia; a daughter, Kathleen Ann Livengood of Phoenix, Arizona; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Richard Gerard Lloyd
February 14, 1927 - December 19, 2005

Richard Gerard Lloyd, age 78, of Burlington, died at 9:23 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 14, 1927, in St. Paul, MN, he was the son of Edward Lloyd and Rena M. Anderson Lloyd. On June 14, 1953, he married Marilyn J. Nanninga in Hawarden.

Mr. Lloyd was a 1945 graduate of Newton, Iowa, High School and a 1949 graduate of Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, Iowa. He was a Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He taught high school in the communities of Farrer and Moulton, Iowa, as a business instructor. He worked for T.S. Martin Company in Sioux City, Iowa, one year before joining Swift and Company as their Statistical Quality Control Manager from 1953 – 1967, and then he transferred to Buffalo, NY, retiring in October 1969. He then joined Bonewitz Chemicals as Sales and Service Representative, locating first in N. Mankato, Minnesota, and then moving to Burlington in 1971. In his work he traveled throughout the United States and Canada, retiring in October, 1980. He spent the next 7 years serving in the same related field with Oxford Sanfax and Diversy Wyandotte Chemical Services, Inc. until May 1987.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Burlington and of the United Methodist Men. He served as head usher for several years. He attended the International Congress of United Methodist Men held at Purdue University from 1989 – 2001 at their quadrennial meetings.

He was a volunteer at Great River Medical Center for 16 years and also active in Crop Walk and city volunteer projects. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing. A highlight of any day involved spending time with his grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by his friends and co-workers through the years for his kind nature and his gentle humor.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children Charles (Chris) Lloyd of Nevada, Margaret (John) Wozniak and David (Geri) Lloyd of Burlington, and Rosemary (Tom) Cameron of Riceville; 13 grandchildren (Audra and James Lloyd; Melinda Pitzer, Eric, Laura, and Martin Wozniak; Andrew, Carmen, and Hannah Lloyd; and Millicent, Elise, Bridget, and Maris Cameron), 5 brothers and 2 sisters ( Don Lloyd of Phoenix, AZ; Mary Ann Iske, Delores Butler, and Thomas Lloyd of Newton, IA; Bob Lloyd of Pensacola, FL; Jim Lloyd of Ft. Collins, CO; and Larry Lloyd of Cantril, MO), and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward.

Memorials have been established for the Great River Medical Center Volunteer Services and First United Methodist Church.

Forrest R. Logan, 83, of Burlington, Iowa died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born July 14, 1923 in Franklin Township, Des Moines County, Iowa, he was the son of Richard W. and Nina O. Grannaman Logan and was third of 11 children. He married Shirley Hollingsworth in 1941. He later married Delores Samberg in 1981. She died April 26, 1993.

Mr. Logan attended Sperry Consolidated Schools. He was an Army Veteran serving actively during World War II from 1944 until 1946. As a paratrooper, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland Campaign. He then was a long time member of the Army Reserves, retiring as a Master Sergeant.

Mr. Logan retired as a revenue agent supervisor for the Iowa Department of Revenue on August 1, 1985 after 23 years of service.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 10102 where he served as a past commander and was named an All-American Post Commander for the years 1980-1981 and chosen Captain – the first Iowan to achieve this honor. In addition he was a member of Burlington Kiwanis Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 150, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 579, Friday Senior Bowling League and Flint Hills Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, monthly card club, going to the boat, music and cooking. He loved visiting with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.

Survivors include one son, Jerry (Amy) Logan of Urbandale, Iowa; three daughters, Linda Tickel of Burlington, Kathy (Stan) Crowl of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Julie (Steve) Hearn of Carson City, Nevada; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Caryl) Logan of Danville, Iowa; five sisters, Dolores Mitchell of Lakewood, Colorado, Janet (James) Willson and Marilyn Johnston both of Burlington, Sally Johnson of Park Ridge, Illinois and Patti (Frank) Karwatowicz of Naperville, Illinois.

His wife; parents; two brothers, Wayne Logan and Kenneth Logan; two sisters, Helen Yoder and Marcele Logan, preceded him in death.

Bonnie Darlene Longcor
January 28, 1929 - May 13, 2007

Mrs. Bonnie Darlene Longcor, 78, of Burlington, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2007, in Great River Medical Center.

She was born January 28, 1929, one of 12 children, to Lewis and Betty Smith Savage. She married Oliver “Bert” Longcor on May 1, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He died June 25, 1978.

Bonnie was a waitress at Van’s Diner before becoming an Office and Medical Assistant for Dr. Yard and Dr. Lee.

She was of the Protestant faith. She loved playing Yahtzee, bingo and going to the casino.

The family would like to give special thanks to Bobbie Tapscott and Judy Lavelle for everything they have done for the family.

Survivors include two daughters Linda (Kenneth) Harryman of Shawnee, Kansas; and Shelley (Larry) Statler of Blyville, Arkansas; a son Randy (Debbie) Longcor of Liberty, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren with one due in August; and brothers Dick (Gerri) Savage, Bill Savage, Bob Savage and Jim Savage.

Her husband, parents and many brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
