BUFFALO CENTER - Frances C. Serhagl, 87, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Services are tentatively planned for10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Buffalo Center.

ELIZABETH "BETTY" BARBER
CHARLES CITY - Elizabeth "Betty" Barber, 85, formerly of 103 Hillside Ave., Charles City, died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag, the senior pastor at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery , Charles City.
Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday with the family present from 5 until 7 p.m. and will resume one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

WILMER (BILL) DIETERICH
ST. ANSGAR - Wilmer (Bill) Dieterich, 91, died on Thursday evening (Oct. 14, 1999) at Mitchell County Regional Health Care Center, Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward
Schmidt
officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Friends may call on today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and one hour before the service at the church Monday.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar First Responders or the charity of their choice.
Bill was born June 8, 1908, in Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Carl and Bertha (Kronemann) Dieterich. He was baptized as an infant and after moving to rural St. Ansgar as a boy was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in the class of 1927.
Bill was united in marriage to Agnes Struck on Dec. 11, 1935, in Myrtle, Minn. He farmed in the St. Ansgar area for a number of years and later served as secretary/manager and agent for the St. Ansgar Mutual Insurance Association. He retired in 1981.
In the 1950's he served as a councilman and mayor of St. Ansgar. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his survivors including his children and their spouses, Gerald and Eunice Dieterich of West Salem, Wis., Judith and David Everds of Lakeville, Minn., Jean and George Currier of Red Wing, Minn., Keith and Susan Dieterich of St. Ansgar. Other survivors include one brother, Lawrence of St. Ansgar; one sister, Lola Kittleson of St. Ansgar; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his parents; and two brothers, Ervin and Arnold.

HAMPTON - Patrick Christensen, 56, died Saturday (Oct. 16, 1999) at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.
EDWIN F. LIEB
ALGONA - Edwin F. Lieb, 90, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery , Algona.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Garry Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, and will continue at 9:30 until the time of the service at the church Tuesday.
DOYLE WILDER
ST. ANSGAR - Doyle Wilder, 69, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) at Riverside Chautauqua, Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Faith Lutheran Church in London, Minn., with the Rev. Einer Unseth officiating. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery , rural Lyle, Minn.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and will resume one hour before services at the church Monday.
Doyle was born on Oct. 10, 1930, in Osage, the son of Andrew J. and Elmira (Smith) Wilder. Doyle attended school in Otranto.
He worked in the area as a carpenter. He entered into the U.S. Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict.
He married Marilyn Hanson on June 20, 1954, at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They lived in the Otranto and St. Ansgar area where he owned Wilder Construction. Due to health concerns, he retired.
Doyle was a member of the Lyle American Legion.
He is survived by his mother, Elmira Wilder, St. Ansgar; his wife, Marilyn, St. Ansgar; two daughters, Cheryl Cherney and her husband, Mike, Adams, Minn., and Diane Jahr and her husband, John, St. Ansgar; two sons, Steven Wilder and his wife, Mary, St. Ansgar, and Gary Wilder, St. Ansgar; two sisters, Jeanie Neuman and her husband, Butch, St. Ansgar, and Joan Braun and her husband, Steve, St. Ansgar; two brothers, Roger Wilder and his wife, Barb, St. Ansgar, and Donald Wilder and his wife, Mary, St. Ansgar; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Doyle was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Jackson Wilder; two brothers, Laurel Wilder and Marlin Wilder; and three grandchildren, Aaron Bradstreet, Matthew Bradstreet, Melissa Jahr.

CLEAR LAKE - Orlan Verle Casebolt, 86, died Saturday (Oct. 16, 1999) at Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City.

CLARENCE J. (MIKE) SCHELL
NORA SPRINGS - Clarence J. (Mike) Schell, 89, died Saturday (Oct. 16, 1999).
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. A noon luncheon will be served at the Nora Springs Catholic Community Center followed by a graveside service at Osage Cemetery , Osage.
A memorial to the Catholic Community Center has been established in Mike's name.
Funeral arrangements have been completed by the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs.
Mike was born on Dec. 10, 1909, in Mason City, the son of Clarence and Hattie I. (Bell) Schell. Being raised on a farm, he developed a life-long love of farming.
He married Oleva Hofler on May 3, 1937. They settled in Nora Springs where they were part owners of the Hofler Seed Company for over 40 years.
During this time he was an active member of the community, the bowling league, Kiwanis Club, and Catholic Community Center. He also served on the board of the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company.
His belief in the Nora Springs community was shown by his 20 years of service as mayor. City projects of particular interest to him were the sewage treatment plant, the extension of curbs and guttering to more streets, and the building of Maple View Manor. He believed it was his responsibility to make Nora Springs a good place to live and work. Mike received recognition for his volunteerism by Gov. Terry Branstad. His friends and family knew Mike to be a caring family man with a great sense of humor. The people in the last place he called home, the Nora Springs Care Center, say this, too.
Mike is survived by four daughters, Mary Lee Schell, Naples, Fla., Barbara Ware and her husband, John, Perry, Mich., Loretta Grekoff and her husband, Dallas, Shakopee, Minn., and Rita Britton and her husband, Ken, Eagan, Minn.; a family friend, Pat Clancy, Naples, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Michael Ware, Steven Ware, Todd Grekoff and his wife, Jessica, Kim Hinrichsen and her husband, Scott, Troy Grekoff and his wife, Kelli, Missy Grekoff, Mindy Bissonett and her husband, Rob, Karla Grekoff, Abbey Thomas and her husband, Mike, Ben Britton, Libby Britton, Sarah Britton and David Britton; 10 great-grandchildren, Kyle Hinrichsen, Kayla Hinrichsen, Kole Hinrichsen, Turena Grekoff, Jordan Harris, Ellijah Maze, Ryan Bissonett, Raegan Rose Bissonett, Kourtney Grekoff and Michaela Thomas; two brothers-in-law, John Hofler and his wife, Louise, Nora Springs, and Ivan Graper, Tyler, Texas; one niece

EARL E. KAHL
NORA SPRINGS - Earl E. Kahl, 61, of 116 N. Seminary, died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at his home in Nora Springs.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 429 N. Delaware Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery , Mason City.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, and one hour before service time at the church Monday.
Memorials may be directed to the Earl E. Kahl Memorial Fund.
Earl was born Feb. 25, 1938, in Washington Township, Crawford County, the son of Herman F. and Hattie (Boger) Kahl. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove. Earl graduated from Denison High School in 1956.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years, then returned to the Denison area and worked as a carpenter and mechanic.
He was married to Dorothy Arnold on July 12, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They moved to Rock Falls in 1971 where he worked for Case Implement. In 1972 he went to work for N. W. Portland Cement Co. (Holnam) as a mechanic. They moved to Nora Springs in 1973. Earl retired in 1997 when he became disabled.
He enjoyed spending time at the Nora Inn for coffee with friends as well as working as a fix-it person for friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed working in the garden.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City, where he ushered for many years.
Earl is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Kahl, Nora Springs; two sons, Robert A. Kahl and his wife, Stephanie, New Ulm, Minn., and Daniel E. Kahl and fiance, Melanee Kelley, Boone, N. C.; a daughter, Jill D. Kahl, Seward, Neb.; sisters, Dorathy Hulsebus, Denison, Norma Petersen and her husband, Glenn, Denison, Donna Ahart and her husband, Robert, Denison, and Irene Schulz and her husband, Arlyn, New Ulm, Minn.; parents-in-law, Bob and Garnet Arnold, Denison; sisters-in-law, Doris Kahl, Dow City, and Carolyn Schroeder, Waterloo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Herman V. Kahl.
