CHARLES CITY - Howard B. Powers, 94, of 901 Court St., No. 10, died Friday (Oct. 22, 1999) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diane Mitchell, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Township Cemetery , south of Charles City.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the family greeting friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

JOAN KATHLEEN MACHIN
OSAGE - Joan Kathleen Machin, 79, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 21, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, with Gary Gilbert officiating. Inurnment will be in the Saratoga Cemetery
at a later date.
The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Champion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EDNA ELSIE KNOPF
CLEAR LAKE - Edna Elsie Knopf, 82, of Clear Lake, died Thursday (Oct. 21, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery
at Garner.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.
Edna Elsie Knopf was born on July 15, 1917, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Herman and Martha (Reinhart) Hoeft. She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner.
She was united in marriage to George Knopf on Nov. 2, 1935, in LuVerne, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1985.
After their marriage, they lived and farmed together on her husband's parents' farm in the Ventura area before moving to her mother's farm and then moving to Garner. They then moved to Clear Lake where she worked for Interstate Power until her retirement.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, fishing, gardening and playing cards, but her great love and enjoyment was her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Darlene Wood and her husband, Ellery, of Garner, Arlene Jass and her husband, Gary, of Clear Lake, Delores Garth and her husband, Chet, of Clear Lake, Butch Knopf and his wife, Judy, of Des Moines, and Doris Knopf, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Doug Wood, Greg Knopf, Valerie Dillavou, Dale Wood, Deb Lemke, Vickie Mennen, Tim Wood, Kari Knopf and Jill Knopf; 19 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arthur Hoeft, of Garner, as well as other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Randy Jass; one great-grandson, Derek Knopf; and one brother, Lester Hoeft.

RUTH B. NELSON
JANESVILLE, Minn.- Ruth B. Nelson, 82, formerly of Ventura, died Friday (Oct. 22, 1999) at the Janesville Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at the Peace Reform Church Cemetery
in Garner, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Grossman officiating.
Ruth B. Nelson, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Schultz) Brouwer, was born on Aug. 3, 1917, in Ventura. Ruth was a graduate of Ventura High School.
On Dec. 9, 1935, Ruth was united in marriage to Clarence Nelson in Iowa. Ruth was a wife and homemaker as well as a sales clerk for Dayton's Department store.
After retiring from Dayton's, she and her husband enjoyed traveling together. Ruth moved to Janesville in 1977 after the death of her husband, Clarence. She lived in Park Road Plaza for 10 years and most recently was a resident at the Janesville Nursing Home for the past three years.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Warren of Janesville, Minn.; one son-in-law, Don Santo of Janesville, Minn.; five grandchildren, Mike Santo, Mike Nelson, Jeffrey Warren, Troy Warren and Steve Folkerts and his wife, Annette; six great-grandchildren, Stephen Folkerts, Sarah Warren, Andrew Warren, Justin Ray, Justin Michael and Tommy; and four sisters, Lois Jasperson of Des Moines, Norma Crompton and her husband, Louis, of Downey, Calif., Phyllis Brouwer of Clear Lake, and Bernice Butts of Oakdale, Calif.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Coral Santo; one granddaughter, Kim Folkerts; one great-granddaughter, Stephanie; five brothers and two sisters.

BELMOND - Mildred L. Buseman, 83, died Saturday (Oct. 23, 1999) at her son's home in Meservey.

MASON CITY - Mary Ann Wells, 83, of 1037 19th St. SW, died Saturday (Oct. 23, 1999) at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City.

IRMA B. "LONG" HERRICK
WEST DES MOINES - Irma B. "Long" Herrick, 95, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (Oct. 21, 1999) at Kavanaugh Hospice House, West Des Moines.
Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Nils C. "Chris" Hellevik officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and also one hour prior to the services at the church Monday.
Memorials may be directed to the Irma L. Herrick Memorial Fund.
Irma was born Oct. 18, 1904, in Garfield County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Joseph A. and Amelia O. Long. She came to Mason City in 1929 from Lawrence, Kansas, where she graduated from high school.
She married Dan C. Herrick May 15, 1924, at Lawrence, Kansas. Irma would later receive her associate degree from North Iowa Area Community College.
Irma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on many boards and committees. She was a board member of Good Shepherd Health Center, helped teach first aid, played a part in the Safety Clinic in Park Hospital, approached the school board for drivers education in schools, and worked on the Cerro Gordo County Safety Council. Irma served as a residential consultant for Allied Realty for a number of years.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Anna Parks, of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Thomas James Parks and his wife, Peg, Kathryn A. Rose, and Timothy John Parks and his wife, Linda; and three grand-children, Evan, Jeremy and Leah.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Dan C. Herrick.

CHARLES CITY - Irving Fullard, 83, of 403 S. Main, died Friday (Oct. 22, 1999) at his home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag, senior pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens where there will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home where the family will greet them from 6 to 8 p.m., and visitation will resume at 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
