CHARLES CITY - Harriet E. (Mrs. Gordon) Mead, 89, Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home and formerly of 1797 Cedar View Drive., died Wednesday (Oct. 27, 1999) at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., with the Rev. Arthur C. Wegner Jr., pastor of Faith Bible Chapel, Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday.

JOHN A. WILKE
CHARLES CITY - John A. Wilke, 60, of 1563 Mt. Pleasant, Northfield, Ill., and formerly of Charles City, died unexpectedly Monday (Oct. 25, 1999) at his residence.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon today at the St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 1962 Old Willow Road, Northfield, Ill.
Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Calvary Cemetery , Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, officiating.
Visitation was held Thursday at the Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Boulevard, Skokie, Ill.
There will be no visitation at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, which is in charge of local arrangements.
John A. Wilke was born in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1939, the son of Lawrence G. "Larry" and Louise Gertrude (Weber) Wilke. He moved to Charles City with his family as a young man where he graduated from high school.
He moved to Chicago to attend college. After earning a nursing degree, he went to work for a neurosurgeon in private practice. He later joined the nursing staff of Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Ill.
Eventually, he entered management and became a vice president at Lutheran General. He retired in January from Lutheran General Hospital after a 31-year career and then took a job as the business manager and pastoral liaison at St. Phillip the Apostle Church of Northfield.
In 1997, he was elected to serve on the Northfield Village Board, serving as chairman of the Public Works, Safety and Administration Committee.
Those thankful for sharing John's life include a brother and his wife, Delbert and Margaret Wilke, of Tennyson, Wis.; two sisters and their husbands, Betty and Lee Bauman, of Medina, Ill., and Lorraine and Carlisle Beekman, of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

EARL REITZ
MIDLAND, Texas - Earl Franklin Reitz, 79, of Midland, Texas, passed away Thursday (Oct. 28, 1999) at a local care facility.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. today at the Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Younger Center at Manor Park.
Earl Franklin Reitz was born on April 7, 1920, in Red Oak, Iowa, to John and Hazel (Wright) Reitz. He served in the Army Air Force from 1939 to 1945 in both the Pacific and European Theaters. He was a staff sergeant aerial gunner on a B-17 in the 11th Air Force in the Aleutian Islands in 1942. After graduating from Bombardier Cadet School in Deming, N.M. in 1943, he was assigned as a second lieutenant on a B-24 Liberator stationed in Italy from 1943 to 1944.
He held the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon Battle Star and the European-African-Middle East Medal with three Battle Stars, the Air Medal with Four Clusters and Distinguished Unit Citation with one Cluster.
He married Violet Schlender in Forest City, Iowa, on June 8, 1947. He worked for the U.S. Post Office in Clear Lake, Iowa, before moving his family to Tampa, Fla., where he obtained a bachelor's degree at the University of Tampa.
He then taught high school in Florida for many years, specializing in history and astronomy. He and his wife moved to Midland, Texas, in 1992 to be near family.
Mr. Reitz was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbert Reitz, of Carroll, Iowa, and Arthur Reitz, of San Francisco.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Violet Reitz, of Midland, Texas; his son, Kenneth Reitz and his wife, Peggy, of Louisa, Va.; his daughter, Laurel Caputo and her husband, Joe, of Midland, Texas; his granddaughter, Jensen Reitz Montambault, of Washington, D.C.; his grandsons, James Caputo and his wife, Deidre, of Norman, Okla. and Thomas Caputo, of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Jean Lodwick, of Des Moines, Iowa and Edith McCue, of Villasca, Iowa; one brother, the Rev. Harold Reitz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

OSAGE - Virgil F. Johnston, 73, of Osage, died Thursday (Oct. 28, 1999) at St. Marys Hospital, in Rochester.

MASON CITY - Clinton L. Stevens, of the Manly Care Center, formerly of 14706 Spruce Ave., Mason City, went home to be with Jesus in the evening of Wednesday (Oct. 27, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. - with the Rev. Ron Stein, of the First Baptist Church, the Rev. J. Mark Radford, of the Assembly of God, and Capt. Homer Smith, of the Salvation Army - officiating.
Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to the Clinton L. Stevens Memorial Fund.
Clinton L. Stevens was born May 11, 1914, in Mason City, the son of Arthur Garfield and Clara Mae (Hill) Stevens. He attended Mason City No. 7 Country School and Mason City High School. After his schooling, Clinton worked for farmers in the area until taking over the family farm.
On Sept. 26, 1937, Clinton was united in marriage with Ruth M. Allen at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua. He continued to farm and worked for several years as an oiler at the Sugar Beet Plant.
He attended the Salvation Army Adult Day Care Center for eight years prior to moving to the Manly Care Center. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and I.O.O.F.
He is survived by one son, Allen Stevens, of Mason City; daughter, Carol F. Miller and husband, Dwight, of Mason City; grandson, Randy Stevens and wife, Theresa, of Mason City and their children, Samantha, Elizabeth and Randy Jr.; grandson, Terry Stevens and wife, Sandy, of Alexander, and their children, Katie and JoAnna Stevens and Chad Wilson; grandson, the Rev. K. Mark Radford and wife, Val, of Enid, Okla. and their children, A.J., Ashley and Maddison; granddaughter, Robin Smith and husband, Capt. Homer, of Peoria, Ill. and their children, Jenna and Ryne; grandson, Eric Miller and wife, Julie, of Mason City; grandson, Jamie Miller, of Mason City; and grandson, Jonnie Miller, of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and one sister.
