NORA SPRINGS - James Robinson, 81, of Altus, Okla., formerly of Nora Springs, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at the Altus hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

GLENN F. WOHLFORD

HAMPTON - Glenn F. Wohlford, 86, of Hampton, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2000) at the Franklin General Nursing Facility, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Geneva United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery , rural Geneva.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

LUCILLE A. ZERFASS

ALGONA - Lucille A. Zerfass, 94, of Algona, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2000) at the Algona Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Algona.

There will be no visitation. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, is in charge of arrangements.

GARWIN G. "DYKE" WARD

NORA SPRINGS - Garwin G. "Dyke" Ward, 86, of Lot 11, Ponderosa Court, Nora Springs, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2000) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated. Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

JAYNE HEISE

OSAGE - Jayne Heise, 54, of Osage, died Monday (Jan. 3, 2000) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Keystone Cemetery , Keystone.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, with an Alpha Delta Kappa educators' sorority memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Jayne Heise was born Aug. 29, 1945, in Vinton, the daughter of Wayne and Evelyn (Kirkman) Ohde. She graduated from Van Horne High School in 1963, and was a member of its state championship basketball team. In 1967, she graduated from Upper Iowa University of Fayette.

She married out of college and started her teaching career in Omaha, Neb. She raised her children while living in Seattle, Wash., and Iowa City, moving to Osage in 1977.

She returned to elementary teaching in 1987. She helped develop the Talented and Gifted Program at Osage Community Schools, and had taught kindergarten since 1994. She was active in the development of three women's adult softball leagues and the children's T-ball leagues of Osage. She also dedicated a lot of her time to attending her children's athletic events. She was an active member of the Osage Booster Club and was statistician for the Osage High School girls volleyball team. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority.

She will be remembered as the most nurturing and cohesive element of her family. She will be greatly missed, and remembered often. Comfort lies in her memory, and her spirit, which will be with us always.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jayne Heise Memorial Fund.

Survivors include a daughter, Heather Jayne Heise, Rochester, Minn.; three sons, Robert H. Heise III and his wife, Julie, and their children Madison, Jayne and Alexa Renee of Olathe, Kan., Richard W. Heise and his wife, Christine, and their children, Matthew Joseph and Samuel Robert, of Rochester, Minn., and Ryan J. Heise and his wife, Erica, of Minneapolis.; a maternal grandmother, Helen Kirkman-Thompson of Vinton; and a brother, Dale Ohde and his wife, Andrea, and their daughter Jade, of Vail, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Evelyn Ohde, and an infant sister, Diane Kaye Ohde.

DOROTHY CATHARINE MATERN

BRITT - Dorothy Catharine Matern, 85, of Britt, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 2000) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Britt, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery , Wesley.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Home, Britt, with a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Dorothy Catharine Matern was born March 18, 1914, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Thomas and Regina (Gallaghar) Shannahan. She attended school in Ottumwa and graduated from Ottumwa Heights at the age of 16. She then went on to college at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1934. She taught school in the Wesley and LeMars area until World War II. During the war, she was employed with the Civil Service in Niagara Falls and later in Ohio.

Following the war, she moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where she was united in marriage to Frank H. Matern on April 24, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Cheyenne and later moved to Aberdeen, S.D.

The family moved to the Britt area in 1954, where they were engaged in farming. She obtained her library science degree in 1968 and was the librarian at Britt High School until 1978. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Britt, and the Rosary Society, and served on various committees at the church. She was the first director of St. Patrick's Religion Program. She also enjoyed her work with the Hancock County Little Theater.

Survivors include her five children, Melinda West of Ventura, Michael of Britt, Marcia and her husband, Darrel Courrier, of Minneapolis, Mark and his wife, Joyce, of Britt, and Mary and her husband, Forrest Klippenstein, of Oral, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Joe Shannahan and his wife, Katie, of Williamsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Shannahan of Williamsburg and Dorothy Jean Shannanhan of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, two brothers and two sisters.

JUDY ANN HACKBART

MANLY - Judy Ann Hackbart, 53, of 220 West Spring St., Manly, died Saturday (January 1, 2000) at St. Mary s Hospital, Rochester, Minn., as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Dec. 19.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 East South St., Manly, with the Rev. Robert M. Cumings officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, and will continue 1 hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Judy Ann was born July 5, 1946, in Mason City, the daughter of Louis J. and Isabella E. (Seifert) Duda. She attended Mason City schools, graduating from Mason City High School in 1964. In 1971, she graduated from the nursing program at NIACC as a registered nurse.

On May 6, 1972, at Grace Baptist Church in Mason City, she was united in marriage to Frederick James Hackbart. The couple made their home briefly in Mason City before moving to Manly, where they had lived for the past 26 years. Judy Ann will be sadly missed by their many friends and neighbors of the Manly area.

Judy Ann worked as a nurses aide and surgical technician at St. Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She then became a nurse in the office of the Independent Medical Surgical Group. In 1984, she took the position of director of nursing at the Manly Care Center. In 1987, she began working as a Worth County public health nurse. The people whose lives she touched throughout her professional life will not forget her. Her service, kindness and love will be remembered forever.

Judy Ann was an avid golfer and bowler. She loved to play bingo, visit Branson, Mo., travel and go on fishing trips with her family and friends. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, the Highland Park Golf Club and the Monday Night Women's Classic at the Rose Bowl in Mason City. To assist the victims of Hurricane Andrew, she spent two months in Florida as a volunteer with a doctors group. Most of All, she loved spending time with family and friends. Every weekend and every holiday, every ball game and hockey game was a reason to celebrate the life and love of her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory and miss her dearly are her husband, Fred, of Manly; a sister and her husband, Jeanette and Marshall Nicholson of Mason City; their children, son, Patrick, and his son, Chris, daughter, Judeane, and her companion, Todd Brand, and her son Brandon; a brother and his wife, Robert and Judy Duda, of Mason City, and their children, son Michael and his companion, Angie Schotanus, and his son, Louis, son Daniel and his wife, Sue, and their children, Jamie, David, Lindsey and Kellie, a daughter, Shannon, and her companion, Harley Hill-Aeillo, and her daughter, Aleah; and a special friend and golfing companion, Cathy Weitzel.

JULIA (NYHUS) JENSEN

MASON CITY - Julia (Nyhus) Jensen, 89, San Diego, Calif., formerly of Mason City, died Wednesday (Dec. 22, 1999) in San Diego.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Curtis DeLong of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

MASON CITY - Evette E. Paulson, 77, of 947 15th St. N.E., died Sunday (Jan. 2, 2000) at the Rockwell Community Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Anderson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Columbarium, Mason City.

COLWELL - Alberta L. Gillespie, 70, of 3209 Second St., died Tuesday (Jan. 4, 2000) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.
