IDA HELEN ADAIR

MASON CITY - Ida Helen Adair, 94, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Heritage Care Center, 501 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Selmer Hernes of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church officiating. (Please use Pennsylvania Ave. entrance.) Interment will be in Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery , Kensett.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Ida Adair Memorial Fund.

Ida was born March 19, 1905, the daughter of Anton and Dikka (Lien) Strom in Worth County. She lived and worked on the family farm and attended rural school, graduating from the eighth grade in rural Joice. Ida was baptized and confirmed at the Bristol Church near Joice.

Ida was first married to Thomas Ellingson and to this union were born two girls, Truly and Dorothy.

She was then married on June 6, 1935, to Clifford Adair. Ida took care of Clifford for more than 10 years as he battled MS. Ida's crustiness and tough exterior was what gave her the strength to endure life's many hardships. But there was a softer and gentler side of Ida as well.

Ida's passion was doingembroidery and crocheting; she called it "fancy work." She lived in and around the surrounding communities all of her life, the last 53 years in Mason City.

Those thankful for having shared in Ida's life include two daughters, Truly I. Levorson of Lake Mills, and Dorothy A. Munyon of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Lottie Ofstedahl of Albert Lea, Minn.; five grandcildren, Marcia Turvold of Florissant, Mo., Ronald Levorson of Albert Lea, Minn., Medara S. Winter of Lake Mills, Grant B. Staton of Omaha, Neb., and Lori A. Abel of Plattsmouth, Neb.; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Dikka Strom; her husband, Clifford Adair; one sister, Dora Terbeck; and one grandson, Eugene C. Staton.

IDA BERTHA GERTRUDE BAST

VENTURA - Ida Bertha Gertrude Bast, 93, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 301 S. Main St., Ventura, with the Rev. Daird W. Korth officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to the service time at the chapel Tuesday.

The family of Ida Bertha Gertrude Bast has requested that memorial contributions be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura or to Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in her memory.

Ida Bertha Gertrude Bast was born on Jan. 16, 1906, in Joliet, Ill., the daughter of Louis and Amelia (Affeldt) Hiller. She was baptized on Oct. 10, 1917, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Joliet, Ill., and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation on June 26, 1921, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garner. She received her education in the Ventura school system.

She was united in marriage to Clarence Bast on Dec. 10, 1924, at St. Boniface Catholic Church parsonage in Garner. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1978. After their marriage they farmed together on the family farm south of Ventura.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura, Recreation Hour Club, and Union Township Dozen Club.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Dorothy Held and her husband, Dr. Norman Held, of Ventura, and Delores Ackarman and her husband, Donald, of Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Craig Ackarman and his wife, Linda, of Ventura, Gene Hinrichs and his wife, Kathy, of Ventura, Vickie Nelson and her husband, Steve, of Emmons, Minn., Jill Wilhelm of Clear Lake, Gayle Petersen and her husband, Robert, of Ringstad, and Tim Ackarman of Ventura; seven great-grandchildren, Trisca Mick and her husband, Kent, Tami Dillavou and her husband, Zack, April Wilhelm, D.J. Wilhelm, Brad Olson, Scott Hinrichs and Sarah Hinrichs; one great-great-granddaughter, Joslin Dillavou; and other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Clarence Bast, Ida was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, four nephews, one niece, and one son-in-law, Bill Hinrichs.

GERALD "JEFF" J. TICKAL

MASON CITY - Gerald "Jeff" J. Tickal, 71, of 626 Sixth Place S.E., died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with Monsignor Robert Hogan of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, officiating. (Please use Pennsylvania entrance.) Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today and resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Monday.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Gerald Tickal Memorial Fund.

Gerald was born Nov. 14, 1928, the son of Frank and Mary (Yeast) Tickal Sr. in Mason City. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served from December 1945 until Dec. 27, 1947. After serving his country, Gerald attended barber college in Waterloo.

Gerald was very proud of his 1931 Ford. He enjoyed entering local parades and antique car shows. Before Gerald got ready for the parade, he would always call his grandchildren to see if they would like to ride along.

Gerald loved to plant a garden and share the harvest with his neighbors. He could often be found tinkering with clocks or watches. Gerald looked forward to going to the Community Kitchen with his friends for coffee.

Those thankful for having shared in Gerald's life include his two daughters, Sheryl Tickal of St. Paul, Minn., and Pamela and her husband, James Hall, of Clear Lake; one sister, Kathrine and her husband, Dean Suby, of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Donald "Dick" Tickal, of Mason City; four grandchildren, Kevin, Timothy, Joey and Laura Allen; one great-grandson, Joseph L. Gleason; and one uncle, Louis Tickal, of Cedar Rapids.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rose Spinka, and Mary Hubacher; and one brother, Frank Tickal Jr.

SCOTT D. HALL

DAVENPORT - Scott D. Hall, 37, died unexpectedly Thursday (Jan. 6, 2000) at his home in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be at the National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal, with military graveside rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post No. 246.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 6 p.m. at Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Scott Duane Hall was born Dec. 23, 1962, in Britt, to Gilbert E. and Ethelene (Ward) Hall Jr.

He married Jamie E. O'Brien Jan. 7, 1988, inTacoma, Wash.

He served in the United States Army for 18 years, retiring in 1997 as Sgt. First Class and was employed as a technical writer for Almon TIAC, East Moline, Ill.

He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

His whole life was devoted to his family, friends and job.

Memorials may be made to the Hall Children's Education Fund in care of the Quad City Bank and Trust.

Scott is survived by his wife, Jamie, Davenport; daughters, Caitlin, Brianna and Hanna Hall, all at home; a son, Thomas Hall, also at home; his mother, Ethelene Jackson; and stepfather, Lewis Jackson, Kanawha; his father, Gilbert E. Hall Jr., Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Beth Burrs, and her husband, Scott, Corwith; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas and Marjean O'Brien, Davenport; five nieces and one nephew; brothers-in-law, Sean O'Brien, and his wife, Cathy, Davenport, Dan O'Brien, Chicago, Bern O'Brien, Iowa City, and Neal O'Brien, Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; an uncle, Jimmy Ward; and a sister-in-law, Maureen Ann O'Brien, June 16, 1992. May they rest in peace.

JANICE F. BILYEU

ALGONA - Janice F. Bilyeu, 61, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at her residence in Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, with the Rev. Philip J. Webb officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery , Algona.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

IRENE P. BARRETT

MASON CITY - Irene P. Barrett, 90, of 4 Third St. N.W., No 621, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2000) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery , Forest City.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a rosary beginning at 6 p.m. followed by a scriptural prayer service at 7.

Irene Patricia Barrett was born March 16, 1909, at Crystal Lake, the daughter of Michael Joseph and Mary Anne (Byrnes) Barrett. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School and then from Hamilton Business College, Mason City.

She was the office manager for Beaver Associates and then was an associate and part owner of Ronglien Associates, a fund consulting firm with corporate offices in Milwaukee. She had major clients throughout the United States.

Following her retirement, she lived in Forest City until 1996, when she moved to the Manor in Mason City.

Irene enjoyed traveling. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

She is survived by three sisters, Loretta Keleher, Albuquerque, N.M., and Ella Muehe and Mary Barrett, both of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bernadette Barrett Smith; and three brothers, Jack, James and Monsignor Norbert Barrett.
