Terry F. Miller, 53, of Mount Union, Iowa died Sunday, November 5, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.

Born November 26, 1952 in Burlington, he was the son of Floyd and Elsie McColloch Miller. On July 24, 1976 he married Carol J. Rocke in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Mr. Miller was a 1971 graduate of Mediapolis High School, 1973 graduate of SCC, and attended Iowa State University.

He was a farmer since his father’s death in 1974 and a Pioneer Sales Representative since July of 1977.

He was a member of Harmony Bible Church, Des Moines County Farm Bureau, and a Mediapolis High School Board Member from 1982 – 1999 and a past president.

He enjoyed family gatherings and vacations, restoring old cars and tractors, watching movies with family, watching Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball, and NASCAR. He loved to pitch in and help people and was known for his jokes, teasing and kidding around.

Survivors include his wife, Carol J. Miller of Mount Union; two daughters, Rochelle (Matt) Dunsbergen and Brianne (Derek) Schulte both of Pella; one son Jonathan Miller of Mount Union; four sisters, Rosalie (Mike) Davis of Danville, Iowa, Coralie Miller of Wausau, Wisconsin, Trudy Nelson of Mount Union, and Darla (Tom) Nelson of Mediapolis, Iowa; four brothers, Gary (Sandy) Miller of Middletown, Iowa, Larry (Shirley) Miller of New London, Iowa, Dan (Lisa) Miller of Geneva, Illinois, and Tim (Lori) Miller of Mount Union; two aunts, Vivian Johnson of rural Burlington and Doris Walz of West Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews

His parents; grandparents, Walter and Cora Miller and Albert and Dora McColloch; one nephew Caleb Nelson; and one niece, Christina Miller, preceded him in death.

Lois Mohnike
March 24, 1946 - May 21, 2006

Lois Joan Mohnike, 60, of West Burlington died at 5:28 a.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Great River Medical Center.

Born March 24, 1946 in Middletown, she was the daughter of Chester Wilbur and Aretha Judd Calhoon.

Ms. Mohnike was a supervisor for Burlington Basket Factory for 36 years, retiring in the summer of 2001. She attended Southeastern Community College for real estate license. She was an avid bingo player, and enjoyed bowling, going to garage sales, crocheting afghans for her children and grandchildren, cooking, sewing, and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Gale A. Dirth of Blakesburg, and Scott D. Mohnike of Burlington; two daughters, Pamela S. Mohnike of Burlington and Anita L. Smith of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Nick, Nichole and T.J. Dirth, Laith and Justin Schneider, Meckenzie Mohnike-Smith, and Jordan, Melina and Deleana Mohnike; three sisters, Elsie Rourke of Mooresville, Indiana, Evelyn Siens of Oquawka, Illinois, and Joyce Gilleard, of New London; and two brothers, Ralph Calhoon of West Burlington and Wilbur Calhoon of Boone, Colorado.

Her parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established.

Maria Anna Montsko
January 10, 1910 - April 24, 2007

Maria Anna Montsko, 97, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 11:45 pm Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center in Burlington.

Born January 20, 1910, in Bauschendorf in the High Tatra mountain region in Austria-Hungary (n/k/a Bušovce, Slovakia), she was the daughter of Stefan and Katherina Gurka. She married Stefan Montsko on October 23, 1943, in Kniesen (n/k/a Hniezdne, Slovakia). He died on May 1, 1987.

Mrs. Montsko and her family came to the United States in 1956. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, baking bread and coffee cake, and especially gardening.

Survivors include a daughter Anna of Chicago, Illinois, a son Konrad of Burlington, a nephew Edward Holmes of Burlington, many nieces and nephews in Germany, and a niece and a nephew in Slovakia.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.

Violet Gladys Morris
April 12, 1917 - August 2, 2006

Violet Gladys Morris, 89, of Burlington, died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at Park View Care Center.

Born April 12, 1917 in Kirksville, Missouri, she was the daughter of Thomas and Amie Francis Allred Craig. On January 20, 1947 she married Cecil S. Morris in Monmouth, Illinois. He died September 17, 1990.

Mrs. Morris was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She loved taking care of her family and to cook. She enjoyed bowling and gardening, maintaining many gardens in town.

Survivors include three sons, Cecil A. Morris of West Burlington and Rex L. Morris and Garry Sumpter both of Burlington; two daughters, Nancy D. Hull of Sciota, Illinois and Sandra Eisenbarger of King City, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Her parents, husband and one sister preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established for Park View Care Center.

Gladys Lillian Mundt
November 10, 1919 - April 29, 2006

Gladys Lillian Mundt, 86, of Burlington, died at 2:10 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at the Klein Unit, Great River Medical Center.

She was born November 10, 1919 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Mary Martsching Mundt.

Ms. Mundt was a housekeeper for Frank Schramm from 1939 to 1947. She moved to Burbank, California in 1947and worked in Electronics Production until retirement in 1984, when she returned to Burlington. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Burlington.

She is survived by one brother, William (Shirley) Mundt of Burlington, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ruth (Leonard) Cederburg of Leona Valley, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Robert, Walter and Charles Mundt; and one sister Helen Muehlbauer.

A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church and Great River Medical Center.

Gary R. Nelson

January 12, 1940 - December 4, 2005

Gary R. Nelson, 65, of Burlington, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, December 4, 2005, at Kewanee Hospital in Kewanee, Illinois.

Born January 12, 1940, in Burlington he was the son of Russell and Marie Schmitz Nelson. On December 10, 1960 he married Sandra House in Burlington.

Mr. Nelson worked as a machinist for the West Burlington Shops for 39 years, retiring in 2000.

He was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of the Moose and trapshooting and hunting clubs. He also enjoyed fishing, doing field trials with his dogs and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Nelson of Burlington; one son, Glenn (Denise) Nelson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jordan Stotts, Jeri Brown and Whispy Brown of Texas; two sisters, Marilyn (John) Flowers of Burlington and Theresa Soldofsky Nelson of San Jose, California; nieces and nephews.

His daughter Shelly and parents preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established to the donor’s choice.

Roy R. Nelson
June 23, 1923 - February 10, 2007

According to his wishes the body of Mr. Nelson has been cremated.
A memorial has been established for the Great River Medical Center Klein Center.

Mr. Roy R. Nelson, Sr., 83 of West Burlington died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center surrounded by his family.

Born June 23, 1923 in St. Joseph, Missouri, he was the son of John and Maude Adams Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was a 1942 Graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri and was a World War II Air Force Veteran. On November 9, 1946 in Troy, Kansas he married Roberta “ Bobbie “ G. Nelson.

He was a mechanical supervisor for Burlington Northern Railroad retiring in 1978.

He was a member of West Burlington Christian Church, enjoyed golf and playing the saxophone, organ and clarinet.

Mr. Nelson was a lifetime member of the
Masonic Lodge for over 55 years.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Nelson of West Burlington; daughter, Carol (John) Hunerdosse of West Burlington and son Roy (Karen) R. Nelson, Jr., of Canton, Missouri, four grandchildren Lisa (Chris) Farran of Canfield, Ohio, Jamie (Shawna) Hunerdosse of Burlington, and Heather Nelson and Chris Nelson of Canton, Missouri., five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; two brothers; and two sisters preceded him in death.
