Marjorie Ellen Niemeyer
January 29, 1908 ~ April 13, 2007

Marjorie Ellen Niemeyer, 99, of West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, died, Friday, April 13, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Lunning Chapel, Burlington, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2007, at Lunning Chapel, Burlington. Burial: Aspen Grove Cemetery , Burlington.

Survivors include her son, Larry Charles Niemeyer and wife Gwen of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Nancee Virginia Waterbury, husband Ryan and their son Mason, Noreen Marjorie Thurston, husband Chip and their son Charlie, Nicholas Harvey Niemeyer and Natalie Emma Niemeyer; and a brother, Herman (Dorothy) Milton of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Elma Schrader.

Marjorie was born January 29, 1908, the daughter of Charles and Alice (Jacobson) Milton, in Burlington, Iowa. A graduate from Burlington High School, she met her husband, Harvey, in Junior High School in Burlington. The two were married in 1931. Harvey worked for the railroad and the family resided in many places. They lived in Burlington, Ottumwa, Adel, Chicago, Kansas City, Missouri, Hannibal, Missouri, St Joseph, Missouri and Beardstown, Illinois. He died December 18, 1980 in Adel, Iowa. Marjorie was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Women of the Moose Chapter 579 in Burlington and the Hospital Auxiliary in Hannibal, Missouri. A very social person, she liked to travel, work in her yard, play cards, knit afghans, enjoyed watching Cub games and most of all following her son’s athletic teams, especially Jefferson Softball. Marjorie was a good wife, mother and grandmother.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Marjorie.

Robert F. Nolte, Jr.
July 17, 1934 ~ November 12, 2005

Robert Frederick Nolte, Jr., 71, of Burlington and formerly of St. Louis died at 7:47 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 17, 1934 in St. Louis he was the son of Robert Frederick, Sr. and Clara Hague Nolte. On September 2, 1961 he married Sandra Lee Rolf in Burlington.

Mr. Nolte was a sales representative for Pitney-Bowes Co. from 1961 to 1962, was an insurance claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance from 1961 to 1966, was production control supervisor for International Resistance Co. from 1966 to 1968, then worked as a computer systems analyst and was promoted to senior programmer/analyst with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 31 years. He retired April 4, 2000.

He was a 1952 graduate of Maplewood High School in Maplewood, Missouri and a 1957 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He participated in many activities. He was a 44-year member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ where he served as treasurer and later president of the church council and sang in the choir for 44 years, volunteered at Great River Medical Center, participated in the citywide Paint-A-Thon, the yearly CROP Walk, was a 10-year member of Bel Canto Chorale and served as its president in the 1970s.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Nolte of Burlington; one daughter, Leann Nolte of Fairfield; one sister, Jane Louise Dreiling of Carrollton, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for St. Luke’s United Church of Christ.

Katherine Northcutt
August 28, 1925 - October 21, 2005

-Visitation: Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 2:00 to 8:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
-Services: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at 1:00 PM in Center Grove Cemetery in Kirkwood, IL for Graveside Memorial Service and Inurnment.

Katherine I. Northcutt, 80, of West Burlington died at 6:08 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005, at Danville Care Center.

Born August 28th, 1925, in Kirkwood, IL, she was the daughter of William A. and Sophronia Taylor Stewart. ON December 24, 1952, she married Earl Northcutt in Monmouth, IL. He died in 1973.

Mrs. Northcutt worked in production at Sylvania for 18 years. She was later a cook at Hope Haven for seven years and then worked for Automatic Vending for Nine Years.

She was a member of Harmony Bible Church and enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Fording of Peoria, IL and Mary Wolkenhauer of West Burlington; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.

A memorial has been established for Harmony Bible Church and Hope Haven.

Ralph J. "Pat" Patterson
January 17, 1922 - April 2, 2006

Ralph J. “Pat” Patterson, 84, of Burlington died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his residence. Born January 17, 1922 in Washington, Iowa, he was the son of R. Patterson and Hazel Mae Patterson and was raised by his grandparents, James and Martha Patterson.
On October 19, 1940 he married Marie F. Langer in Kahoka, Missouri. She died July 3, 2002.

Mr. Patterson was a World War II Navy veteran. He then worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant until 1955 and then worked as a special cabinetmaker for Lehigh-Leopold Furniture Division for 30 years, retiring in 1984.

He loved listening to music, watching movies, reading, and spending time with his family. Having a great sense of humor, he loved telling jokes.

Survivors include two sons, William J. (Julia) Patterson of Burlington and Dr. Robert S. (Marta) Patterson of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Kathy Ann Gates of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen Calhoun.

His wife; parents; and son-in-law, Dr. Jon H. Gates, preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for the Animal Protection League Homeward Bound Adoption Center.

Geraldine Payne
August 29, 1914 ~ November 12, 2005

Geraldine “Gerry” Virginia Payne, 91, of King’s Daughter’s Home in Burlington died at 1:04 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born August 29, 1914 in Camden, Illinois she was the daughter of Dr. Frank C. and Lucille Yarbough Hayes. On June 7, 1934 she married Russell Payne in Kahoka, Missouri. He died May 28, 1992.

Mrs. Payne was a farmwife.

She was a graduate of Camden High School. She was a member of Camden United Methodist Church and liked to garden, raise chickens and work crossword puzzles.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Ellen Payne of Burlington; special friend, Phyllis Roxlau of Burlington; three grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Her husband; son, C. E. Payne; parents and one sister preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel.

The graveside funeral for Mrs. Payne will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery , in Augusta, Illinois with Lisa Mosely as celebrant.

A memorial has been established.

George Sanderson Pence
September 16, 1930 - March 13, 2006

George Sanderson Pence, 75, of Burlington died at 9:32 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Great River Medical Center. Born September 16, 1930 in Galesburg, Illinois he was the son of George A. and Merle Sanderson Pence. He lived there until age 15 when he moved with his family to a farm on Irish Ridge Rd.

On October 30, 1955 he married Donna J. Anderson at Latty Church.

Mr. Pence was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked as a pattern maker at Murray Foundry, and ran the Mobile Filling Station on the corner of Sunnyside and Cliff Rd. He was a good finish carpenter and a taxidermist in his spare time as a hobby.

He was a former member of the N.R.A. and loved going on hunting trips for black bear in Canada, caribou and goat in British Columbia and dear and elk in Idaho and Colorado. He was known as the “Bear Hunter” for shooting 31 bears with 31 bullets. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and also enjoyed catfish fishing on the Iowa River near his cabin. He also enjoyed getting together with his friends at Catfish Bend Casino and felt special about all who work there. He loved going on Trailways Bus Tours that his wife Donna escorted. Most of all he loved his wife and soul mate Donna.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Donna Pence of Burlington; lifetime companion, Jo Tubbs; one brother, Francis Pence of Burlington; and one sister, Dolores Pence of Iowa City.

His parents and one sister, Allena Brunken, preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for Burlington Fire Department Ambulance.

Michael C. Pendleton
November 25, 1946 - May 5, 2007

Michael C. Pendleton, 60, of Burlington, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born November 25, 1946 in Shenandoah, Iowa, he was the son of Charles and Phyllis Thrapp Pendleton. On June 23, 1972 he married Judy Hitchcock in Spencer, Iowa.

Mike was a 1965 graduate of Essex High School and attended Iowa State University. He was an accounts manager for Ecolab for the past 13 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ, AIMFES, Missouri Dairy Product Association, and Sheaffer Golf Course. His hobbies included golfing, woodworking, boating, hunting, watching all sports and spending time with his family.

Mike is survived by his wife Judy; three daughters, Amy (Jason) Ribando of Albany, California and Sara (Ryan) Hecox and Emily Pendleton both of Burlington; grandchildren, Ava Ribando, and Grace and Evan Hecox; his father, Charles Pendleton of Essex, Iowa; two sisters, Kathy Bryant of Bethany, Missouri and Sandy Carlson of Essex; an uncle and aunt, Clarence and Sylvia Pendleton of Coventry, Rhode Island; several nieces and nephews.

His mother preceded him in death.

A memorial has been established for First Christian Church ~ Disciples of Christ.
