Lucilla A. Holz
Lucilla Angela (Blatz) Holz, 90, of 901 W. Third St., died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at ManorCare Health Services.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery . Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
She was born on June 27, 1912, in Richfield, Minn., daughter of Edward and Susanna (Bungert) Blatz. The family moved to New Traer, Minn., and Lucilla spent her childhood there. After her mother died, she stayed at home and cared for the family. She also was a seamstress for many years.
She married Robert Joseph Holz on Nov. 6, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque; he died on Feb. 25, 1996.
She was a member of St. Columbkille's Parish and its Rosary Society, Mercy Auxiliary and the Dubuque Women's Club. She volunteered many, many hours at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Lucilla loved flowers, especially roses and cactus.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Susie Blatz, of Dubuque; Susie's children, Barbara (Joseph) Lyons, Susan (Larry) Metcalf, Larry (Sheila) Blatz, Michael (Karen) Blatz, Mark (Jean) Blatz, Mary (John) Giesemann and Joseph (Angie) Blatz, all of Dubuque, Joanne (James) Oberbroeckling, of Cascade, Iowa, Kathy (Tony) Reiss, of La Motte, Iowa, and Tom (Sarah) Blatz, of Bellevue, Iowa; sisters and brothers, Marie Doffing, of Newport, Minn., Gilbert (Sabina) Blatz, of St. Paul Park, Minn., Lorraine (Godfrey) Doffing, of South St. Paul, Minn., Dorothy Eckhart, of Inver GroveHeights, Minn., Leroy (Maryanne) Blatz, of Rock Falls, Ill., and Alvin (Ferrell) Blatz, of Stanchfield, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Jim (Janice) Widmyer and Margaret (Larry) Vize, both of Dubuque, and Tom Widmyer, of Madison, Wis.; numerous other nieces and nephews; and special friend, Vince Neuwohner, of Dubuque.
She also was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and Matt Becker, Virginia and Ray Morse and George and Annella Bretschneider; sister, Isabelle Schwie; brother, Alcuin Blatz; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marian and Joe Widmyer; brothers-in-law, Otto Doffing and Jim Eckhart; and two brothers in infancy.
A Lucilla Holz Memorial Fund has been established.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. - Marie "Mamie" Ludvik, 86, of Prairie du Chien, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery , both in Prairie du Chien.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien.

EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - Helen (McGee) Talley, 92, of Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, formerly of East Dubuque, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Mercy Hospital North, Clinton, Iowa.

CASCADE, Iowa - Glenna Mae Raleigh, 65, of Santa Maria, Calif., formerly of Cascade, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Margaret O'Shea
CASCADE, Iowa - Margaret O'Shea, 90, of 408 First Ave. West, Cascade, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Daniel Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.
She was born on March 6, 1912, in Cascade, daughter of John and Anna (Ludwig) Less. She was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School, Cascade.
On Sept. 15, 1938, she was united in marriage to Thomas O'Shea at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade. The couple farmed in the rural Cascade area until his death.
She then was employed with the food services department at Western Dubuque Schools, Epworth, and later at Cascade High School, until her retirement. She also cooked for the Cascade Senior Citizen's.
Margaret was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade, its Altar and Rosary Society and the Cascade Senior Citizen's.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia (Richard) Moore, of Cascade; six grandchildren, Tina (Jim) Becker, Sheila Moore (fiance, Dr. Marty Bagby), Marcia (Tom) Motsch, Molly (Kevin) McConnell, Rick (Brenda) Moore and Andrea (Rickey) Francois; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas O'Shea, in October 1963; two brothers, Henry and Andy Less; and three sisters, Florence Menster, Loretta Rogers and a sister in infancy; and a great-grandchild, Michael Moore.
A Margaret O'Shea Memorial Fund has been established.
Todd M. Walter
SCALES MOUND, Ill. - Todd M. Walter, 23, of Scales Mound, died at 6:09 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the Rockford (Ill.) Memorial Hospital, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Scales Mound.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Scales Mound United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kitchen, Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound, where members of the Scales Mound Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mr. Walter worked in concrete construction at Schueller Construction Co.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1979, in Dubuque, son of Michael A. and Elizabeth (VanNatta) Walter.
He was a 1998 graduate of Scales Mound High School. He was a member of the Scales Mound Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders. He was a former member of Future Farmers of America of Scales Mound.
He was an avid outdoorsman. In his spare time, he loved fishing with his best friend, Shane, and coon hunting with his dog, Festus. He always had a smile on his face and was devoted to helping other people. He was a strong, hard worker, loved to play cards, ride his four-wheeler, cut wood and "hanging with his buddies."
Surviving are his parents, Michael A. and Elizabeth (VanNatta) Walter, of Scales Mound; a brother, Chad M. Walter (fiancee, Joni Runde), of Cuba City, Wis.; a sister, Bridget Walter (friend, Rich Zurcher), of Scales Mound; grandparents, Cal and Helen (Harris) Walter, of Scales Mound, and Francis VanNatta, of Platteville, Wis.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and the extended family in his life, the Anderson family.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dorothy (Burbach) VanNatta.

Sister Mary Martinice O'Malley, BVM
Sister Mary Martinice O'Malley, BVM, 81, of Caritas Center, 1130 Carmel Drive, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Caritas Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Marian Hall Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery . Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Marian Hall, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
Sister was an elementary and junior high school teacher in Sioux City, Iowa; Chicago; Granada Hills, Los Angeles and Tujunga, Calif.; and Phoenix, Ariz.
She was born on Dec. 18, 1921, in Chicago, daughter of Martin and Marie O'Malley.
She made her first profession of religious vows on March 19, 1944, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1949.
Surviving are the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared life for 61 years; a sister, Grace O'Malley, of Chicago; a brother, Martin O'Malley, of Palm Springs, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM Retirement Fund.

Hector Ivan Lavoz Sr., 47, of 711 Olive Drive NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, and Chile, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Wisconsin.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery , Covington, Iowa.

EPWORTH, Iowa - Mildred M. Green, 80, of 214 First St. SE, Epworth, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, with the Rev. Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1922, in Center Township, rural Epworth, daughter of Edward J. and Alice B. (Garner) Schlosser. She received her education at the Johnson School, rural Epworth.
She married Roland Green on April 3, 1945, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth. She was a homemaker.
She enjoyed taking care of her family, raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Epworth.
Surviving are her husband, Roland "Ted" Green, of Epworth; five children, Sherene (Dave) Lochner, of Dubuque, Darrel Green (Margie Dresen), of Cassville, Wis., Dennis Green, of Amarillo, Texas, Ed (Patty) Green, of Bellevue, and LouAnn (Kenny) Valentine, of Bernard; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Jim Scherrer, of Farley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Bernice Scherrer, on Dec. 12, 1994.
A Mildred M. Green Memorial Fund has been established.
The family of Mildred would like to thank the doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center, emergency room staff and 3rd Floor West staff for all the wonderful care and kindness extended to Mildred through her illness.
