Anita E. Ament
DYERSVILLE, Iowa - Anita E. Ament, 92, of Dyersville, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Oak Crest Manor, Dyersville.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where there will be a rosary service at 4 p.m.
She was born on March 28, 1910, in North Fork Township, daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude (Cavanaugh) Whiting. She married Urban (Prex) Ament on Sept. 8, 1941, at St. Francis Xavier Church, Dyersville; he died on May 12, 1979.
She was employed as a payroll clerk at the former H.B. Glover Factory, Dyersville. She helped her husband selling for the W.T. Rawleigh Co. for 38 years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, ACCW and a former member of the Dyersville Country Club.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Geralyn) Ament, of Cedar Rapids, and Don "Pooch" (Margie) Ament, of Dyersville; a daughter, Mary (John) Ritter, of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren, Peter, Kaarn, John, Amy, Matt, Aaron, Sarah and Ellie; three great-grandchildren, Johnny, Troy and Alex; a brother, Gene Whiting, and a sister, Dorothy Beyer, both of Delhi.
She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Werner, Frances Martin and Marie March; two brothers, Robert and Frank Whiting; four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, William Werner, Stanley Martin, Leroy March, Eldon Beyer and Marie Whiting.
A Anita E. Ament Memorial Fund has been established.

WAUKON, Iowa - John T. Pladsen, 61, of Waukon, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon.
Private family graveside services and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery , rural Waukon.

EPWORTH, Iowa - Mildred M. Green, 80, of 214 First St. S.E., Epworth, died at 4:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, after a sudden illness.

HANOVER, Ill. - Russell W. Martin, 78, of rural Hanover, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.

GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Judith Ann (Hyde) Brauer, 56, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at home, after battling cancer for two years.

CASCADE, Iowa - Glenna Mae, Raleigh, 65, of Santa Maria, Calif., formerly of Cascade, died of cancer Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at home.
Private family services were held in Santa Maria.
The Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory, Santa Maria, was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin F. Roling, 74, of 2300 Central Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

CLERMONT, Iowa - Joseph Amundson, 82, of Clermont, died Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Postville, after a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, with burial in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Center. The Schutte Funeral & Cremation Service, Postville, is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. John A. Maxwell
Iowa City, Iowa - Dr. John A. Maxwell, 79, of 36 N. Lowell St., Iowa City, died of lung cancer on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at home.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City. Dr. Maxwell chose to be cremated. Private burial of the cremated remains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery , Iowa City. The family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where there will be a parish vigil service at 3:45 p.m.
He was born on March 7, 1923, in Epworth, son of Carl and Jennie (Nance) Maxwell.
He graduated from high school in Epworth and attended the University of Dubuque before enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Mary Coloton on Dec. 28, 1946, in Berea, Ohio. The couple moved to Iowa City, where John studied dentistry at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1949.
He served as a family practice dentist in Iowa City for 40 years, retiring in 1989. During that time, his sons, John and Greg, joined him in his practice.
He was a life member of the University District of the Iowa Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He also was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary, of Iowa City; sons, John (Kathy), and Greg (Mary Jean), both of Iowa City; daughter, Patty Teeple, of Iowa City; and grandchildren, Jennifer (Teeple) and Dan Barham, of Normal, Ill., Heather (Teeple) and Sean Jeanneret, of Niceville, Fla., Sarah Maxwell, of Northfield, Minn., Laurie Maxwell, of Cedar Falls, Amber Maxwell, of St. Paul, Minn., Matthew Maxwell, of Madison, Wis., and Christopher Maxwell, of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, H. Eldon Maxwell; and a sister, Mildred Maxwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Leon A. Pope
Leon A. Pope, 81, of 2053 St. John Drive, died at 5:09 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum at Mount Calvary Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.
Mr. Pope was formerly employed in machine repair at John Deere Dubuque Works for 27 years, until his retirement in 1987.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1921, in Dubuque, son of Arthur and Gertrude (Link) Pope. He married Catherine E. Reinker on Jan. 31, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.
He served with the Navy during World War II in Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
He was a member of Resurrection Parish; the Eagles Club; the John Deere Retirees; and the Local 94 Retirees.
Lee was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine E. "Kay" Pope; two daughters, Kathy L. Stevens, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Leiane M. Pope, of Dubuque; three sons, Donald L. (Sue) Pope and Richard A. (Kirstin) Pope, both of Dubuque, and Jeffery C. (Rhonda) Pope, of Bernard, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Violet (Robert) Mehl, of Lake Isabella, Calif., and Darlene Schuster and Carol Johnson, both of Asbury, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Biggs.

Ruth K. Kirkpatrick
Ruth K. Kirkpatrick, 93, who resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Tom Conry, of Dyersville, Iowa, formerly of 2620 Fulton St., died at 3:16 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be a parish scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1909, in Clermont, Iowa, daughter of Timothy and Kathryn (Duggan) Foley.
Ruth was born and raised in Clermont, Iowa and has resided in Dubuque most of her life. On July 30, 1930, she married Lloyd Kirkpatrick at St. Patrick's Church.
She was employed at Clarke College for more than 25 years and was a member of St. Patrick's Parish.
Surviving are her children: Marilyn Kirkpatrick of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Lee (Barbara) Kirkpatrick of Dubuque, Janet (Thomas) Conry of Dyersville, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Mark (Norma) Engling, Alan Engling, Beverly Pomponi, Kevin (Dayna) Conry, Kyle Conry, Kerri (Matt) Alleman, Kelli (Robb) Harter, Mary Jo (Gary) Anderson, Kathleen (Bruce) Neyens, Karen (John) Rogan and Michael (Carolyn) Kirkpatrick Also surviving are 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years on Nov. 1, 2000, Lloyd; her parents; two grandsons, Patrick Engling and James Kirkpatrick; three sisters, Irene Mock, Grace Murphy and Sister Timothy Foley; and an infant brother.
Memorials may be given to the Sisters of the Visitation, 2950 Kaufmann Ave., Dubuque, Iowa 52001.
