Leroy A. Scheckel

SPRINGBROOK, Iowa - Leroy A. Scheckel, 91, of Springbrook, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 5, 2002, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook. Burial will be in the church Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Reveille Post 273 of Bellevue. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. Scheckel worked as a machinist at Clinton Engines Co., Maquoketa, retiring in 1974.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1911, in Springbrook, son of Matthew and Catherine (Monner) Scheckel. He married Armella Homan on April 11, 1950, in Springbrook.

He was a World War II veteran. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the American Legion Reveille Post 273 of Bellevue.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Cubs, going hunting and fishing.

Surviving are a son, Dale (Mary Pat) Scheckel, of Urbandale; a stepdaughter, Darla Homan, of Springbrook; two granddaughters, Nicole and Erica Scheckel, of Iowa City; a sister, Daisey Clasen, of La Motte; and a brother, Florian Scheckel, of Springbrook.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Armella, on Nov. 16, 1973; six brothers; and seven sisters.

Frances E. Crippes

Frances E. Crippes, 92, of 1226 Lincoln Ave., died Thursday evening, Dec. 5, 2002, at Mercy Medical CenterDubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where arrangements are pending.

Lois Gilbertson

FENNIMORE, Wis. - Lois Gilbertson, 79, of Fennimore, died Monday morning, Dec. 2, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center, Fennimore.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Larson Family Funeral Home, Fennimore, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date in Prairie Cemetery , Fennimore.

Alvina D. Cloos

BELLEVUE, Iowa - Alvina D. Cloos, 90, of Heartland Health Care Center, Platteville, Wis., formerly of, Bellevue, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the care center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, where friends may call after noon Wednesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1911, in Bellevue, daughter of John P. and Anna (Entringer) Michels. She married John A. Cloos on Nov. 19, 1929, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

She was a full-time wife and homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family.

Surviving are three daughters, Rose Marie Smith, of Platteville, Joanne Brace, of Antioch, Calif., and Shirley (Leslie) Full, of Cleghorn, Iowa; a son, Clifford (Patricia) Cloos, of Northfield, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and a sister, Florence Helmle, of Spragueville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Cloos; six sisters, Sue Schenk, Mary Medinger, Dora Yeager, Frances Feller, Rosella "Sally" White, and Clara Feller; and six brothers, John Michels Jr., Mike Michels, Peter Michels, Joseph Michels, Anthony Michels and Albert Michels.

An Alvina D. Cloos Memorial Fund has been established.

Kathryn M. Hunt

LIVINGSTON, Wis. - Kathryn Mary (Gundlach) Hunt, 87, of Livingston, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, 2002, at Grant Regional Hospital, Lancaster.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Livingston United Methodist Church, with the Pastor John Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Rock Church Cemetery , rural Livingston. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Soman-Larson Funeral Home, Montfort, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

She was born on March 21, 1915, in Clifton Township, Grant County, daughter of Phillip and Marietta (Millard) Gundlach. She married James W. Hunt on Dec. 26, 1936, in Galena, Ill.

Surviving are a daughter, Janis Lee Mellor, of Livingston; four grandchildren,Patricia (Alan) Rowley, of Apple Valley, Calif., Michael (Amy) Mellor, of Dodgeville, Elizabeth Schultz-Davis, of Livingston, and Craig (Barb) Mellor, of Mineral Point; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Gundlach, of Fennimore, and Lela Hunt, of Dodgeville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James, in 1993; a son-in-law, Donald "D.J." Mellor, in 1998; sisters, Wilma Kemper, Iris Biddick, Anita Knutson and infant sister, Ona Gundlach; and brothers, Chester, Stanley and Millard Gundlach.

Esther C. Millard

FARLEY, Iowa - Esther C. Millard, 85, of 309 Fourth St. S.W., Farley, formerly of Peosta, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center- Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , Manchester. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m.

She was born on May 23, 1917, in New Hampton, daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Hennen) Engelken. She married Gerald Millard on Oct. 10, 1939, at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Bankston. The couple farmed in the rural Peosta area.

She received her education in the former Hickory Valley country schools and St. Clement's School, Bankston.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Farley, and its Rosary Society. She was a former member of Holy Family Parish, New Melleray, rural Peosta.

Surviving are her husband, Gerald Millard, of Farley; and a brother, Virgil (Margie) Engelken, of Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Francis Engelken, on Feb. 6, 2000; and a niece, Shirley Engelken.

An Esther C. Millard Memorial Fund has been established.

Wayne E. Coleman II

Wayne E. Coleman II, 23, of 1975 Shiras Ave., formerly of Houston, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

There will be no services. Burial will be at a later date. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1979, in Houston, son of Wayne E. and Elma (Harrison) Coleman Jr.

He worked in construction doing roofing and siding.

Surviving are his mother, Elma Coleman, of Dubuque; his father, Wayne Coleman Jr., of Houston; a brother, Walter Johnson, of Oxford, Wis.; and a sister, Ellen Dilley, of Dubuque.

Carl W. Schmidt Jr.

Mr. Carl W. Schmidt Jr., 82, of 3491 Waller St., died at 2:35 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mueller Memorial Chapel at Linwood Cemetery , where friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Arrangements are pending at the Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road.

Richard W. Flenker

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Richard W. "Dick" Flenker, 56, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Maquoketa, died Saturday morning, Nov. 30, 2002, at home.

Memorial services and burial will be held at a later date. There is no visitation.

The Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley M. Smith

SABULA, Iowa - Stanley Merle Smith, 66, of Sabula, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Clinton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sabula, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula.

Raymond P. Schulte

MANCHESTER, Iowa - Raymond P. Schulte, 80, of Manchester, formerly of Bellevue, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at home, after an extended illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester. Burial will be in the church Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 45 of Manchester. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, where there will be a scripture service at 4 p.m. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ruth; three sons, David (Sue) Schulte, Douglas (Delana) Schulte and Daniel (Ann) Schulte, all of Manchester; two daughters, Debra (David) Wendt, of Delhi, and Darla (Bill) Rave, of Manchester; 10 grandsons; eight granddaughters; two step grandsons; three great-grandsons; two brothers, Marvin (Lois) Schulte, of Edgewood, and Edward (MaryAnn) Schulte, of Manchester; and a sister, Rosemary (Leo) Green, of Cascade.

A Raymond P. Schulte Memorial Fund has been established.

Sandra C. Brandemuehl

LANCASTER, Wis. - Sandra C. Brandemuehl, 56, of Lancaster, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. Tom Callahan officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Martin Page Funeral Home, Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brandemuehl worked for many years at Lands' End and Orchard Manor Nursing Home.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, daughter of Hershel and Ada Marie (Ellis) Jackson. She married John Brandemuehl on Oct. 30, 1964, in Kingsville, Texas.

She was an adult leader in 4-H for many years and was very active in Wisconsin High School Rodeo. She was a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society and served as honorary chairperson for the 2001 Lancaster Relay for Life. She dearly loved the time she spent with family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, John Brandemuehl, of Lancaster; four children, Sue (Bryan) Minton and Debbie (Kep) Webb, both of Houston, Cindy Brandemuehl, of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Tim (Kara) Brandemuehl, of Lancaster; two grandsons, Bo and Dylan, both of Lancaster; a sister, Patricia Goins, of Kingsville, Texas; and three brothers, Jack (Janice) Jackson and James (Susan) Jackson, both of Katy, Texas, and Charles (Lo) Jackson, of Atlanta.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of plants and flowers, a Sandra C. Brandemuehl Memorial Fund has been established.

Giesla Orehowsky

HANOVER, Ill. - Giesla Orehowsky, 77, of Saucier, Miss., formerly of Hanover and Etligen, West Germany, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in Gulfport, Miss.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery , Hanover. There will be no visitation.

The Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, is in charge of local arrangements.
