November 16, 1927 ~ December 13, 2006

According to her wishes the body of Mrs. Perkins has been cremated.
A memorial has been established.

Evelyn Perkins, 79, of Burlington, died on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, in her home.

Born November 16, 1927, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of John and Ann Klesner Votzmeyer. She married Wendell A. Perkins in 1946 in Burlington. He died November 29, 1993.

Mrs. Perkins was co-owner of River Hills Realty in Fort Madison and a past president of the Fort Madison Board of Realtors. Prior to her real estate career, she held administrative positions at a number of local businesses.

She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church in Burlington. She loved watching classic movies, spending time with her life-long friends and family, crocheting and playing cards.

Survivors include her sons, John (Barbara) Perkins of Edina, Minnesota, and Brian (Becky) Perkins of Farmington, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Krystal Rose Perkins-Willhite of Savage, Minnesota, and Bariana Rose Perkins of Farmington, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, Larry Perkins.

Virginia Harriet Peterson
January 20, 1915 - November 24, 2006

Virginia Harriet Peterson, 91, of Burlington died at 1:15 PM Friday, November 24, 2006 at Burlington Care Center.

Born January 20, 1915 near Sawyer, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles and Fay Benbow Woodroffe.

On October 16, 1941 she married Edward Peterson in Hannibal, Missouri. He died December 21, 1985.

Mrs. Peterson graduated from Denmark Academy High School in Denmark, Iowa in 1933 and attended the College of Commerce in Burlington, Iowa.

She was the order and billing clerk at Northwestern Cabinet Company in Burlington, Iowa for several years and a homemaker.

Mrs. Peterson was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, ironing and baking cookies.

Her husband, parents, one brother, and one sister preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Peterson of Burlington, Iowa, a niece and nephew and grand nieces and nephews.

Mildred Lorena Pietzsch
April 1, 1913 - December 28, 2005

-Visitation: Monday, January 2, 2006 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Lunning Chapel
- Family will receive Friends: 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM Tuesday in Messiah Lutheran Church
-Funeral Service: Tuesday, January 3, 2006 1:30 PM in Messiah Lutheran Church
-Interment: Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery

Mildred Lorena Pietzsch, 92, of Burlington, died at 1:22 p.m. at Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center Wednesday, December 28, 2005.

Born April 1, 1913 in rural Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Paul and Amanda Johnson Peterson. On September 15, 1938 she married Warren Pietzsch in Mediapolis. He died on March 19, 2003.

Mrs Pietzsch taught school at Hawkeye rural schools and also was a teacher’s aide at Salter School in Burlington for 10 years. She operated a catering business out of her home for over 50 years.

She was a 1930 graduate of Mediapolis High School. She was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Messiah Church Women. Mrs. Pietzsch was well know for her cooking which she enjoyed very much. Her family was very important to her.

Survivors include one son, Paul Pietzsch of Urbandale, IA.; two daughters, Elaine Ryerson of Hampton, Ill., and Donna (Dave) Kime of Granby, Col.; ten grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Russell.

Memorials have been established for Great River Medical Center’s Klein Center and Messiah Lutheran Church.

Ruby Maurice Poffinbarger
February 21, 1918 - February 8, 2007

-Graveside Funeral Service: Monday, February 12th, at 10:00 AM in Aspen Grove
Cemetery.
Pastor Don Hornstra will officiate.
There is no formal visitation.
A memorial has been established to the National Humane Society.

Ruby Maurice Poffinbarger, age 88, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Burlington, died on Thursday, February 8, 2007 in the New Haven Care Center in New Haven, MO.

She was born on February 21, 1918, the daughter of Floris and Isabel Seck Bonar. She married Leonard Poffinbarger in Burlington, he preceded her in death in 1964.

Mrs. Poffinbarger was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son John Poffinbarger and his wife Sharon of Union, MO.; a sister Eleanor Dramstad of Oelwein, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, brother Paul Bonar, and special friend Harry Pohrer preceded her in death.

Glen J. Porter

Glen J. Porter, age 84, of Burlington, died at 4:28 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.

Born December 1, 1921 in Talmage, Nebraska, he was the son of James E. Porter and Cora Reed Porter.

He was a Navy veteran; assigned to one of the first LST’s to go to sea. He was in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Omaha Beach.

On January 16, 1946 he married Delores Dermann in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The Porter’s moved to Burlington in 1947 where Glen was employed by Hotel Burlington as assistant manager and catering manager. In 1953, he joined Klein Manufacturing Company as a salesman and was later appointed vice president and sales manager. In the late 1940’s he served as Vice President of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of Carthage Lake Club. He was a member of the Burlington Golf Club, the Moose Lodge, DAV, and the Kiwanis Club, where he served as President from 1970-1971. He was a member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ. Glen’s hobbies included golf and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Delores “Dee” Porter; three daughters, Susan (William) Bauer of Burlington, Karen (Dennis) Fenton of Cedar Rapids, and Debra (Steve) Cain of O’Fallon, Illinois; a son Scott (Jeri) Porter of Waukee, Iowa; a brother Jim (Elberta) Porter of Omaha, Nebraska; and a brother-in-law Ken (Shirley) Dermann of Lincoln, Nebraska; nine grandchildren also survive as well as nieces and nephews.

His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.

Memorials have been established for First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ or Burlington Kiwanis Club.

John Edward Potsick
December 23, 1929 - May 26, 2006

John Edward Potsick, 76, of rural Carman, Illinois died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois.

Born December 23, 1929 in St Louis, Missouri, he was the son of John and Nellie Peterson Potsick. On February 5, 1955 he married Joan C. Gesling in Burlington, Iowa.

Mr. Potsick was a 10-year veteran of the Navy and served during the Korean War.

He was a machine operator at J. I. Case for 20 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed watching birds, especially Bluebirds, working in the yard and drag racing in his earlier years.

Survivors include his wife Joan Potsick of rural Carman, Illinois; two daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Gearhart of Raritan, Illinois and Pam (Ralph) Martin of Carman, Illinois; four grandchildren, Amy and Andrew, and Tiffany and Chad; one great grandson, Alex and one step great granddaughter DeAnna.

His parents preceded him in death.

A memorial to the Henderson County Health Department for Home Health Care has been established.

March 4, 1925 - June 9, 2007

Phoebe Potter, 82, of Burlington, Iowa went to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family, Saturday, June 9, 2007, at her home.

Born March 4, 1925 in Doland, South Dakota, she was the daughter of John K. and Anne Hofer Decker. On September 12, 1943 she married Howard Potter in Huron, South Dakota. He died May 7, 2002.

Mrs. Potter was a graduate of Wessington Springs Academy in South Dakota and she also attended college for one year. She was a member of the Heritage Free Methodist Church and was an avid reader. She spent many years as a homemaker. She was very active in her church. She has served as church custodian, Sunday School teacher, missions promoter, Vacation Bible School superintendent, Director of Christian Life Club and Pastor and Mrs. Ryan’s prayer partner.

Survivors include five daughters, Marlis J. (Larry) Gilman of Inglewood, California, Sharon R. (Kem) Banks of Glenwood, Iowa, Geaneen M. (George) Helms of Decatur, Illinois, Harriett A. Clawson of Middletown, Iowa and Joni (Jay) Clover of Middletown, Iowa; one son, David A. (Jennifer) Potter of Santa Clarita, California; two sisters, Beulah J. Decker, and Stella M. (Harvey) Floe, both of Huron, South Dakota; one brother, Harold L. (Thelma) Decker of Huron, South Dakota; 14 grandchildren, Timothy and Brian Gilman, Jeffrey and Jeremy Smith, Sharri Dailey and George F. and Harrison Helms, Eugene and Annette Clawson, Erin Haut and Kendra and Joel Clover, Samuel and Evelyn Potter; 13 great grandchildren, Nolan and Shannon Gilman, Cassandra and Aidan and Trinity Smith, Corbin and Avery Smith, Phoebe Kae and Harland Helms and Willie John, Isabel and Abigail and Caleb Haut.

Her parents, husband and one son Harland D. Potter preceded her in death.
