Robert S. Baker

MINERAL POINT, Wis. - Robert S. Baker, 80, of Mineral Point, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, after a short illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Mineral Point, with the Rev. Barbara Cook officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery , where military rites will be accorded by the Mineral Point Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gorgen Funeral Home, Mineral Point, and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Baker retired from the United States Postal Service in 1980, after 32 years of service.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1922, son of Laura Baker.

He met his wife, Wilma, at the former Platteville State Teachers College in 1939. In 1941, he enlisted in the Air Force at Phoenix, Ariz. Bob and Wilma were married Nov. 20, 1943, at First United Methodist Church. He was discharged from active duty in 1946, and then recalled in 1947, for the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1951, and resided in Mineral Point.

He was a member of the Mineral Point VFW, American Legion, the 40 & 8, and the Cooties. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He leaves behind his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Sandra Baker; a son, Robert D. (Ruth) Baker; grandchildren, Catherine, James, Kyle, Shawn and Derek; sisters, Norma (Clinton) Orton, Marilyn (Stanley) Davis and Joanne (Richard) Rice; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura; a very special aunt, Maude; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Methodist Church Kitchen Fund.

Wanetta Miller

BELLEVUE, Iowa - Wanetta Miller, 76, of Bellevue, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue.

Arrangements are pending at Kingery Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Mary E. Shetler

Mary E. Shetler, 90, of Stonehill Care Center, formerly of 579 Quigley Lane, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at the care center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where arrangements are pending.

Margaret E. Graf

Margaret E. Graf, 94, of 15237 Humke Road, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Heritage Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Graf worked on the family farm her entire life and at the Julien Care Facility as a nurse's aide, until her retirement at age 80.

She was born on March 3, 1908, in Dubuque, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Fischer) Bartles. She married John H. Graf on Aug. 26, 1930, in Dubuque; he died on Aug. 15, 1942.

She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, bird watching and her dog, Josie. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, The Dubuque Co. Farm Bureau, Emerald Club and the former German Club.

Surviving are a son, James (Doris) Graf, of Dubuque; a daughter, Jeanette (Charles) Ruhl, of Bettendorf; a sister, Mildred Russell, of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Jackie, Christine, Linda, Alan, Michael and Susan; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Manor and Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care.

Roger W. Leibfried

Roger W. Leibfried, 75, of Dubuque Nursing and Rehab Center, 2935 Kaufmann Ave., formerly of 1150 Badger Road, rural Hazel Green, Wis., and Rickardsville, Iowa, died at 3:07 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at the care center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque. Burial will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1927, in Dubuque, son of George and Stella (Hufnagel) Leibfried.

He married Helen B. Jaeger on Sept. 13, 1944, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Balltown, Iowa; she passed away on May 12, 1996. They formerly owned and operated the Avalon Supper Club, Rickardsville, Iowa, for 24 years, and later owned and operated Rog's Supper Club on U.S. 151, in rural Hazel Green, for three years.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He had an avid love for driving trucks and traveling with his wife prior to her death.

Surviving are a son, David (Carol) Leibfried, of Lodi, Wis.; four daughters, Bev (Jim) Neumann, Karen (Frank) Feller, Donna (Steve) Bertsch and Lori McKeon, all of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Kim (Randy) Landphier, Becky Leibfried, Kevin (Kelly) Neumann, Jeff (Kelley) Neumann, Nikki (Jeff) Golden, Nick, Chris and Samantha Feller, and Jessi and Megan McKeon; three great-grandchildren, Alec, Madison and Mason Neumann; two brothers, Vic (Myrtle) Leibfried, of Rickardsville, Iowa, and Daniel (Mickie) Leibfried, of Dubuque; three sisters, Betty (Syd) Miller, of Dubuque, Joan (Bob) Valentine, of Tucson, Ariz., and Carol (Duane) Ritt, of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law, Viola Avery, of Dubuque.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Paul, Howard, George Jr. and Tom Leibfried; and a sister-in-law, Mae Rita Leibfried.

A Roger W. Leibfried Memorial Fund has been established by his family.

Glen J. Frey

Glen J. "Butch" Frey, 55, of 920 Garfield Ave., went home to his Heavenly Father at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at home, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Third Presbyterian Church, with burial in Rockdale Cemetery , both in Dubuque. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

Mr. Frey worked at the former Dubuque Packing Co., and later drove trucks for various companies in Dubuque, including Dubuque Disposal Service and RTA.

He was born on May 29, 1947, son of Glen C. and Florence (White) Frey.

He was a longtime CB radio man and a member of the CB Radio Club, where he was known as "Varmint." He enjoyed motorcycles all his life. He could fix "anything with a motor" or electronics. He especially enjoyed taking road trips in his truck. In his later years, his interest turned to computers.

He will be deeply missed by his family and his cat, Charlie.

Surviving are his special friend and companion, Becky Frederick, of Dubuque; two daughters, Glenda Frey, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dawn (Dan) Galle, of Dubuque; four sons, Kevin Frey, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Glen J. Frey III, John Frey and Michael Reitter, all of Dubuque; nine grandchildren; his mother, Florence F. Frey, of Hazel Green, Wis.; a sister, Judy Steffen, of Madison, Wis.; a nephew; and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen C. Frey; and a sister, Dianne K. Frey, in infancy.

A Glen J. "Butch" Frey Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Liaboe and the nurses and staff of The Finley Hospital for their care and concern for Glen.

Inelda M. Hessel

Inelda M. Hessel, 79, of 17349 Peru Road, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at home.

Arrangements are pending at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.

Joseph R. Hudspeth

Joseph R. "Joey" Hudspeth, 31, of 1735 Madison St., formerly of East Dubuque, Ill., died at 10:43 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Dubuque, with burial in East Dubuque Cemetery . Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where there will be a parish scripture service at 1 p.m.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1970, in Dubuque, son of Joseph W. and Sonya (Kissling) Hudspeth.

Joey was born and raised in East Dubuque and attended St. Mary's Grade School. He was a 1989 graduate of Wahlert High School. He attended Loras College, Dubuque, and Western Illinois University, Macomb.

Joey loved and cared for his family more than anyone could. He loved hunting, fishing and music. He was the owner of Precision Entertainment and also worked at Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co.

The most important aspect of his life was spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his father, Joseph W. (Vicki) Hudspeth, of East Dubuque; his mother, Sonya J. Hudspeth, of Dubuque; a brother, Brian J. (Bobbi Jo) Hudspeth, of East Dubuque; two sisters, Patti (Brad) Burgmeier, of East Dubuque, and Robin Hudspeth (and partner, Dreama Perry), of San Antonio, Texas; nieces and nephews, Gus, Peter, Hanna and Bo Burgmeier, Tanner and Brooksey Hudspeth; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Frances Kissling, of Dubuque; two stepbrothers, Justin and Jordan Reynolds; uncles and aunts, Jacque (Chuck) Rutledge, Peg (Tom) Meyers, Sandy (Mike) Ernsdorff, Sue (Marv) Bennett, Virginia (John) Hudspeth, Rena Sage and Bobbi (Rip) Hoops; and many loving cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Russell G. Kissling; and his paternal grandmother, Brooksey Brady.

In lieu of flowers, a Joseph R. "Joey" Hudspeth Memorial Fund has been established.

Daniel L. Pilcher

BELLEVUE, Iowa - Daniel L. Pilcher, 59, of 6932 U.S. 52, Lot 49, Bellevue, died at 1:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at home.

There will be no services or visitation. Arrangements are pending at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.

Retha M. Belken

MONTFORT, Wis. - Retha M. (Kaufman) Belken, 80, of Montfort, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Upland Hills Health, Dodgeville.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Montfort (Wis.) United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rock Church Cemetery , rural Livingston.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Soman-Larson Funeral Home, Montfort.

Francis M. Hellert

Francis M. "Bud" Hellert, 84, of 1920 Alta Vista St., died at 3:25 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the home of his daughter, Edith M. (Charles) Sturdevant, 17657 Middle Road, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where arrangements are pending.

Raymond W. Borcherding

GUTTENBERG, Iowa - Raymond William Borcherding, 89, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Guttenberg (Iowa) Care Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Richard Von Steinman officiating. Burial will be in the Guttenberg (Iowa) City Cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Guttenberg.

He was the son of Henry and Louise (Kuecker) Borcherding. He married Lora Kregel on Dec. 14, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Smith and Betty (Jackie) Geuder, both of Guttenberg; a son, Harlen (Brenda Hilbert) Borcherding, of DeWitt; seven grandchildren, Deb Bolsinger, Peggy (Mike) Wolf, Roger Smith, Randy (Rachel) Smith, Jeff Geuder, Janet (Jeff) Lovett and Brian Geuder; and eight great-grandchildren, Scott Smith, Heather and Clay Bolsinger, Tim Smith, Bill and Tony Klein, and Leah and Nathan Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lora; a brother, Edward; and two sisters, Hilda Brase and Odilia Hartman.
