John J. Heisler

FARLEY, Iowa - John J. Heisler, 81, of 14194 Heisler Road, Farley, died at 8:34 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Bankston, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m., the Farley American Legion will meet in a body at 6:30 p.m., and the Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m.

Mr. Heisler was employed at Flexsteel Industries Inc., Dubuque, until his retirement in 1980.

He was born on March 5, 1921, in Bankston, son of Gus and Charlotte (Joynt) Heisler. He married Margaret Schmitt on Oct. 19, 1943, at St. Clement's Catholic Church.

He received his education in the former St. Clement's School. He farmed in the Farley and Bankston areas until 1968. He was a member of St. Clement's Parish, and its holy name society. He also was a member of the Farley Knights of Columbus Council 2001.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Heisler, of Farley; a daughter, Virginia (Richard) Barton, of Zwingle; three sons, Robert (Ann) Heisler, of Dyersville, and George (Bonnie) Heisler and Ambrose (Debbie) Heisler, both of Farley; nine grandchildren, Robert and Chris Barton, Kevin, Dave and Katie Heisler, Jason and Benji Heisler and Jessica and Adam Rhodes; a sister, Dorothy (Art) Phillips, of New Vienna; and a sister-in-law, Ann Phillips, of Bankston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Beth Heisler, on Sept. 4, 1959; a son, Eugene S. (Brother Peregrine) Heisler, on Sept. 26, 1963; and two sisters, Collette Giunta and Frances Phillips.

A John J. Heisler Memorial Fund has been established.

Rose Maloney

Mrs. Eugene (Rose "Annie") Maloney, 77, of 2710 Ken Court, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Luther Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1925, in New Vienna, Iowa, daughter of John B. and Clara Rose (Willenborg) Rahe. She married Eugene M. Maloney on Aug. 1, 1946, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She graduated from the former St. Joseph Academy, Dubuque, class of 1943. She was the first paid employee for William C. Brown Co. Her given name was Rose, but she looked so much like Little Orphan Annie as a child that she was given the nickname of "Annie."

She was known for her beautiful smile and friendliness during her husband's military travels. She was a strong bowler, good bridge player, and willing softball player.

She made a good home and raised a fine family in San Antonio, Omaha, London, Minneapolis, Panama, Marietta, Oklahoma City, Mount Clemens, Fort Ritchie, Germany and Phoenix. In retirement she kept up correspondence with 72 friends spread around the globe. They called her MAM.

She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish, the Non-Commissioned Officers and Officers Clubs at various locations.

Surviving are her husband, Eugene; a son, Michael D. (Susan) Maloney, of Dubuque; a daughter, Patricia A. (Mark) Fitch, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Patrick, Joseph, Pamela, Kathryn, Sarah, Mary and B.J. Maloney; great-grandchildren, Jarid, Kalyn and Molly Maloney; and a sister, Sister Louise Rahe, FSPA, of La Crosse, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers and sisters, Evelyn Close, Frank Rahe, Arnold (Bud) Rahe and Alice Noel.

A Rose "Annie" Maloney Memorial Fund has been established.

The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff and volunteers of Hospice of Dubuque for their loving care.

James O. Anderson

CLERMONT, Iowa - James O. Anderson, 81, of Clermont, died Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2002, at Good Samaritan Cen-ter, Postville, after a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Clermont Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Gods Acre, Clermont.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schutte's Clermont Funeral Chapel.

Julia P. Foltz

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Julia P. Foltz, 80, of Iowa City, formerly of Maquoketa, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Care Center.

Arrangements are pending at the Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa.

Paul F. Schwenker

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Paul F. "Jack" Schwenker, 84, of Maquoketa, died Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2002, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Ill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery , Maquoketa.

Maude E. Wilkenson

CUBA CITY, Wis. - Maude E. Wilkenson, 69, of Madison, formerly of Cuba City, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, Madison.

Arrangements are pending at Haudenshield Funeral Home, Cuba City.

Mildred I. Schuh

GALENA, Ill. - Mildred I. Schuh, 85, of 5601 Orangethorpe Ave., Anaheim, Calif., formerly of Galena, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at U.S.C. County Hospital, Los Angeles.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kitchen, Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, 235 S. Bench St., Galena, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Schuh was employed for 30 years as a teacher for the Dubuque Community School District prior to retiring.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1917, in Rodden, Ill., daughter of John A. and Mildred (Stumpf) Rodden. She married Robert V. Schuh; he died in October 1974.

She graduated from the former Elizabeth (Ill.) High School and then from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She was a member of the Galena United Methodist Church, the Masonic Temple, Galena, and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 740.

Surviving are a son, John (Sharon) Schuh, of Anaheim; two grandchildren, John (Geraldine) Schuh Jr. and Heidi (James) Dwyer; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Rodden, of Galena.

Memorials may be given to Galena-Stauss Hospital.

Burdell J. Boyd

LANCASTER, Wis. - Burdell J. Boyd, 58, of Belvidere, Ill., formerly of Lancaster, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Glenn Wilson officiating. Burial will in Hillside Cemetery , Lancaster, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Burdell was as an assembly line worker for Daimler-Chrysler for 30 years, retiring in 1997.

He was born on Aug. 27, 1944, in Lancaster, son of Theresa H. Boyd. He married Diane Cooley on Feb. 8, 1969, in Lancaster.

He graduated from Lancaster High School and attended automotive school. Burdell moved to Belvidere in 1967. He served his country in the Army from 1967 to 1970, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the United Automobile Workers Local 1268. He was a devoted Packers fan and loved to fish and tinker around the house in his spare time.

Surviving are his wife, Diane Boyd, of Belvidere; a son, James Boyd (fiancee, Stephanie), of Rockford, Ill.; a daughter, Brenda (John) Trimble, of Caledonia, Ill.; two grandchildren, John Burdell and Stacy Trimble, both of Caledonia; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

David D. Steve

IOWA CITY, Iowa - David D. "Dave" Steve, 64, of 2 Woodland Drive NE, Iowa City, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Mercy Hospital, after compli-cations from pneumonia.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Rev. Rudy Berndt officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Calvary Cemetery , Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.

Mr. Steve has been the owner and operator of Steve's Typewriter and Office Furniture, Iowa City, since 1970.

He was born on Feb. 2, 1938, in Dubuque, son of Michael D. and Elsie (Burkhart) Steve. He married Kathleen Nolan on May 11, 1968.

He was born and raised in Dubuque. He attended typewriter school in Springfield, Mo. In 1958, he moved to Iowa City.

He was a proud, loyal Hawkeye fan and loved to attend as many events as he could with his family and friends. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a past member of Old Capitol Kiwanis.

Surviving are two children, Nicole (Monte) Schrock and Vern (Roxanne) Steve, both of Iowa City; his former wife, Kathleen Steve, of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Grace and Benjamen Steve and Ainsley Schrock; three brothers, Burt (Maxine) Steve, Morris (JoAnn) Steve and Russ Steve, all of Dubuque; and a sister, Dorothy (Raymond) Kass, of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois Felderman and Mary Thiesen; and two brothers, Al and Carl Steve.

Memorials may be given to Old Capitol Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 405, Iowa City, Iowa 52244.

Joseph T. Simonin

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Joseph T. Simonin, 67, of Maquoketa, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where there will be a vigil service at 4 p.m.

Agnes G. Takes

Agnes Gertrude Takes, 95, of Stonehill Care Center, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at the care center.

Arrangements are pending at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road.

Thomas P. Anderson

Thomas P. Anderson, 63, of 1371 Tomahawk Drive, died suddenly Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church. Friends may call from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where arrangements are pending.
